"I'm not any good at it," he said. "I mean, I'm not terrible, but I'm not good enough I'd show it off to people." He liked taking pictures, preserving that interesting in moment. But he wasn't a photographer. "It does sound interesting. I mean, I live in D.C. now and I've kind of always wanted to see the Smithsonian. So yeah, that's a good idea."
Why Cate had moved to start over was a much better reason than why he had. He couldn't imagine the pain she had wanted to escape. It would have been a million times worse than what he went through. "Yeah," he agreed. Although he wasn't sure exactly what he could do to help her. She clearly had a better grip on things than AJ did.
Yeah, that's why he hadn't held her up high for long. It was kind of a compromise. High and scary to make the baby happy, but not long enough to scare her mother. Luckily, Kayla was distracted by his long hair when he pulled her back down.
"My mother tried," he admitted wryly. "But yeah, I really wanted to help people and be a firefighter." He shook his head. "No, it's my day off. I didn't mean to take up so much of your time though." Which was now interrupted by another customer coming into the office. AJ wasn't certain what to do except step back and keep Kayla entertained while her mother worked.
