Happy Chanukah, love! As you see, there are latkes, but I would approach these with some caution- Dad and Rami made these. Work has been a madhouse- nearly all of our hours have been doubled, so I didn't have the time. It's just awful what happened, but I don't want to dwell on that now.
I'm exaggerating a bit about the quality of the latkes. They aren't that bad, really, though you know these aren't my favorite. There were a number of scorched casualties, but they eventually turned out some decent batches. I was amazed. They didn't attempt any bimuelos or anything like that (let's not get carried away), but I'll be baking this weekend, so you'll have a proper holiday care package coming your way. We wanted to make sure you had something for the first night though.
I wish that Chanukah wasn't so early this year and that you and Anthony were home. It makes everything feel all the more emptier, but we're making the most of it. I'm sure that's what bubbe, zayde, and Aunt Sasha want us to do. I hope you both do the same and spend some time together and with your friends. There's plenty of food to share.
I'm sorry to hear about your badge, but I think you did the right thing. It was wrong of them to ask you to make those sorts of speculations, and it was good of you to put your classmates first. That's what being a prefect should be about. I love you, Rachel, and Dad and I are both proud of the bravery you showed in that situation. I just wish you didn't have to make such grown-up situations. It's a disgrace how this school is being run. We certainly have a lot to talk about and things to consider when you come home for winter break.
Have a lovely Chanukah, sweetheart. We all love and miss you and can't wait to see you next month.
Love always,
Mum
Included is a package filled with latkes and a box of store-bought jelly doughnuts (probably with some sort of charm to keep them from going stale idk) and this cute menorah.
Dear Anthony,
Happy Chanukah! I know that this will be a difficult holiday, and I hope this care package helps if only a little bit. Uncle Ezzy and Rami even tried their hand at latkes, since I was busy at work. The kitchen was a disaster when I came home. They're nowhere near as good as your Mum's, but they certainly have much love and effort. I'll be sending more proper Chanukah desserts to you and Rachel this weekend.
I wish that you were both home, but I'm glad that you two are together still at Hogwarts. I'm glad for that in general, really.
Rachel told me about the prefect incident, and I think you did the right thing. It wasn't an easy decision, and I think you showed great maturity. It's unfair that you found yourself in such a difficult situation, but I'm so proud of how you stood up for what you felt was right.
We're all looking forward to seeing you next month. I hope you have a nice Chanukah.
Love,
Aunt Nehama
