Vedette watched him, his reply so delayed it could not have just been the food. Even if said food sounded terrible, it could not have. Her eyes seemed far off, did he not trust her with whatever it was that was bothering him. Or was.. what was bothering him what was bothering her? She didn't feel like talking about Ithacles. And she didn't much like the fact that Koe kept referring to him as her Prince. Vedette turned her head back to look at the stars and not at his face. She did not want Koe thinking that Ithacles meant so much to her.
She did not like the panicked beating it caused in her heart. But why? Koe was as wild as she was, as wandering. When she had wandered, back then. If they found each other on the road somewhere they did not linger for months or even weeks. Maybe days. Maybe one adventure. But never a lifetime. Not as her parents had, not as their parents had. If she loved Koe, which she thought she did, why hadn't she forced herself to walk at his side instead of heading back to whatever life she was currently leading before she'd run into him.
Would now be the same.
"His name is Ithacles, you could call him that rather than my prince. That's one of the things that bothers me so. His Reavers tease endlessly about us, when there is no us. I could never enter into a relationship with him because he is a Prince, and I am a servant to the King. I couldn't because he's cruel to me, because he's not a very kind fellow unless you're good old friends. His jokes sting. But that is only a few reasons. And really. I've stayed much too long there. Too long. I should have left ages ago." Vedette took only one breath before she continued on.
"Now, I've told you what I've been doing. What have you been doing Koe, and what, besides the raccoon, is troubling you. If you think I don't know your acting when I see it then you've forgotten that I've seen you acting, and seen you professing truth." She smiled, briefly, at the thought of him expressing something. Close to her, hardly breaths away from one another, and yet.
Yet... had it been too long. Were his tricks different now, his acting different? Was he different, was she? Her fingers slid between his fingers on his chest and she held his hand. She wanted to know, she wanted to believe that it was just like their past was. A few years, a few decades between meant nothing to them. They were right back where they'd left off. Right? Was she still so young as to think that, would he think she was too young to know? She had been alone, she had not known another Dragon was alive. She had been.. had she just gone to Faustben because she was afraid? Now was she thinking of leaving because she knew her fear was.. was foolish?
