"It's a promise then," he said. "I'll try to make sure they don't suck." He was liking the idea of this more and more. Taking pictures didn't require him to interact with people and there had to be some awesome stuff in the largest museum in the world. AJ didn't have any illusions about how much help he needed. And he'd be lying if he said that he didn't want the attention of a beautiful woman. Even if she was just trying to 'fix' him. There were worse things.
He was a little surprised and kind of flattered that Kayla found his hair that interesting. Babies seemed to always want their mommies and new people were only interesting so long. He didn't mind though. She was awfully cute and there was just something about holding her that was soothing. Good for his usually frazzled nerves.
"I almost brought three," Janice admitted. "I've seen your brother eat. I want to know where all that food's going. Skinny as a rail, that boy. It's not fair." She shook her head and smiled. "Biased nothing. This city would be a better place if it was full of people like you."
Janice laughed. "No, he said he wanted her to have her very own little round cake to tear up," she said. "But he's trying to convince me to make a sheet cake cut into a car or a truck. For a girl. Men." She shook her head, then remembered AJ standing there. "No offense, darlin'."
"None taken," AJ assured the woman. He definitely wouldn't have thought of a car or truck cake for a girl. Unless she really liked them. He wasn't going to offer any contrary opinion though. Since he'd just met Cate and Kayla.
Janice's brows raised when Cate invited AJ to Kayla's birthday. Well, well, no wonder she was letting him hold the baby and introducing him around. He was definitely handsome. And good with Kayla. She approved of Cate's taste in men. "I better head back. Before the place falls down. Those boys couldn't manage without me." Giving Cate a quick hug, she stopped in from of AJ to stroke Kayla's hair quick. Poor boy looked poleaxed for some reason. Maybe he was just shy. "See you later, Cate."
AJ was stunned by the invitation. It was really nice and Kayla seemed to be overjoyed by the idea. But he wasn't used to a stranger who wasn't dying trusting him that much. "I-," he began, then mentally berated himself for possibly offending her. "I mean yeah. Sure. I'm just surprised. You just met me." He'd grown up in LA. Where is was easier to not trust strangers than take a chance on them. "Sorry, now used to the Southern hospitality thing. People in LA aren't this nice. But, thanks. Yeah, I'd like that."
