Tad twirled the olive around in his drink, studying Bif. Was that evil smile one of jealousy, or...? Did he think that Tad had feelings for Derby? Tad wasn't sure if he'd be angry when it ended, or relieved.
"I'm not implying anything about my Derby," Tad said, taking ownership of Derby just to be annoying. "But if you only knew how embarrassing he is when it comes to you, you might not have dismissed him so callously." He took another careful sip, and added, "Emotions are an asset to a politician, of course. He likes to pretend not to have them, but you should know better."
"And as for moving on since high school," Tad added for good measure, "I have an MBA and am being groomed to take over an international, billion dollar corporation, while you're getting transferred around like a cog. How middle management!" He shook his head, drained his glass, and ate the olive.
