Melody was putting the finishing touches on her classroom. It wasn't like she had much. This being her first teaching job and everything. But she did have a movie poster of Pride and Prejudice, a coffee mug that said "Sexy girls read", and Shakespeare bobble-head that she'd picked up at a small thrift store not to far from her apartment.

Melody looked around the room. The classroom was small. The chalkboard was an old, faded shade of green. The ceiling was cracked, and the desks looked as if they could probably use a good scrubbing. Melody sighed, pushing her glasses up her nose. Sometimes, you just had to go with what they gave you.

Xander bought himself and Janie drinks and pastries at the counter and settled at his favorite table, near the window. He was feeling a bit less paranoid, now; there had been no repeat performances, no other shadowy strangers shooting at him on the way home from work, or anyone else for that matter.

The plan was to have a nice, normal evening. Coffee, then a movie ... maybe dinner afterwards, if they were hungry.

He smiled at Janie as he slid her drink across the table to her. "One good thing about this place, you pretty much know your drink is already sweet enough."

When: Wednesday afternoon

It was amazing how calm life could be if you let yourself just…disappear. Since the whole suspension thing, Kat had been doing her best to stay on the straight and narrow. There hadn't been any more locker incidents. No one's photos had accidentally ended up on the school paper. As far as she'd heard, Camille hadn't pulled a Carrie at the dance (although some people had said there might be some Invasion of the Body Snatchers voodoo going around). She'd caught up on all of her school work and, for a change of pace, she was actually keeping a little bit ahead in her classes. It was the kind of life most people could be really happy with. No drama.

Kat was bored to tears. She couldn't explain to her brother what was wrong. Her Watcher, well, she was starting to think he was just clueless when it came to teenage girls. And her friends? Sure, she'd made a couple, but it wasn't like she could be all, "Hi, I'm Kat and I kill monsters. Yay! Girl Power! Like Xena, without the horse and the lesbian overtones. Oh, and I'll probably die before I ever turn eighteen, but I still have to suffer through high school. Go me!" to just anyone.

So she kept to herself mostly. Like now. She still had twenty minutes before her lunch period was over and instead of crowding into the cafeteria or chilling with her BFFs at a table in the quad, she was sitting under a tree outside the library, skimming through yet another book of tactical maneuvers Harrison had loaned to her.
