Jason had been on Cloud 9 since Sunday, probably unbearably so for some of his squad. Jimmy was happy for him, he could tell just by the level of shit his best friend was giving him for being in such a good mood for two wholes days. He had every reason to be. The woman he loved had agreed to marry him, his daughters adored her, her son didn't seem to hate him and he'd even gotten in his mother's good graces for doing it. Not even a rash of copycat arsons and various other anti-preternatural stupidity could dampen his mood.
And he'd forgotten to text Sophie on the way home. He'd called Rachel instead, letting her know the contractors would be in to finish the basement Friday so she and Mark could move in whenever she was ready. He'd happily pay for movers to pack her and her son up and move them if it got it done faster. Now that they were engaged, there was no good reason to wait. Maybe if they were younger and didn't have any kids, he would have waited until the wedding. But the circumstances made two households completely unworkable. Time to get that fixed as soon as possible.
Jason was surprised to pass Mateo's car as he pulled into the drive. Gracie was at her girl scout meeting tonight, which meant Ana was there as well. And Teo never came inside anymore, much to his chagrin. He had never been mad at the boy for what happened between him and Sophie. Well, no more angry than 'You made her cry.' He didn't understand why they'd broken up, but had sides with his daughter because that was his job.
This bore investigating...
Jason decided to let himself in the kitchen door, since Sophie was home. If anything, she'd probably need the moral support. He was immediately assailed with the scent of banana bread and stressed out teenagers. Hoo boy. "Hey, princess," he greeted his oldest daughter as he stepped in the house. Then he turned his attention to Mateo. He didn't want to seem too friendly, but also not too forbidding. "Hey, 'Teo," he greeted. "Been awhile." Which was an invitation for the boy to explain himself while not sounding accusatory. Hopefully.
