She doesn't want to be alone, can you blame her?? Who: Monica; OPEN although she’s looking for Akira. Where: Lorrayna Phoenix- Heading to the main Engine Room When: May 11th, Late evening after the talk with Talos in the lounge. Why: Because she can’t sleep as usually, and now she doesn’t want to be alone. Rating? PG Status: Incomplete
Monica sat curled up on the large sofa in the Lounge for a little while. Crying to herself, she didn’t do it too often. Especially where somebody could come a crossed her, but it seemed the last couple days it was become for frequent. She nearly fell asleep, but that she caught herself waking at the sound of a noise. Or, she thought it had been a noise maybe it wasn’t after all. She sighed, wiping at her face. Her eyes were blood shoot, but she didn’t care. She wouldn’t really know unless she looked. And she wasn’t going to. Monica sat staring at the cards and bottle sitting on the floor. The more she stared the more she felt like she’d start crying, again. Her brain was wandering in all sorts of places. She couldn’t really sleep, and she didn’t want to be alone.
So she pulled herself to her feet. At first she figured she’d just get coffee, maybe coffee would help. But as she wobbled, yes wobbled. The pain killers were still pretty strong in her system, and it seemed the strongest side enough besides the rambling unintentionally which she didn’t think could really be described as a side effect; the next worse was the dizziness. She decided coffee would only make her for jittery, so she decided the idea. She oddly, wanted to find Kira. If he was awake, she’d find him. And she didn’t know what else. Talk to him maybe? She just didn’t want to be alone, and really the only person she could even imagine going to, was him. He, after that conversation over dinner a few days ago, He was the closest thing she had to a friend on ship. At least the way she saw things. Of course part of herself thought it was a stupid idea, but another knew that he’d help. Just by him rambling about something else, that’d help. She didn’t even know if he was awake. Though she figured if he was, her best bet was if he was tinkering in the engine room. SO that’s where she headed. And if he wasn’t there, she’d go to her berth. But she didn’t really want to. Her cards and bottle were left, she figured she’d get them later on sometime.

[info]greasy_akira 2008-05-21 11:18 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Aside from the time he'd spent with Lula, Akira hadn't really done all of that much during the day. Mostly he'd done what he always did, tinkered with the engine. Figure if they were gonna be planetside for a bit then he should probably be sure they had all the supplies they'd be needing 'fore they shot out into the black once again.
He'd thought about heading to sleep, had even headed to his berth, but couldn't seem to keep his eyes shut. So he'd headed to the infirmary for a bit, figuring Dori'd be awake if nothing else. She'd been busy with some such though, so he'd only stuck around for a little bit before he found himself back in the engine room. With nothing much to do at the moment, and for some reason all sorts of awake, well, he found himself finally getting around to cleaning up his toolbox. Though it was a sort of half hearted attempt. [info]__walker__ 2008-05-21 11:42 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Monica moved slowly in the hallway. As to not cause herself to get completely light headed and pass out on the floor. Because, wouldn’t that be the perfected ending to the best day ever. When she reached the engine room doorway, she peaked inside kind of slowly, and skittishly. She dried her eyes, and face, but was still signs that she’d been crying. Or, maybe it would be interpreted as something else. Though she didn’t actually care, or thought about it any. Monica didn’t say a word, just leaned against the doorframe some to help stabilize the spinning room a bit. She smiled softly when she saw Kira messing with his toolbox. [info]greasy_akira 2008-05-22 07:21 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Akira didn't hear Monica make her way to the door, nor did he hear her when she leaned against it. He'd gotten a song stuck in his head while sitting there and had begun to half hum/half whistle it at some point.
Organizing and cleaning had never been something he'd found enjoyable, which was likely the reason he'd actually begun the humming/whistling. It wasn't something completely unknown for him to do, but it was something he did all of that often either. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]__walker__ 2008-05-22 07:39 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Monica watched him for a little longer without saying anything, her small smile remaining. She often did that, watched from doorways. Use to do it a whole hell of a lot with Ace on the Bridge. Though, sometimes he knew she was there. Monica inwardly sighed. It was oddly one of her favorite activities. Now, well she didn’t know. The woman spoke up then, “Looks ta be fun, ya want some help?” She wasn’t speaking really loudly; but defiantly loud enough for him to hear. She actually didn’t find cleaning things all that terrible of a job. She’d spend hours cleaning guns instead of socializing with the crew. So, helping might actually be enjoyable. You had to have your tools in working condition after all; her tools where her guns, and his, well, where actual tools. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]greasy_akira 2008-05-22 10:32 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select When the red head finally spoke up she gave Akira a bit of a spook. Which was made clear by him dropping a wrench and swearing. Loudly.
He spun around to give her a bit of a glare, though the look died when he took in her appearance. To which he gave a somewhat curious and somewhat worried look instead. "This looks ta be fun ta ya?" He maybe sounded like he thought she was more then a little weird for that. He grinned at her then, though his eyes still had the curious/worried look to them. "'Course," and he patted the spot next to him, "comfy spot 'ere for ya." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]__walker__ 2008-05-22 10:52 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She teasingly gasped, head titled slightly and a brow rose in fake shocked curiosity. “Kira??” Clearly she was teasing, as if any sort of swearing would ever really bother her. The woman smirked to herself, while spooking him is far from what she wanted to do. Was kind of worth it to hear swear, since she honestly didn’t think she heard him do so very often.
She had no reaction to his worry look; she noted it but would say nothing. The red head nodded at his first question, “Actually, ya it does.” And Monica didn’t mind being weird for it, in fact amused her that it came across as him thinking her weird. She smiled slightly at his grinning. She’d made it clear last time she like his grinning. Monica slowly moved over, reached for his shoulder to help stable herself as she lower into the little spot, thinking he wouldn’t care. Be worse if she fell on him instead. [info]greasy_akira 2008-05-23 02:38 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select "Wha? Ya be sneakin' on folk an' ya likely ta hear 'em say all sorts o' things." Not that he really minded or anything. Was kind of amused by her teasing, really. And nope, swearing was saved for special occasions. Like when he was spooked real good, or when he dropped a heavy wrench on his toes.
Probably a good thing he didn't expect her to say anything then. Not that he really expected her to say anything if he were to just point blank ask what was wrong either. Wasn't a good plan to expect things of Monica since that seemed to be when she did something different.
It seemed fair that he finally got to think of her as weird for something since he was sure she (and the others) often thought him weird for things he did. His only response to Monica grabbing his shoulder was another curious little look, this time accompanied by a head tilt. Although if she were to fall on him it would make them sort of even for him throwing the two of them outta her seat last time they'd talked.
"So what'cha still up for?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]__walker__ 2008-05-23 11:53 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Monica only smirked at Akira’s slightly defensive comment. Eyes raised again in amusement. She nodded, as if to say ‘Ahh, haaa. Sure.’ Of course still teasing with him.
That was true, Monica often did switch things up when folks when around expecting other things of her. Didn’t do it on purpose, she’d probably not even notice she reacted that way.
That was true, was plenty of things Akira did that Monica thought him weird for. But his weirdness made him stick out in her mind. She however didn’t notice the second curious look, or really the head tilt. It was out of character for her, considering it was Monica. But she was acting out of place as of late, opening up to Akira a little bit. More than she had in the few years they’d both been crew on Lorrayna.
Once settled, she shrugged slightly. “Sleep would be to awful, I-ss a always usually up; don’t sleep to often anymore anyway. Brainpan’s always wandering on me.” Eyeing him she asked, “Didn’t expect ya ta still be up.” (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]greasy_akira 2008-05-27 09:08 am (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Once she was settled he leaned over a little to lightly bump against her, smiling in his friendly way. Going back to pulling tools out of the tool box and piling them on the floor next to it while he talked. "Didn't know ya didn't sleep much," he wasn't as concerned by that since she seemed to function just fine with however much sleep she did get, though if he thought about it, it did worry him a little. If her brainpan was a'wandering, then it was probably takin' her places she should have to go.
He grinned as she eyed him, "me neither!" He chuckled and shook his head, "dunno why I am. Jus' couldn't seem ta sleep." Tilting his head a bit, "if'in ya didn't expect me ta be up, how come ya came in 'ere?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]__walker__ 2008-05-28 08:01 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Monica lightly bumped him back, in a teasing way. She helped him remove the tools; she’d been serious about helping him. “Ya, I normally keep to myself. So, ya wouldn’t, really.” She usually was in the kitchen, lounge, or her bunk when she couldn’t sleep. Of course she also spent time in the exercise cove, and security office. Actually, come to think of it she wandered about the entire ship. Part of it was a weird part of her, making sure everyone else was safe. She sometimes woke with paranoia of things happening. But, not that she’d ever spoke of it to anyone. Hell, most the crew wouldn’t believe the fact that she couldn’t sleep because she was worried about there safety. But it was true. Just, after what happened with her family, before, she just couldn’t ever really relax. Even when there was absolutely no reason for think something was wrong. Usually she did function just fine on a few hours, caffeine helped a lot. And she’d never been one to really sleep too long. Was that way on the Ranch too when she was young. She needed need as much sleep, she supposed as others. But, it didn’t mean as of late that she wasn’t wearing her sleep down, because, in fact that was what was happening.
She sort of chuckled with him a bit. And then when he asked his question, she sort of shrugged, slightly embarrassed at it actually. “I’ahh … Guess was just kinda hopin’ ya was in ‘ere.” She didn’t say it very loud, so others that might pass wouldn’t hear. But it was the truth, and oddly she didn’t mind him knowing. It was weird how one little medicated conversation had lead to her wanting, and not caring about sharing things with the mechanic. He’d been on the ship for some while, and this really was the first she’d started letting him in on anything. She supposed she’d spent so much time pushing them out so to not get attached, that it didn’t matter; she’d gotten attached to the whole lot of them without realizing it. Monica would do anything to protect them; maybe being so friendly, and wanting to spend time around him would lead to horrible things after all. But, damn, she was so tiered of only being around herself, and everyone else enjoying things. Or, perhaps it also could just be the way Oddball had spoken to her the other day, and what he’d said to her. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]greasy_akira 2008-06-26 10:09 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select "Well ya always welcome to stop by here, an' ifin' ya get lonely ya can stop by my bunk." There was no innuendo attached to the statement, and Akira flashed her a friendly grin. While he was, in fact, a fan of his sleep, he was a bigger fan of being there for his friends when they were needing someone to talk to. Besides, it wasn't like he couldn't catch a nap during the day most of the time.
At her quiet reply he beamed a smile, the lightly slung one arm over her shoulders to give her a quick, half-hug. After the things she'd shared, he sort of got why she never really tried to make friends with them, it was sort of the same thing Dori did after all. But he was defiantly glad that she'd decided to make friends with him.
He didn't actually respond in a vocal way though, since she seemed to be keeping it quiet and he wasn't exactly well known for his whisper. So instead he shook a wrench slight and asked, "since yet clearly more organized then me, any ideas on how ta best do this?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]__walker__ 2008-06-29 08:00 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select A soft smile crossed her lips, and she nodded some. ” Sheh Sheh The woman didn’t say that often, and so she really did mean it. And she might actually surprise him one day by taking him up on that. In that manner in which he meant it of course, Of course she thought of Ace for a moment, and sighed wishing she knew why he’d left the ship. Emerald hadn’t even told everybody yet. But, that was cause the Captain Lady was planning on a big briefing introducing new crew, and informing those that would have known them, that Ace and Neve were both taking some time off ship. The two women had spoken about it, and the Captain told Monica why Neve had cleared out his shuttle. But, not why Ace had wandered off with Luggage. The Red head thought it was stupid because they hadn’t even another pilot lined up, because that applicant for the Co-pilot position never returned Emeralds second message.
She leaned her head on his shoulder some, sort of in a way returning the affection. She really did appreciate his friendly manner; she needed it even if she’d never admit to it. Monica hadn’t ever been one to get too many hugs from many people. But, Kira was kind of like a teddy bear, at least that was what she was starting to think of him as. She needed that friendly shoulder to lean on; she hadn’t really let anyone be that for her in a long while. She was picky, but, glad that she’d picked Akira. He seemed to understand better than she would have thought.
Monica nodded; “Well” She looked at the empty tool box, and then the different sized tools. “Which ones do you use the most often? I’d place all the larger ones ta the bottom, ‘cept for the ones ya’ll need out regularly, smaller ones over da larger ones and the other ones on da top.” She said in somewhat of a shrug, “Or, less ya got another method of keepin’ them. That’d ya use to… it’s what ever works for ya best.” She chuckled “But that’s how I got the guns, larger ones on the racks in the back of the lockers, smaller ones near the front.” She laughed some, to each their own tools. [info]greasy_akira 2008-07-10 12:18 am (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He probably understood better from years of helping out the families of those lost during the war. After his father had joined the Browncoats, his mother had done everything she could to help the other families around them and soliders whenever she could. And even from a young age, Akira liked people. Like making them feel better, and so he'd been there for a lot of folk who'd gotten bad news.
It wasn't exactly the same, but close enough.
He watched her as she worked out her plan. Moving a few tools closer to him at her question, "these." He grinned at her shrug, and silly comment, "don't got a method of my own." He grinned harder, shaking his head at he a little. "Ya wanna hand tools ta me, or other way 'round?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]__walker__ 2008-07-11 08:21 am (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She nodded when he pulled the ones towards himself, grinning at him a bit, just in response to his own grinning. “ ’pose I can hand ‘em to you.” She told him, picking up the largest ones and started handing them over, after making sure they was all clean and polished, case he missed a few.

[info]greasy_akira 2008-08-01 09:04 pm (local) (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Her checking over the tools to make sure they were clean and polished made him smile harder, like he wanted to laugh a little. It was a well known fact that he tended to leave engine grease all over everything, so he wasn't surprised to see her do it. Appreciated it too, since having a clean toolbox with dirty tools in it seemed a bit redundant.
Though his tools were probably surprisingly clean to most folk. Only a few smudges of grease on the handles of a few of them. Everything else was actually clean, though almost nothing was polished. He was a fan of polishing, especially since he'd just get them all dirty again in no time.
[ooc: Aw, no worries. Compared to the rest of our post in this one, I think it's actually the only normal sized reply. LOL We've been writing big ol' books for some reason!] (Re
