"Good morning, Miss Banafrit. We want to thank you for meeting us so early in the morning."
"Thank you, Professor Daly, it was not an issue. Although, it's Mrs."
"Excuse me?"
Psyche smiled, a sweet simple smile, "It's Mrs. Banafrit," she corrected him.
Several members of the council looked at each other in surprise, she looked so young to be married. But then they noticed the very obvious wedding ring that sat on her finger and embarrassed looks covered their faces. "Oh, of course. I'm very sorry."
"It's alright, it happens all the time." She repeated her smile, just to ease their minds. It really did happen all the time. If they questioned her age, she simply told them she'd married her high school sweetheart. Which was, for the most part, true.
Professor Daly coughed to move along, "We invited you here this morning because there has been an opening in Washington D.C. for a paid internship at the FBI. This is a highly prestigious internship that would look excellent on any resume. Every school submits one post-graduate student candidate for consideration and one is chosen. You were our candidate and I'm pleased to tell you that you were chosen as their first choice."
Nodding, Psyche listened and her eyes widened at the news. "Oh, wow. That's wonderful news! Thank you so much!"
"Now, of course, this would mean that you would have to move to Washington D.C. and this would be a strenuous internship that would most likely leave you with little time to do anything else besides work on your thesis paper, which an extension would not be granted for. But we, here at Columbia, think that you are capable to not only excel in this position but also be an excellent representation of our school."
The entire board had their eyes on her as the Professor stopped talking, each eye taking in the nervous movement of Psyche's hands. Her fingers slowly twisted her wedding ring around and around as she thought about this wonderful opportunity and the issues that it would cause. It took her a minute or two before she finally spoke up.
"May I have twenty-four hours to think on it?" They agreed and Psyche left the University with quite a lot on her mind. She needed someone to talk to.
