"Unsually cheerful, aren't you, Tad?" he asked. He wondered how Tad had felt, watching the attack on Derby so publically. "I noticed you didn't go out of your way to stop it, either." He considered asking if Tad had had deeper involvement; had he spoken to Gary just before the speech started? Just how much did Tad know about Derby's private life anyway?
He watched the other man's face carefully. "I wasn't glad to witness that at all," he said with a quiet sort of dignity. "I had no idea what Gary had planned. I have been away from old Bullworth Town for some time, Spencer-- I was in no position to stop it."
