The lighter was, of course, Tad's, but it wasn't fake. Tad didn't actually have Derby's lighter, and he had expected Bif to catch that, but he had a lie ready to counter it. He was almost disappointed when Bif didn't ask.
"Oh he certainly seems to be," Tad agreed nonchalantly, taking a cigarette from his own case and putting it between his lips before closing the case and slipping it into the pocket on the inside of his jacket. "I've often wondered what sort of person wouldn't appreciate the privileges that come along with being Derby's best friend. But I suppose there must be something that would lead one to throw it away." He took a puff of his cigarette and looked Bif up and down, meaningfully.
