MUGGLE STUDIES PRACTICAL WHO: Everyone! WHERE: Muggle Studies classroom WHEN: Friday, September 6th, 1997 (different time slots for different years) WHAT: The first Muggle Studies practical
Alecto was in a very quiet mood when students filed into class today. She didn't look at students as they took their seats, but rather, stared out the window at the grounds and the lake -- her hands folded neatly in front of her. Immediately upon start of the class she spoke about destroying school property, and how utterly disappointed she was with the culprits, whomever they may be.
Students would notice mini-toaster ovens on desks, turned on through a Muggle generator left there from classes previous. People will be working in their groups. Each student is given two slices of bread. They're instructed to turn their ovens on and place a piece of bread in the toaster oven. She then instructs everyone to toast the second piece bread with magic.
Alecto instructed the class from the front of the room, encouraging them to go along with her speed:
"Look how simple that was. Look how much less TIME and ENERGY it took! How much longer do you have to wait for your toast in the toaster oven? Open it up and see if it's done. Oh, whoops! You got burned. How terrible. Ugh, it's not even done yet, it's only slightly browned. It looks like you may have to wait 3 more minutes."
"MEANWHILE, your charmed bread is getting cold. You might as well start buttering it. Here's some marmalade. Try it. Does it taste good? Mmmmmm delicious."
"Two minutes. Are you getting antsy yet? I know, this is simply taking forever and is SUCH an inconvenience. One minute. Ah, finally, the blasted toast is done. Now open the oven up. Careful, the entire thing is ATROCIOUSLY hot. No, you cannot use magic to lift the piece of bread out of it. You must do it with your fingers. Hot hot hot! Quick get a napkin! Ow ow ow! Okay, phew. Now, grab the butter and marmalade and take a bite."
Alecto would then go around with the two pieces of toast in her hand and a very large and encouraging smile (some would notice that a few of her teeth are, indeed, rotten), and asked each student:
