The forest around them was alive with noise now, apparently the men in the camp had begun some form of game between themselves. She wasn't sure if she ever wanted to go back. Not with Koe here. Even if he professed he was staying. Part of her still wanted to ask him to go away with her. Unfair it might have been, but it seemed like a better idea now. To leave camp forever. To shed the rank of Captain which meant so little to her. Ithunvel had been a good man, but he was dead now. Ithacles paled in comparison, and yet was better in other ways.
Vedette watched him smiling at her, and returned it after a moment.
"I don't think he'd even try to challenge you, but if he did forgive me if I start to laugh." She ran her fingers back into his hair for a moment. What was she looking for? What was she doing here, of all places. With another dragon around her job seemed so foolish.
"I was wondering." Her smile didn't leave her face, but grew a little. "How is it that you know Master Ilyien?"
The question she wanted to ask was what she meant to him, but it was another unfair question. Before the breaking she might have asked him outright, but living among humans and holding her tongue so often had trained her not to say the first thing that came to mind.
