Why Me? (1/1) Title: Why Me? Author:blue_siofra Rating: PG-13 Characters: Jc/Joey, Rest of *N Sync, Wade Robson Summary: Joey has a secret.
"Damn it Joey! Can't you get anything right?" Wade screamed as Joey ran into Chris.
"Sorry Wade. I'm just a bit distracted today." He said as they all went back to their beginning places. Jc watched as Joey shook his head, clearing it of all thought. He smiled to himself. Joey looked at Jc in the mirror and smiled at him. The music started from the beginning and Jc felt a shiver run through his body. He hated himself for the fact that he couldn't come clean with his brothers. They'd never understand if he told him the biggest secret of his life. Well, make that two. He didn't want to alienate himself from them further by telling them the truth. And how was he supposed to help it if Joey was so damn good looking? He had the voice of an angel, and he rarely got to put it out there for everyone to hear.
"I'm going to have to make more a cappella songs for us." he thought as he executed a perfect sequence. The music stopped.
"Take five. A short five." Wade said with an edge of frustration as he left the room. Jc just let himself fall to the floor and he lied there, staring up at the ceiling for a minute before a head of sweaty, dyed hair blocked the view.
"Mind some company?" Joey asked as he sat on the floor next to Jc. Jc felt a shiver of excitement run through his spine and his pants get a bit tighter. He sat up quickly to a sitting position to cover the region that seemed to have a mind of it’s own.
"Not at all, bro. What's up?" he asked.
"I just need to talk to someone, that's all. I have a lot on my mind." he said. Jc hid a smile.
"I'm listening."
"Not here, I don't want the others to over hear it. You free after rehearsal?"
"If I wasn't I would make time for you. You know that." Jc said. Joey's smile brightened.
"Thanks C. You're the best."
"Anytime." Jc said as Wade walked back in and told them to get ready.
The rest of rehearsal seemed to drag by, but Joey was more attentive.
"That's it for the day." Wade finally said. Lance, Chris and Justin hurried to get out, while Joey took his time gathering his things, and Jc was still dancing, working something out in his mind. Wade seemed to take forever to leave. When he finally left, Jc stopped dancing and turned to face Joey.
"So what's up? Need help with something?" he asked. Joey wouldn't look up at him. He sat down on the couch and stared off into space for a moment. Jc got worried and sat down next to him. He knew by the look on Joey's face that he was gathering the courage to say what he need to say, so he didn't push him to hurry. Finally Joey sighed and looked at Jc.
"I'm gay." he said.
Jc was caught off guard, and couldn't stop himself before his mouth fell open.
"What?" he asked.
"I'm gay." he said again, this time not looking as confident as before.
"What about you and Kelly?"
"We're over for good. I couldn't string her along anymore. I've always known I've been attracted to guys as well as girls, and I've always tried to fight it, bringing back all those women every night. But lately I've been noticing this one guy in particular. He's smart, patient, great looking, and he doesn't judge people. I can't get him out of my thoughts, and it made me realize that I'm not really attracted to girls. I'm gay." Jc was silent for a moment before speaking.
"What made you come out to me? Do the others know?" he asked. Simple as that, he had accepted that Joey was gay.
"Well, for one thing, you listen, you don't judge, you're smart and you're one of my best friends." Joey said, quickly looking down.
"So is Lance. Why me?" Joey sighed before looking back up at Jc.
"Because it's you I'm interested in, even though you're as straight as an arrow, and I don't have a chance in hell with you." he said. He searched Jc's eyes before looking down. Jc couldn't believe what he just heard. He scooted closer to Joey.
"Joe, I haven't been completely honest with everyone either. I need to tell you something."
At that, Joey looked up. Jc gave a small smile and placed a hand on Joey‘s leg.
"I'm gay too." Joey jerked back.
"You're not. You're making that up as some sick thing to get revenge on me for what I just said." he turned and faced away from Jc. Jc glanced in the mirror at Joey's face before he reached out and gently turned him back around.
"Joe, come on. You know me. Would I ever do that to you? To anyone?" he asked, looking into Joey's eyes. He felt his pants tighten again and he willed himself to settle down.
"No, no. You wouldn't do that to anyone. But why didn't you say anything before?"
"Well, for one thing, I didn't know how any of you would react. All of us are in this business together, and I don't need to alienate myself from the four of you more than I already am. Another is I was worried how you would feel about it."
With that, Jc leaned in and kissed Joey tentively. When he pulled away, he searched Joey's eyes. There he saw the acceptance, love and relief he had wanted to see there for so long. Joey slowly leaned in and lay his head on Jc's shoulder.
