My dear Nicolas, I hope that this letter finds you well, my old friend, and that you and Perenelle are not being unduly inconvenienced by the wars we now find descending upon us. It is the war that Gellert Grindelwald has forced upon us that brings me to write to you now. You, of course, know of my past with Gellert. You are one of the very few I have trusted with that information. I believe it is my duty to stop him. You may accuse me of taking too much upon myself but it was I who encouraged him down this path with my youthful foolishness and then refused to have anything further to do with him even though he attempted many times to contact me. You advised me to answer the letters and I refused. I cannot shift blame in regards to this matter. I must take up my responsibilities. I do however need a reason to be looking beyond Hogwarts' walls and to be occasionally leaving them. I had thought to put about the story that I am working with you on some secret and mysterious project for the war effort but I did not wish to do so without your agreement and assistance. What are your thoughts on this? I saw your latest letter in Potioneers Monthly and was quite amused though I suspect the intended recipient would not have been. The woman went to Beauxbatons else I would have asked Horace as to her abilities as a student. Still, she is young and youth is a time for making such mistakes. She will learn just as we all do. I shall not meander on any further except to say that I hope to see both you and Perenelle soon. Perhaps if you have some time at Easter, we might have dinner together? Fondly, |
