Who: Kevin and Lilly Where: Eden When: Thursday night
Kevin Van Warren was at his usual nightly hangout, the goth/techno club known as Eden. His attire for the night was a black, denim-leather hybrid slacks/shirt combo that had leather straps crisscrossing around his chest, neck, and arms. He wore black nail polish, and heavy black eyeliner. For now, he merely stood at the bar, sipping at a Diet Coke, watching everyone else dancing. Irene hadn't arrived yet, so... for now? He was just enjoying watching everyone else writhing to the music.
Lilly was feeling more than a bit paranoid as of late. Of course, her best friend had been turned into a demon, so she really couldn't help but feel like that. She still kept that cross in her pocket and wore her Star of David around her neck, but she still didn't feel that great being out. However, she felt that the others needed to know. She went to Eden, praying that Paige wouldn't be there, but hoping to find Irene or even her boyfriend. When she sat Kevin at the bar, she walked over. "Kevin?" She sat down beside him. "Can we talk?"
Kevin blinked a little when he saw Lilly sit down, and talk to him. He'd seen her a few times, but, while the girl had never been MEAN to him, she'd never actually attempted conversation, either. "....yeah? What's up, Lilly?" He had a feeling what this was about though... he'd heard about Paige through a number of sources now, but figured he'd let her get this out anyway.
Lilly didn't usually attempt conversations with anyone. She just wasn't too talkative. However, this was a different situation. "I was wondering if you had seen Paige lately." She certainly hoped not. However, if he did, he probably wouldn't be here right now. "She...she seemed to have been turned into a vampire."
Kevin nodded, taking a deep breath. "No, I haven't seen her yet." He forced a little smile. "Ginny called Irene that night you were with her... had her come tell me and Chloe immediately. We're all on the lookout. Also, Chloe and Irene are gonna work on some kind of spell to keep her away from your home."
She nodded. At least he seemed on the up and up, which meant that Irene was as well. "I was kind of out of it that night. I don't know who Ginny actually got ahold of."
"It's... a bad situation, no doubt." He looked down, at the bar. "For the first time, I'm GLAD Lucy left town. Last thing I need is to be worried about TWO sisters."
She nodded when he said that. "Look, I never said anything in particular about Lucy, but I never defended her, either. I'm sorry about that. Maybe if I had said something, maybe Paige would have backed off. I shouldn't have let her get so out of hand."
"No worries, ok?" He looked at her, total goodness and friendliness in his eyes. "No hard feelings, trust me." He shook his head. "Hell... if Paige was capable of being sorry... I'd probably even forgive HER. It;s just... my nature, I guess."
She sighed. "I think that, maybe, once upon a time, she might have been able," Lilly said, shrugging just a tad. "That would have been a long time ago. I don't know what made her so bitter toward the world, though."
"Just... the best thing any of us can do now is learn from the mistakes SHE made, you know?" He looked into her eyes, his tone as serious as it gets. "I mean... we can all stand to not take ourselves so seriously, you know?"
"I suppose we can do that," Lilly said to him. She flagged down the bartender and ordered herself a beer. She definitely needed a drink. A lot of drinks, to be honest, but she knew that would probably cause a lot more harm than good right now. "So, other than protect our homes, what do we do? I mean, I've never had to deal with something like this before."
"Not a whole hell of a lot." He admitted, giving a nervous grin. "This is where it comes in handy to have friends capable of defending you."
"So...where would I get a set of these friends?" Lilly joked. "Do I hire them out of the phone book or something like that?"
This time, he had to say what he was thinking. He couldn't hold it back. "Then maybe it's time you made friends with my sister's band." He finished his soda, setting the glass down. "Almost every girl in the band is more than capable of handling herself, and they know a LOT of others who can as well."
She sighed. "One of the girls in your sister's band is partially responsible for this." She turned and looked at Kevin. "I don't know how much to believe anything that Paige said, but she said that Meredith Delany tried to kill her by draining her and throwing her in a dumpster. The only reason that she didn't die from it was before some other vampire found her and sired her instead of letting her die."
"Shit." Kevin rarely swore, but he was afraid of this. "Meredith.... tries. She's not like most of the others like her. She tries to be good. But she ahs the same urges they ALL have... and I'm not excusing her... but I think someone with that kind of a dark side can only be pushed so far."
"I think Paige went over to Avarice to 'push' that dark side," Lilly admitted. "I'm not saying that Paige deserved this, but she had...has a way about her that manages to bring out the worst in people that she turns that anger on."
"If it matters..." he knew how stupid this sounded. "If push comes to shove... Meredith will defend us."
"Well, since this is sort of her fault, then I hope that you're right," Lilly said to him. Maybe Meredith didn't sire her, but, if she hadn't of tried to drain her, this still wouldn't have happened.
He reached over, and placed a hand atop one of hers, patting it soothingly. "Our friends will take care of this. Have some faith in them... I do."
"I hope that you're right," Lilly said. She still felt a little skeptical, but she didn't really have much else to believe in right now, so she had to go with it.
"All we have is our faith, really." He didn't mean in religion, either. He'd long ago given up on that stuff. "But we can be here for each other. ALL of us. If there's anything I can do, just ask me, alright?"
She nodded. "I'll keep that in mind." She took a long sip of her beer when the bartender brought it over. "Right now, we all need each other more than ever."
"For what it's worth..." he needed to say it, because he KNEW damned well nobody else had thought to. "I'm sorry to hear about Paige. I know she was your friend... and that has to hurt."
She nodded again. "Thanks." It had been the first time anyone had said that. It would probably be the last, too. She knew that she would probably be the only person that would mourn the loss of her friend.
"If you... you know... ever need to talk about it, you know how to find me." He suspected Lilly wasn't the type to go pouring her heart out to anyone, but... he needed to make sure she knew she COULD.
"Thanks," she said. She really wasn't the type to pour her heart out to anyone. She quickly finished off her beer. "Tell your sister to stay indoors at night," she said, standing up from the bar. "And her friends, too. And their friends, for that matter. Paige is on a rampage."
"Duly noted." He replied, nodding to her. He felt bad... she seemed like far too pretty of a girl to be so sad and bitter. "Just... remember what I said. All of it."
"I will," she said. "I should get going. I don't feel comoftable going out at night."
"Understandable. Keep in touch, ok?" He asked, a tone of meaning to his voice.
