As Leir pounded the door down, Aeotha was forced to cover her ears with her hands because of the sound. it was loud and close and it hurt to hear it. Aeotha knew what was going on. She could almost hear the light of the claw shield coming to life under Leir's anger. Aeotha wished it were an easy thing to sooth him, but he needed that anger. No lion could be petted and made to purr like a kitten. No. They raged and tasted the blood of their enemies.
Soon he would too.
Aeotha felt very choked behind the bars of the cell. Skandra's words were not meant for her but they didn't keep her from taking them and bending them in all the wrong sorts of ways. Aeotha was sick to death of all of this. She wanted it done. She wanted this to be finished. They'd lived their lives with this hanging behind them like shadows. Her father and brother, her best friend. His widowed wife was still alive, but Aeotha found no comfort in the thought. Aeotha watched them outside the cell. She could have been crueler.
Ralus would have died no matter if they were there or not. The Silver Dragons were not their doing. And if it hadn't been for them, Ralus might not have lived the last few weeks. It was Eiron's fault Ralus was dead now. It could have been Skandra's back in Ashara. That's what you got for killing your wife. Aeotha still couldn't believe it. Her eyes narrowed as Skandra called Leironuoth a monster. Aeotha rattled the cage again.
"Don't listen to him, you're not a monster. Eiron's the monster that robbed us both of our fathers long before their time." Aeotha could no longer hold her own emotions in check. She rattled the door again. Aeotha did not have the strength to just break the door down like Leir did. She could hear the keys still rattling.
