Jamie had eaten breakfast already with a few of the others. The cute mechanic had disappeared somewhere with a tray of food, was interesting. How come? The girl wondered, but the thought quickly faded. Maybe it was for the pilot; although she had seen two plates, maybe the pilot and the captain. It is often hard to grab food with bridge duty. She thought to herself as she sat reading a book in the lounge. She wasn't getting very much reading done due to her wandering brain. She was trying to read, Frankenstein by the old Earth-that-was author Mary Shelly. It hinted at her Core origins. Not that her bright strapless dress, and doll like hair didn't do that alone. Jamie couldn't help it, she was posing as a dancer and she had missed the fancy dresses. She was never allowed to wear anything other than her uniform on board ships before, and her hair always had to be up in a boring bun.

Inara had not yet eaten breakfast. It was not like her to be awake so late in the morning, but about once a month she allowed herself those few precious hours of extra sleep. This happened to be one of those days. She woke up around nine in the morning (or could it even be considered morning when you she looks outside her shuttle window and sees nothing but space?) and spent the next hour performing her daily waking rituals. Or they were as daily as she could get them, however she refrained from doing them in front of her clients. She did not want to scare them away with her religion and would not force it upon anyone.
Only when Inara was dressed in a lavish purple gown, her hair done up and she was entirely awake did she emerge from her shuttle. She made a straight walk towards the kitchen because she was feeling rather famished, but stopped in her tracks when she saw the new recruit sitting in the lounge reading a book from an author on the-earth-that-was.
"Mary Shelly," Inara stated kindly. It was Inara's simply and elegant way of asking if her company and conversation was welcome. "I remember that book well."

Jamie glanced upward at the sound of Inara's voice. She smiled infectiously, "It always has been a favorite of mine." The girl stated in a friendly tone. She would enjoy the company, especially since she didn't seem as... rough... as maybe other members of the crew. Jamie noticed how Inara looked completely out of place, too. "You happen to be another passenger too?" She asked with curiosity. Jamie hadn't seen her board with Dina and Lance, but she could have possibly gotten on at another time and place.

"Not exactly," Inara replied pleasantly. "I rent one of the shuttles for my work. I'm a registered companion; I suppose Serenity is my home actually. My name is Inara Serra."
Inara inclined her head towards the other woman in greeting. She was used to having passengers come and go by now, but every so often they got those few passengers who just sort of..stayed. Not that Inara minded; they had need of a doctor before Simon came along and she had grown incredibly close to River over the time they had been aboard Serenity. Perhaps Inara would be lucky again, but there was something about this woman's smile that put Inara on edge. Needless to say her curiosity had been peaked.

Jamie perked a brow curiously. "You work out of Serenity?" She found it odd and it could be heard in her voice. "I don't mean anything by it... just... Serenity is a lovely ship. But not the sort of one I'd think a fine lady as yourself would operate out of. Hope you don't mind me saying." Serenity was an old firefly; most people would find it rickety and the like. Jamie however being one that appreciates ships and engines immensely, saw its real beauty, but companions usually worked out of large expense cargo ships and extravagate passenger liners.
Jamie extended her hand to Inara in a friendly manner. "It's a pleasure meeting you Ms Serra. My name is Morgona West." Her name gliding off her tongue with ease, it was easy for Jamie to believably spin lies and fibs. Plus since leaving her post she'd introduced herself as such a couple dozen times or so. "Have you been on Serenity long then? Does she get out to some of the more distant Rim planets?" She asked with a smile.

"That I do," Inara replied pleasantly, seeming to not take offense to Jamie's words. She knew that it was unconventional of her to work outside of an old firefly like Serenity, but she certainly had her reasons. "It's not an expensive passenger liner, but it's home."
"Morgona West?" Inara asked, screwing her eyes up towards the ceiling as the name clicked in her mind. "That name sounds familiar. I think I may have known your mother." Her voice was still pleasant and her smile was still plastered on her face.
"I've been on Serenity nigh 8 months now. We get out pretty far even though I ask Mal not to. There's no work out there, you know? At least, not for me."

Jamie smiled, not letting the sadness she felt in herself reflect onto her face. Home... that would be nice to have, some place safe. If home is where the heart is; then she hadn’t had a home for a very long time.
When Inara said she might have known Jamie's mother, right then she couldn’t help the knot that grew in her stomach and then reached into her throat. She didn’t say anything, but for a moment she lost all poster hoping that the woman was mistaken. But then as Jamie thought upon it, Inara was a companion and that made all the sense in the world.
"I can imagine. Not many suitable places to find work I'm sure." Her voice was free of her worry, and she had hidden it from her face. It was her training, it had taught her much. She'd just hoped Inara hadn't seen, seen the look in her eyes. The one she was now hiding currently. "I don't think it'd be my mother ya know. I mean... I don't think she knows any companions, don't seem the type. I mean, she never talks about it." She was starting to slip again, as she sort of rambled on. "I have plenty of cousins n' the like. Mighta be one of them is who ya meanin'.” Jamie even let a bit of a draw into her words.
Something she tried doing most the time since she'd been out on her own, to hid her proper core speech. However she hadn't been speaking so much with it moments before. Not to much, she'd forgotten. Inara seemed more her crowd of people and her brain, as brilliant as it might be, just didn't bother with it.
