Iluq felt as if her heart was going to explode in her chest when Koe screamed, it might have had he not stopped doing so as suddenly as he'd begun. She was staring at the space he was staring into only a moment after he'd screamed in the first place. There was nothing there. Her mind sought out all of the possibilities; had there been someone there a second ago, could someone have harmed Koe in a way that warped his mind, was it just a nightmare? There was no one there, and no sign that anyone had just been there. Why would he lie, or how could such a great dragon like Koe be fooled in any way? Certainly the drinks he'd had could not have gotten to him in such a way. She felt more sober than she had a moment ago, where a drowned mind had leaped to her most obvious fear. Fire taking them all whole. Now she was awake, and sober..
But now she had no idea what to make of this. Koe insisted someone was here and that someone was looking for them. One of her hands found his arm and her fingers tightened there for a moment. Her eyes were sharp, but she wished she could have looked at him and eased what he must have been feeling. Not now. They needed to be sharp and looking for an answer. She was peering down the hall and hoping that no one else was awake in the inn.. a sudden commotion in a town already wrecked by fire and.. whatever it was, would not be a good thing. She did not think any of them wished to deal with that sort of thing right now.
She had almost forgotten his daughter was there, as her fingers continued to hold onto Koe's arm. When she looked up at Onainat she too didn't know what to say. or was hesitating. perhaps still sleepy. Iluq's head felt full. She was trying to piece together something, but from all of their conversations on the road to here, Koe had never mentioned a trouble that as both a he and an it. He had told her about his search for the first song and she'd gleaned from how little he said of other things that something was troubling him. Something.. like this. Was this what was troubling him?
She felt naked without her bow even when she was capable of being deadly without one. That fierce idea that she needed to protect the man she loved consumed her, and yet she had no idea how to put him at ease. Her hand fell from his arm and instead she wrapped her arm around him from behind and secured her fingers at his waist.
"Koe. Who is here? What is here? I didn't.. I believe you. But I didn't see anyone..."
