Dear Theodore,
Happy birthday! This is a Tritten Windrose compass. If you have a place you need to get to, it will determine the most efficient route and guide you along. The makers include more precise instructions than I can offer, and the spellwork to activate it is straightforward. It’s not as complicated as it looks, but I would suggest using it locally a few times to get the idea of how it operates. They can be quite handy, and work marvelously. The Swiss can do no wrong when it comes to magical crafting.
It seems everyone will be due for a change of scenery at the end of the year, and a person misses too much relying on apparating and portkeys all the time. With any luck, you may find this of some use in the future. I didn’t consult any cards on that, though, so don’t quote me.
Cheers,
P.S. If you’d rather something more immediately practical, I recently received a very engaging book on runes. Since you seem to have developed an interest of late, I would be willing to trade you. But only because it’s your birthday.
