"Yes," said Bif coolly. "Derby and I used to spend quite a bit of time up here." He said it in the kind of patronising tone, suggestive that himself and Derby were doing grownup things there, while Tad and the rest of the school were stuck within the confines of the schoolyard and the general township. But he couldn't quite hide the wistful note in his voice, or the slightly distracted look in his eyes.
But Tad was sitting here, requiring answers.
"Well," said Bif, "I was hoping to mingle with the population of Bullworth, see what they'd become, laugh at most of them, have a few drinks and see Derby's speech. I was also wondering how my father's work was coming along in terms of the community development." He chuckled airily, then leaned across the table, looking Tad in the eye.
From a distance, it could have looked like a friendly gesure, but it was pure challenge. "Why, Tad?" he asked. "Was there something else you were planning on showing me?"
