The second match of the year was greeted with a same, if not more, amount of buzz as did the previous match, since this match was between two different matches. Going into the match, Ravenclaw was the favourite to win it, considering they were runners up in the previous year. The weather was much chillier than it had been two weeks ago, and the constant thundering didn't help some of the jitters that both players and spectators had. The weather forecast had predicted rain but Professor Trelawney insisted that she Saw rain only for tomorrow -- the match would be safe. Like always, the match was scheduled to begin at 11AM, though spectators were allowed to assemble in the Quidditch stands earlier than that. Several students arrived as early as 10AM to secure good viewing spots, though other students shuffled in at the last minute. VOLUNTEER 1 thought this was an excellent opportunity to secretly sell some of the extra butterbeer, chocolate frogs, ice mice, licorice wands, etc. he/she had, though VOLUNTEER 2 thought this was blatantly annoying and had VOLUNTEER 1 reported. Nothing came from it, however, considering all of those snacks are perfectly safe and are not considered to be illegal items. Team Ravenclaw was the first to walk out onto to the Quidditch pitch, led by Captain Samson Capper and followed by the rest of the team. The Ravenclaw supporters cheered loudly, and the Hufflepuff supporters clapped along, as well. Team Hufflepuff walked out onto the pitch second, led by Captain Zacharias Smith and followed by the rest of the team, which caused the Hufflepuff supporters to cheer wildly while the Ravenclaw supporters clapped for them, as well. As usual, Madame Hooch made both of the captains shake the other's hands as she explained the rules: no foul play and only fair play. Once the captains agreed, and the teams settled on their broomsticks, Madame Hooch blew her whistle, indicating that the match had begun. Leading with an iron fist, Captain and Chaser Zacharias Smith wasted no time in scoring the first goal of the match, within minutes of starting the match, though Keeper Terry Boot did the best he could to save the goal. Not to be outdone, Chasers Stella Fawcett and Jeremiah Dorny worked together well to pass the quaffle back and forth as they headed towards the opposition's goal. Keeper Sally-Anne Perks was ready for it, though it proved how rusty she was when she couldn't stop the quaffle as it passed through the hoops, which was thrown very aggressively by Stella Fawcett. The beaters from both the teams were good at shuffling the bludgers around, though they were aiming for the opposition's chasers, though no one was really injured through this, as the beaters mostly focused on distracting the chasers, as opposed to doing any actual harm. The match continued on, with both teams making great goals for half an hour. Dexter Cadwallader scored four goals in that time frame, while Jeremiah Dorny scored five goals in that time. It just so happened that Professor Trelawney's prediction went wrong, when after one loud thunderous boom, it started pouring cats and dogs. The match wouldn't halt for rain, however, and play was still to continue. There was a bit of a vision problem for all the players, but still, they trekked on. In the middle of this pouring, Joey Cresswell sent a bludger at Chaser Miriam Sloper, hoping that it would cause her to be distracted enough to not score, but she hadn't seen the bludger coming, which ultimately caused her to crash into the nearby stand. Thankfully, she suffered no injuries, but it couldn't be said for the broomstick, which had promptly broken into two. Unfortunately, it meant that Miriam Sloper was out for the rest of the match, and Ravenclaw had to play with one chaser down for the remaining of the match. The rain didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon, but chasers from both teams tried their best to keep the scale from tipping in their direction, with first-time Chaser Kevin Whitby succeeding as a player to watch out for, with the three goals he scored. But Keeper Terry Boot was suffering from vision problems, since the rain would hit his spectacles hard, causing everything to become blurry. Beater Owen Cauldwell, in an attempt to help fellow Beater Joey Cresswell, accidentally sent a bludger towards the Ravenclaw stands, injuring ANTHONY GOLDSTEIN as he/she took the bludger on the arm, causing him/her to fall on OSWALD SELWYN. SUSAN BONES and JACK SLOPER helped Professor Flitwick take both of them to the hospital wing. Owen Cauldwell looked spectacularly horrified after the incident, and tried to stay quiet for the remainder of the match. Beater Morag MacDougal took the opportunity to play a ruthless match, sending every single bludger that came her way to the opposition's chasers, and had some luck when she hit Zacharias Smith's broom. It didn't cause much damage, but Zacharias Smith was displeased at being thrown off his game for a second. Despite being one chaser down, Jeremiah Dorny and Stella Fawcett worked well with each other, assisted by beaters Samson Capper and Morag MacDougal causing each of them to score three goals each, within twenty minutes. Not to be outdone, Dexter Cadwallader, Zacharias Smith and Kevin Whitby proved that they were just as capable of teamwork, causing them to score two goals each. At this point, the scores were 140 (Hufflepuff) and 120 (Ravenclaw). In quick succession, both Jeremiah Dorny and Stella Fawcett scored two more goals each, before Seekers Daniel Summerby and Ursula Flint were aware of the distinct buzz caused by the snitch. Though the rain made it difficult to spot the snitch, Ursula Flint took off towards the direction that she heard the buzz coming from, quickly followed by Daniel Summerby. Though both of them were nearly neck-and-neck in trying to catch the snitch, ultimately it was captured by Daniel Summerby, which caused Hufflepuff fans to cheer loudly. | ||
