AJ smiled shyly when the pretty blond woman waved him into the office. Making sure the exterior door was closed, he turned around and that's when he noticed the playpen. It was a rare sight, most people didn't bring their kids to work anymore. Of course, this looked like a Mom and Pop kind of place and daycare was expensive. This must be the mechanic's wife and kid. Yeah, he could see why the other guys recommended it. You always got better service at a family business. The people actually cared.
"Hi," he said. He gestured towards his truck outside. "This is going to sound stupid but my truck has been making weird noises all weekend. I just drove it from LA and I think it might have been too much for it." He nodded. "Yeah, I was expecting Noah to pass me on the freeway. It always rain like this this time of year?"
He hesitated at the offer of coffee. "I'm probably going to be here awhile, aren't I?" Especially if something was wrong with his truck. "Please, then. I don't think I've had good coffee since high school." Coffee at the firehouse sat around long enough you could cut it with a knife. Especially for rescue paramedics, who were always out. By the time he got to it, it had probably been in the pot four or five hours. So good coffee would definitely be a change.
