Family Bonding
Who: Baily and Brandon
Where: Avarice
When: Tuesday Night, Late
Avarice was closed for the night, but Baily hadn't left quite yet. No, she was going to enjoy one good beer before she cleared out of here. Tonight had been a good night, though. Good crowd that responded well to her mixes, no shitheads requesting rap, so she couldn't bitch too much about it. She was just going to enjoy her Bud Light before she headed out for the night.
And when Brandon saw her as he was getting ready to leave, he had to mess with her. So, sneaking up quietly behind her, he put on his best wannabe-ghetto voice: "Yo, baby, why ain't you play no Biggie?"
She sighed. Some people knew just how to push her buttons. "If you were anyone else, you'd be laid out on the floor right now," she pointed out to him, spinning around in her chair.
"Heh heh." Brandon hopped onto the bar stool next to her and grinned. "Sorry, had to, just HAD to. So, how's my suddenly human-loving cousin?"
"Wouldn't go so far as to call myself human loving," Baily pointed out. "Don't people fucking realize that we're a rock club? As a rock club, we don't play fucking rap."
"Well..." He loved pushing her buttons, but he DID have a point here... "Public Enemy did that song with Anthrax... so that kinda connects them."
She growled. "Still not rock," she pointed out.
"Well, then this should make you smile..." He said with a chuckle. "Evidently the concert Limp Bizkit was going to play here is canceled on account of the singer hitting on Meredith, and our amazing cousin Benjamin punching him in the MOUTH."
Baily cracked up. "Seriously? How many people hit on her a night? What was the difference for the night that Fred Durst hit on her?"
"According to Ben, when I bailed him out..." he sighed, doing a face palm. "IT WAS FRED DURST."
Baily laughed again and shook her head. "Wow...I don't get the difference. Besides, Mere can more than take care of herself." Mere could rip out Mr. Durst's spine if she felt the need.
"Well, afterward, Ben said something about how he doesn't mind when rock stars hit on his girl... as long as they're GOOD." He laughed. "So that explains that."
She laughed. "He's kind of got a point there. I think he would have been much more accommodating if it had been someone like Nikki Sixx or someone like that."
"Yeah. If it was Nikki Sixx, I think we'd be pulling MEREDITH off of HIM. She loves those 80's rock guys, I swear." He said with a laugh. "As opposed to you, who I would swear was asexual if you weren't so hung up on that little human boy."
"That she does," Baily said with a slight smile. If Mere found Nikki Sixx, they'd have an undead rocker on their hands before the night was through, more than likely. "I'm not asexual. I'm just picky. Besides, you've got your little hang ups as well. I saw your little Prom date. She had a very interesting dress, if I do say so myself."
"Hey, Catherine's a Slayer though. Only way I get stronger or tougher than that is when I go full-on monster." He had a point, that time...
Baily shrugged about that. "I can more than protect myself. I don't need any sort of person to be stronger than me. Do you need a girl to protect you?"
"Nope. Not at all." Then he grinned. "It's kinda hot though, that she CAN."
She rolled her eyes. "Boys are so easy, sometimes," she said with a laugh.
"Notice how much I'm NOT denying that..." He said with a wink. "Hey, Ben's not the only girl-crazy guy in the family... most of us just aren't as blatant about it."
"Well, you at least seem to think that one girl can be enough," Baily said to him. "Then again, one person doesn't seem to be enough for his girlfriend, either, so whatever."
"You know... I CANNOT be the only one who's noticed that those two are 110% perfect for each other." He snickered there. "God, I never thought I'd actually be FOND of a vamp."
Baily just shrugged. "Amazing, isn't it?" It was kind of strange to see a vampire and a werewolf dating, but it seemed to work for them, so who cared?
"Admit it... you like her too." Brandon said with some semblence of sureness. "I know you, and if you DIDN'T, you'd have ripped her apart first time she came near your DJ booth."
"So what if I do?" Baily asked him. "She's a decent chick once you get past the undeadness." Which was a lot for Baily to say about anyone, really. "I'm surprised that your girlfriend hasn't went after her. Isn't that her job or something?"
"Well, Catherine is very smart. And she knows that sometimes, having an undead ally can be a hell of an advantage." Aw. He was getting a little protective there.
"Well, that is very true." Baily wondered if he had to point that out to her. She would probably never know, though. She took a sip of her drink. "So, what are you still doing here, anyway?"
"Eh. Got bored, and I told Catherine to meet me here after patrol tonight. I'm getting worried... those Wolfram & Hart guys are really bringing the pain against the Slayers these days..." he growled, showing the wolf inside. "And I fear that I might not have much of the family behind me in wanting to help. You know how they try to be kind of the untouchable go-to guys for both sides..."
"Yeah, I know." She had seen at least one of those types in here on a different night or two. Kind of a country looking boy, actually. He never came near her, though. "I know that Ben talks to one of them, but who am I to judge the company that someone keeps?" She understood where he was coming from.
"So help me... if it comes to a choice?" He turned deadly serious there. "I choose Catherine over the family in a minute."
She arched an eyebrow slightly, but, in the end, she wasn't surprised. "I'd rather protect Derek than keep the family's neutrality intact myself."
"I'm hoping it won't come to that. Meredith is bound to side with them... and you KNOW Ben will do what it takes to protect her. And Ben's become... almost the 'godfather' of the family anymore." He said it, almost sounding more like he was trying to calm himself down.
"Hopefully it doesn't come to any sort of needing to pick sides or whatever, though," Baily said to him. And Mere...Meredith might just be the type to just up and bolt if things got too hot. That was something Baily herself predicted. She could be wrong, but who knew?
"I just... Baily, I'm really happy, for the first time in YEARS, you know?" He looked at her, as if hoping she'd understand.
"I do know," she admitted. She was truly happy for the first time in ever as well, so she really knew how he was feeling about this.
He extended a hand to her. "Family AND partners? No matter what?"
She reached out and shook his hand without a second thought. "No matter what. Gotta protect what's really important, after all."
