Oddball figured in order to pass the time he'd make that nice young lady some bookshelves for her room; the one that he came across on the interactive cortex journals. Was weird him finding her and her making plans with Emerald concerning hiring the gal. Maybe Oddball just found it convenient, like maybe he had just a touch of what his cousin got. Not that he really thought that, and if so it wasn't useful since he never knew anything useful. Defiantly not like Emerald even, who usually knew lots of things. Sometimes things that confused her a little more than the man liked, he didn't like seein' her act like little bit. Partly it worried him, worried him about Emerald and worried him about Lula.
The man made his way to the engine room, one place he was almost certain he'd find Akira. He wanted to borrow some tools so he could make the shelves. Although he wasn't sure, should it be wooden shelves or metal shelves. Maybe he'd ask Akira what he thought would be a better gift. It wasn't odd at all to the man to be making a girl he didn't know a gift. Oddball liked given gifts, and she'd be joining the crew so he figured it be a nice gift warming present for her berth. Plus she said she'd be needing some, so it was simple really. Everyone else was busy preparing to handle the injured men that had waved Emerald; Oddball had nothing else to do until arrival. So he stuck his head through the doorway of the Engine room, some of his dirty blond hair hanging in his face. "Boy ya in here?" He asked out as he peeked in.

Akira was, in fact, in the engine room. He figured with them being in such a rush to get where they were going, it'd be a terrible time for something to go wrong. And so, he was busily checking things out, over and over, to make sure everything moved as smooth as possible. Not to mention, him being there, keeping an eye on things, meant if something did go wrong he'd be right there to fix it as quick as possible.
Which also meant he had one hand working around in various places, and the other holding the apple he was munching on. Mouth full when Oddball poked his head in, he nodded and muttered around the food, "yep." Pulling his hand away from the engine, her turned to greet the man with a grin. "Ya be needin' somethin'?"

Oddball smiled at him with a small nod. "Yep. Could use some tools if ya can be sparin' umm." Oddball noticed the apple. "Could even bring ya a proper lunch if ya let me have use of umm for a few hours?" Akira, like Oddball, enjoyed his food. An apple not really qualifying as much of a lunch, and since he didn't see Akira at the table when he eat not long ago. The man imagined that he hadn't eaten yet even. The reason being clear; and so fetching him some proper food wouldn't be a problem. "I want to make a few book shelves, don't sactly have the tool myself ta do so."

Akira started nodding as soon as he started talking. Oddball's offer of real lunch got him a large, beamin' smile though. "Gots plenty o' tools ya can use, an' lunch. Lunch'd be much 'preciated." He grinned around another bite of the apple. With a curious tilt of his head, "book shelves? Do ya got a lotta books?"

"Nope I don't have many, least not already shelved. When we land planet-side on Paquin apparently the capt'n is hirin' new folk. The bookshelves are for a girl named Tanis, was talkin' to her on the cortex journalin' n' mentioned she'd be needin' ta make herself some. Figured it'd be a nice enough gift ta do it for her instead." Oddball explained. "Ya want anythin' in particular ta eat?" Oddball didn't mind making him something specially if he wanted it. The man enjoyed pleasing everyone, and helping out. Although he loathed actual work, but he didn't really consider it 'Work' when it was doing something kind for another person. It was all about sending out positive waves. He had odd definitions to things.

Akira chuckled, then looked happily surprised. "New folk?" Tilting his head, "Tanis? She seem the friendly type? New friends sure are shiny.." Then the grin was back full speed, "that's awful friendly of ya Oddball. Bet she'll right appreciate it!" The mention of food got a look of pure concentration on his face, like it was the most important thing he'd ever thought of. After a moment of consideration, "no flat cakes." With a sheepish grin, "mayhapse a sandwich? Not too picky, after all," he pointed out with another beaming grin.

“Ya… She seems nice enough. At least she’s chatty. Can’t be said of some folk we both adore. We adore her right?” He made a face; he was clearly talking about Monica. The two had those sort of conversations about the woman sometimes without mentioning her name, since she gets so pisses over little things. “Speakin’ of which have ya seen her the last few days. Haven’t spotted her even once, kinda odd.” Oddball smiled. “N’ sandwich it’ll be then.”

Akira grinned at that. Chatty he could work with. Chatty he would actually enjoy. Most folk on the ship weren't real chatty. Akira paused in thought, kind of like a normal person would when they were actually talking, to give that a second of concentration. "S'pose we must, prickly as she be." He grinned. They way they talked about her, one would assume they though she could hear everything anyone said the moment her name was mentioned.
Which really, wouldn't actually surprise Akira much if she could. At Oddball's question, he titled his head. "Ya know, haven't seen her none neither. Didn't even notice she wasn't 'round, been so busy."

Oddball couldn’t help but chuckle at him a bit. It was true. The man sometimes feared the red head overhearing his and Akira’s conversations. Not that they ever really said anything bad. Just as Akira said she’s sometimes prickly. “Hmmm… I’ve been keeping busy too. But she ain’t been at the dinning hall for food or nothin’.” He made his thoughtful face. “Ahh, no worries sure she likes the nobody bothering her. I’ll go make ya sandwich. Shall be back.”
Oddball headed to the kitchen. Even though he had already eaten, he also made himself a sandwich. Made sure they both had everything on it, including several types of cheese. Both of them liked their food long as it was real food and not protein paste, so Oddball was sure it’d be alright for Akira. He headed back sandwiches and coffees in hand. After eating he’d get to making the shelves.

"Capin' woulda said somethin' to us, ifin' anythin' was real wrong." Akira said, fully believing Emerald would tell them if they needed to worry. "Sure she does! Always sayin' we outta let 'er be." He grinned wider, then went back to tinkering with Lorrayna's engine.
Akira could nearly smell the sandwiches and coffee as Oddball returned. He wiped the grease off his hands best he could, then headed back over to the older man. He did like his food, which protein paste did not equal. "What'cha put on 'em?" He was more curious then concerned. He knew Oddball could pile on the cheese sometimes, and it was always good.

Oddball smirked. “Several types o’ meats, tomatoes, onio’s, lettuce, pickles, tha’d sandwich oil stuff Miss Gwenny uses, ahhh n’ chesses. Gotta love our refrigeration unit keepin’ fresh foods n’ all. Although be needin’ ta go shopin’ for stuff when were planet-side. Runnin’ kinda low.” He settled down where he found some space. He even gathered napkins. Since he knew The boy had been working on the engine.

Akira licked his lips and smiled. "Yep!" He looked terrified for half a second at the mention of them running low. Though the look was gone in no time, as he knew they were almost planet-side and all would be fine. He settled down too. "Thanks 'gain fer this. Been in here since Dori told be what were happenin'." He took one of the napkins, wiping his hands better, before picking up a sandwich and taking a huge bite.

Oddball nodded a bit, biting into his own food. Swallowing quick like before speaking again, “Na da problem. Was gettin’ hungry again anyway.” Even though he’d just had eaten for coming down here. Gwen had cooked, and she made one of those small calorie friendly girly lunches that he completely hated. He made the weirdest noises when he ate sometimes, not annoying or nasty ones. Just sighs and stuff, showed he was enjoying what he was eating.
greasy_akira
Akira would have been glad to know he missed one o' the girly meals. Since that would have just meant he had to make his own lunch anyways. He didn't understand the point in those kind of meals. Wasn't enough there to fill a person up.
Between bites, "I'd offer ta help ya wit' the bookcase, but dun wanna leave. 'Portant as it is we get there quick, dun wan' an'thin' to go wrong."

Oddball finished a chunk of his sandwich, “Na, it’dss fine. Na, thin’s goin’ wrong ain’t what’d I’d want ether. Do ya think the girl’d want a wooden shelve or a metal one? Metal’d last longer I do think. But wooden one might have a sorta, I don’t know personal feel.” He said, and then took another bite. Oddball personally enjoyed wooden crafted furniture, but like Emerald he had a flair for antique things.
