"I was busy bringing in his stupid toy truck," he muttered. Yeah, the whole office still stunk of nervous. He'd have just made the guy run in terror.
"Busiest fire department in the country," he reminded her. "They earned it." Colin nodded and devoured another donut. "Yeah, they were looking for mechanics who knew how to work on the trucks for major repairs. Keeping their own got too expensive, so they're leasing work out. I used to help Dad with the fire trucks he worked on back home. That was a good commission." Plus fun. It wasn't everyday he got to work on a fire engine.
Colin rolled his eyes. Cate knew how he felt about modern, foreign, mostly plastic and glitchy computers cars. "Nothing seems really wrong," he told his sister. "But I'm betting it's low on fluids, needs the tires realigned replaced. I'll test the shocks and struts. Looks like he drove it across the damned country or something."
She wasn't getting away with changing the subject either. "So why was he so nervous?" he demanded. "The office still reeks of it. Did he ask you out?" Not that that was a bad thing. The guy at least had a good job. Even if he did have lousy taste in cars.
