Who: Dori, Oddball Where: Lorrayna Phoenix- Oddball's shuttles. When: May 8th, 4pm Why: Dori's got a crush and good news. Rating: PG Status: Incomplete
doctor_dori Dori wouldn't rightly admit it to anyone, but the doctor had found herself napping in the infirmary. The lack of sleep the night before had, along with her busy morning, finally caught up to her. But like always she was only out a short time, which left her plenty of time to find Oddball, and share with him the good news.
Exiting the infirmary, she headed to the first likely place to look. Though she kept her steps quick when she saw no signs of him in the dinning hall. She shook her head, thinking, as she headed to her next stop. She was glad to share something happy with him, though it also made her feel a bit silly. She hadn't dealt with the tingly, mushy feelings in such a long time. "I'm livin' in a Bai Lih Mohn, that be all." She muttered to herself, feeling a bit unsure as she got closer. She nearly turned around, heading back toward the infirmary, before she muttered to herself, "Fahn Dahn, girl," and tapped on the door. Though she very nearly turned away once she'd knocked, too.
_oddball_ Oddball had taken his late lunch back to his shuttle; he was doing a bit of multi-tasking. Well it wasn't real work, not in the sense of the word. The man was the king of avoiding such things; it was a special gift he had. No what he really was doing, was looking up different sorts of old films on the cortex. If he could find a nice one, he'd burn it to a disc and give it to Miss Emm. She'd enjoy that, she'd probably make the whole crew sit down and watch it with her, she was Chai Neow like that.
Oddball glanced up at the soft tape of the door. This modified shuttled had all sorts of nifty things, which included a remote switch to open the doors from the inside. He flipped it, and as the door slid open he peek his head to where he could see out the door. He smiled when he saw it wasn't the heathen red head, he chuckled. "Ni How, Little lady." Coming out of the speakers on ether side of the rear end of the shuttle was music, a bit of Elvis Presley to be precise. Whom oddball was told, was a king himself back in the day on Earth-that-Was. The music wasn't very loud, although if it had been nobody on the other side of the door would have been able to hear it. Since the thing was sound proofed too. Both his shuttles had all sorts of nifty things, not regularly seen some wasn't even illegal, like the original reason for building the things. Oddball had Akira come tend to the things a lot, he doesn't know a thing on how the machines work just how to run and fly them.
Unlike the rest of the crew, minus Neve, he didn't have a crew quarters, he lived out of the shuttles like the companion. His personally belongs split between the two places. No one ever knew which one he'd be in, neither did he. The place was decorated to fit his personality. A little bit of everything, he had a lot of flashy stuff. He's room appear similar to Emm's in the manner that both had plenty of required this-and-that's on the walls and shelves although it wasn't cluttered or even crowded. Two personal spaces meant more room for things. He had a bed in each, along with other comfortable seating. Then the front of the shuttle was cut off with draping that was able to conceal his space from the pilot and weapon controls.
The man was seating at an elaborate desk that was stained and had Chinese carvings decorating the wood of the object. Here he had all sorts of tech; this was were his personal cortex terminal sat, amongst other things. On the screen was a bunch of smaller windows where he was searching the files in the data-library via the cortex. His black box sat next to the terminal, Oddball didn't even care about hiding it. Cause compared to all the other illegal contraband, it was nothing. If an Alliance ever even got a good scan on his shuttles, he and Emerald [and all the crew for that matter] would be looking for a very long-long visit to the slammer. But pirates didn't care, why should they?
doctor_dori Dori smiled back, hoping the warmth in her face faded quickly. "And Ni How to you, Kind sir." She greeted back, poking her head into the shuttle a bit. She wasn't sure what he was playing, but she liked the sound of it.
For a moment she was transfixed by the desk, as she likely would be every time she saw it. It was breath taking-ly beautiful, and she nearly forgot why she'd come. But then she remembered and pulled her head back into the hallway. "You mind ifin' I come in? I've a How Shi Sung Chung to share within' you."
_oddball_ Oddball smiled warmly at her. "Ohhh course I don't mind, Ching Jin." He waved her a little bit with his hand. Although he made a slightly weary face. "That is long as Ms. Walker ain't with ya??" He added with a chuckle, figuring that she wasn't. "Damn woman looked ta tear me head off earlier... All I did was ask what had happened to her hand... Tian Xiao De, I do believe she's crazy. Like really." He added, unsure if he should really say such things out loud. He never knew she might be lurking about. He sighed, smiling once more. "You mentioned happy news?" He patted the chair sitting near the desk, indicating for her to sit.
doctor_dori Dori smiled back, stepping into the shuttle. Though she stopped and actually looked behind her a little worried at the mention of Monica. Her talk with Emm had her a touch worried about bumping into the red head again. Though she hoped it didn't show when she turned back to look at Oddball. "Be thinkin' she had more'n her share of my time earlier," she said with a little nod.
"Jahn news, even." She smiled, tucking her long legs under her as she sat. She couldn't help herself as her fingers danced across the desk, tracing the carvings she could reach. Damn desk kept distracting her it seemed.
_oddball_ Oddball watched Dori, he could see the bit of worry at the mention of Monica. He hadn't meant worry, or cause worry. He nodded a bit at her comment. Oddball imagined she did, since she was all wrapped up. The lady hadn't the infirmary he couldn't imagine the fight that musta takin' place getting her to it.
He continued watching her with a smirkful smile. "It was my great-grandfathers desk." He told her with a smile. "He was a writer of great-tales. Many things haven' ta do with old Earth-that-Was. Several of those inscriptions bein' from his favorite tales n' what they called... poems. He was one of the few, whom weren't a pilot or engineer." At that he chuckled, at the comment he also meant beside himself.
doctor_dori "It's Jing Chai," she told him, looking up from the desk. "Sounds to be wonderful." Her own family wasn't much for knowing about Earth-that-Was, or telling tales, so to her he sounded like a dreamy sort of grandfolk to have. Especially if he was responsible for this desk.
"S'posein' you're doin' things, and I should be gettin' to the point then, Shi?" She asked, swaying just a touch to the music.
_oddball_ "Naaa, nothin' too important. Just doin' a little skimmin' of stuff." He smiled. "Sides company is always pleasant. I think Emm and her little critters be the only ones that wandered this a-way for a few days. Sides Ms. Hawks, that was work related. This work related?" He asked, curious at what it was.
doctor_dori She shook her head, which shook a bit of loose hair into her face. "Capin' Lady was chattin' with me earlier," she pulled her hand into her lap. Turning in her seat to look at him better. "Let slip where will be goin' planet side, said I could tell ya, since it's mighty nice news." Wow, that was sort of beyond ramble for Dori.
_oddball_ Oddball really didn't think she was rambling. It made all sorts of sense to him. "Did she now?" He asked playfully with a slight tilt of the head. "Bein' nice news?" He asked question in his voice, he was tryin' to figure out where it might be. But after a mere moment he shrugged he wouldn't strain his brain trying to figure it out when the little lady could just tell him. "So, Missy, where would that be?"
doctor_dori "Rightly did," Dori smiled. Kind of excited to be stopping on a planet she'd never been to before, and even more to one Oddball was actually born on. "We'll be landin' on Paquin," she said after a moment. "I haven't ever been before, but Capin' made it sound real nice."
_oddball_ Oddball smiled widely, surprise written all over his face. "That's Gao Guhn, It is amazing! It be the place I hail from." He laughed with his playful words. "It's been a while since I'd been home, Capt'n ain't traveled near her in a good-long while." He sounded a bit thoughtful; the man was curiously wondering why she had chosen that planet. Oddball knew the captain avoided it terribly so the last few years.
doctor_dori Dori smiled, his reaction was beyond worth hunting him down. She ducked her head down for a moment though, since his excitement and smile had sent a slight warmth rushing up her neck. "S'pose that means you've folk to visit then, Shi?" She asked curiously.
_oddball_ He smiled again, "That I do. A whole mess of them actually." Of course Oddball wasn't so sure how most of them felt about seeing him. Especially his father, although at the end of the war it seemed the two men had been getting along better than in years past. However there were two young ladies that Oddball was sure would be bound to enjoy seeing him. "I got me the most adorable cousins." He chuckled a bit. "Well I got lots of those, but particularly Lula and Lola." He grinned, if it hadn't been for those two, he didn't think he would have made it through the last few years before the war. "You have to meet them little lady; if there be anything in the 'Verse you want fixed then Lula would be your girl..." He got quieter a moment, like he was going to tell her a secret or something. "She'd beat Akira on her worse days." He laughed a bit. "She's a little genius, and her sister is just as brilliant. She been flyin' ever since before she was walkin' it seems."
doctor_dori "Sounds real nice," Dori said. She herself had only really ever had her parents, who she loved but didn't much get along with. Any family she might of had beyond that was long gone..
"Lula and Lola," she repeated with a small smile. He wanted her to met them? That of course made the smile widen. "I'd rightly love ta meet 'em." She grinned, even chuckling a little (which was a rare occurrence). "Shi Ma? Don't s'pose you should be tellin' him that though. Poor Akira might not take it so well."
_oddball_ "Na, I'd wouldn't do tha'd ta him. Since he's a finer engineer th'n I'd ever be." Course the man didn't think that was saying much so he added, "He is brilliant in his own accord... I'd be lost without umm." Oddball admitted to Dori with the nod of his head. Oddball appreciated the engineer and admired him a great deal. It was sort of like having a younger brother, that's how Oddball thought of him.
doctor_dori Dori nodded, smile still holding somewhat strong. "Speakin' with machines, the way the good engineers seem ta, be a might impressive thing to me." Shrugging just a touch, "find it ta be awful impressive when folk can fly an' fight too, s'pose 'cause I don't."
_oddball_ "Na, but your doctorin' is impressive in its own." He nodded. "So Miss Dori, Do you have any family of your own... if'n you don't mind sharin'... if'n you do, well I'd understand. Just figurin' I don't know all that much about you out side of the ship, since ya don't talk about umm as it is." He knew she was the quite sort, and it was a horrible thing that happened to her on that ship before Lorrayna. But still some days he found himself wondering what parts of the ‘Verse she was from and the like.
doctor_dori "S'pose I don't mind.." Though she knew she might find herself unable to share everything.. somethings she'd simply never talked about. Wrapping her arms around herself, "only family I've got 'round is my parents. Live on Boros, same as always.. don't much talk to 'em. Didn't so much understand why I chose the thin's I did, an' we sort o' lost touch."
She wasn't sure what all he wanted to know, but she felt like she should explain a bit. "Da' understood better then Ma, but not much, when I joined the medic crew durin' the war. Patched up folk from both sides an' got better learnin' then I would have in school." She looked over at him, "anythin' you were wantin' to know specific?"
_oddball_ Oddball listened giving her his full attention. He could understand the first part of that, his father never understood him. Much less why he chose to fly with Emerald Storm. Oh his father was proud of him joining the war; it was just about the only thing he was proud of him for. But the rest of it, well the two men didn't see eye-to-eye on.
He nodded some; understand maybe why a person would have gotten all ruffled up with that. Most parents would want their child in school safe and the like. Others might not feel so glad of working both sides. Sure it was helping folks, but still most felt you were on one side or the other. You couldn't choose both. Not that Oddball thought any different of Dori, fact, him knowing this made him think a bit. But didn't change nothin'.
"Just stuff... anything really." He winked, teasing again like he always was.
doctor_dori She didn't mind that he didn't say anything. Probably liked it better that way, actually.
"Anythin'?" She had the barest touch of a grin, and a tiny twinkle in her eye. "Well, I don't rightly like the color orange none. Pretty strong feelin's against it, matter o' fact."
_oddball_ Oddball chuckled a bit at that. She was a cute one, really. "Yea, it's a pesky color ain't it?"
The man smiled, thinking about visiting home again. He really wanted to know why though. It was a weird thing Emm picking Paquin like that, it was a lovely planet. Especially for vacationing and enjoying one's self, but still so off for the Captain.
doctor_dori She grinned a little broader and nodded.
Then wrapping her arms around herself tighter, and a slight tilt of her head, she answered more seriously. "I hated bein' the only kid 'round home." Thoughtfully, "I didn't much play with anyone from school, an I didn't have no one to play with when I got home neither." With a slightly, almost wishful look. "Always wanted lots o' little ones runnin' 'round." Shrugging, trying to make herself believe it really didn't matter. "Don't reckon that'll be happenin' now, but that's just fine. Takin' care o' you lot's almost the same."
