Don't Look Too Hard Ash!
Who: Ash and Buffy
Where: Avarice
When: Monday Night
Deciding to get out for an evening, to let his mind wander from all the stress he'd been under, Ash headed to Avarice. He didn't much care for Ben (although he suspected it had more to do with him being with Meredith than anything), but the wolf always made sure he had his own little table in a dark corner. So, dressed in some o the SLIGHTLY less dark colors Buffy had picked out for him (mostly black and navy blue, with a little bit of white), Ash stepped quietly into the club, walking to the bar for a soda.
Buffy decided to finally take the advice that everyone and their mother seemed to be throwing her way. She was supposed to be having fun and being fancy free. She was eighteen, after all. While she was a Slayer, she wasn't the only one. Sure, her dating like was, well, not exactly stellar. Of course, the best way to fix this was to go out and meet people. Right now, she was out on the dance floor, dancing along to some song that she didn't know the name of, but it had a really good bass line, and that was all she cared about at the moment.
Ash was just starting to admire a hot blond out on the dance floor (hey, he was dating someone, but there was no rule against looking!), when he noticed who it was. Buffy was finally having fun. With a smile, he looked upwards. "Whoever's listening to me up there? THANK YOU." He walked out onto the dance floor, walking over to her. "Looking good, Buffy."
She looked over her shoulder and saw Ash standing behind her, wearing something that she had picked out for him, even. Her face lit up with a full smile when she saw him. "Thanks," she said. "Want to join?"
Aw, hell. Why not, right? They were friends. Friends danced together, didn't they? Sure they did. He began to move with her, smiling. "So what brought this on?"
She started to move with him as well. "Everyone kept telling me to pick myself up by my bootstraps and actually start acting like I was at the beginning of my life," she said, still smiling. "Well, they didn't put it that way, but it's what everyone means, right? I guess I finally decided to start doing it."
"It's good to see, really." Hell, this new, optimistic Buffy made it far easier to notice just how attractive she was. She was practically glowing. "Plus, if you're happy, it means my training can't be making you TOO miserable."
"It's good to be doing it," she admitted to him. She was actually having a lot of fun, and enjoying herself for the first time in a while. "Nah, you're training's not too bad, anyway."
"Good., Neither is your learning." He said with a laugh, feeling almost a little bad by how he was feeling here. He had a girlfriend, and Buffy was his ex's SISTER, for God's sake. Plus? Mr. Giles would probably pitch a FIT. "So am I the onyl one thrilled to be graduated?"
"Not at all," she said with a laugh. "I'm so thrilled to be done with high school that I could scream it from the rooftops!" She giggled again. "Sorry, just feeling a little on the giddy side tonight."
"I like it." He said, meaning it more than even he realized. "Of course, lookin' like that, you're gonna give every other girl in here a complex..."
"I like it, too," she said. She was a little amazed that she could even get this happy after the year that she had been having, but here she was, dancing with Ash of all freaking people in the middle of a club and having the time of her life. She still needed to talk to Dawn about him being her Watcher now. Plus...totally having bad feelings right now. "You really think I'd give other girls a complex right now?"
"Buffy... you look awesome tonight. Really." He said with not a hint of flattery in his voice. He meant every word. "Happiness looks good on you."
"Well, thank you," she said, blushing just a tad as she kept dancing for the moment. It was good to actually believe that for once. Not that she thought she was ugly, but, well, her self esteem had taken a hit with the whole thing with Derek.
"I'll tell you the same exact thing I told Lucy about her and Chloe: between you and your sister? Genetics were VERY kind to your family." He laughed.
She smiled. Yeah, Dawn totally seemed to know that she was hot, considering all the cute guys she had pictures with while she was in Europe. It was nice to have a boy tell her the same. "They were."
"Wow... you... you got some moves on the dance floor, girl." He said with possibly a little more enthusiasm that he'd wanted to show.
She kept smiling at him. A part of her wondered if her face could fall off from all the damn smiling. "You've got a few moves yourself, Watcher," she said with a wink.
Think about Lucy, you jerk. That was the main thought going through his head as he felt his flirty banter with his charge start to take a slightly more serious bend. So, he TRIED to take the conversation to a safer place. "Anything in your training that you've been interested in working on?"
"I don't know," Buffy said. She was actually kind of glad for the safer topic as well. She was certainly not supposed to be getting flirty with him like this. "I think I need to work a little more on my flexibility."
"Your fl..." God DAMMIT! His mind immediately went to bad-place again. "Yeah. We... we gotta work on... on that. Yeah."
The song ended and Buffy started to fan herself. "Mind grabbing a seat with me? I'm parched." Her shirt was starting to stick to her because of the sweat.
"Y-Yeah... I think... I think that'd be a good idea." He walked ahead of her by a few feet, trying to calm the situation down a bit. Nothing had happened, they were still merely friends and co-workers. Now the trick was to KEEP it that way before someone got hurt. Someone meaning Lucy. He'd never forgive himself if he hurt her. Finally, he got to an empty table and without really thinking, used his magic to swiftly pull a chair out for her.
Buffy jumped just a tad when the chair popped out on its own. Then she remembered that Ash was all with the magic and he had more than likely done it and sat down like it was the most normal thing in the world. "God, I'd kill for some water right now."
And a nice cold shower, he thought. "Gotta say, I love the music they play here..." he said, aiming for the most innocent subject he could think of.
"It takes some getting used to, but yeah, I'm starting to really like it, too," she said. "Most of it has a really good beat to dance to."
"The DJs manage to find rock and metal with good dance beats, I'll give them that." He said with a smile, seriously glad to see her this way. It was like she was a new
"That's good. I'm not sure I could take nothing but screaming," she admitted. "Then again, probably wouldn't come here if they did." Even if she did kind of not like the main DJ. But who cared about that now, anyway?
"Yeah... I kinda think I'd probably enjoy myself more at Eden..." he chuckled to himself. "I guess I'm just loyal to too many people here."
"I've been there," Buffy said. "It's actually pretty cool. I'm like, the worst goth ever, but it's still pretty fun."
Ash studied her for a moment, then actually snickered. "Buffy... you're good at a lot of things. You're a great friend. You're becoming a hell of a Slayer. But a goth? That would be like me trying to be a professional wrestler."
"Nah, I'm not good at Goth anyway," Buffy said, smiling back at him. "I look really good in black, though."
He looked at her, before having to agree with her. "You... you really do look good in black, I'll give you that."
She smiled at him. "Thanks," she said. "So, how have you been doing lately. You look good in colors, by the way."
"Yeah, thanks." He snickered and gave her a mocking glare. "Next time I let you take me shopping, I'm insisting we at least stop at Victoria's Secret so I can have some scenery for a few minutes."
She laughed. She wondered how he would react if she offered to model some of the merchandise for him, but figured that it would freak him out a little just the same. "We'll see about that. You're a pretty good shopper, though."
"Well, if I'm shopping for video games, or books, yeah, I'm dandy." He snorted. "Still, you should look at the guys when we're out. They all glare at me, like they think I'm your boyfriend. Check it out, it'll do WONDERS for your self-esteem."
She giggled. "I'll keep that in mind," she said. "You know what? I should go out with you and Lucy one night. You could have a pretty girl on each arm and be the pimp of the clubs!"
"That might be too much hotness for one man to handle." He said, before really realizing he was admitting he found her hot.
She just smiled for a moment and blushed just a tad. "Well, maybe," she said finally, "but you'd be the talk of the club."
"That I would. Every man would want to kick my ass. Or possibly shake my hand."
"Maybe both, even," she said with a laugh. "So, now you're a high school graduate. What are you planning on doing now?"
"Well... I'm going to take some training classes at the new Watcher's Academy Mr Giles is setting up, and mostly concentrate on training you." He smiled, looking honestly content with this. "Plenty of time for other things later."
"That's true," she said. "That's actually a lot, both with the Watcher training and the training of me. Well, I'm getting better, but I'm still a handful." She was smiling when she said that, though, so it was pretty obvious that she was joking a bit.
Luckily, he wasn't. "A handful? Please. I don't think any watcher could have asked for a better student. All it took was getting to know you."
"Honestly, all it took was getting to know you, too," she admitted to him. "I was totally bias before, but now I'm much better."
"Well... all that crap with Dawnie..." and no, he didn't catch himself still calling her what he used to call her when they dated. "It really sucked. Luckily I've done a lot of growing up since then."
"She's done a bit of growing up, too," Buffy said with a smile. "So have I, although mine's been more recent."
"Now... with any luck, some extremely lucky guy will realize that too." Ash said with gentle sweetness.
"Well, I got my fingers crossed on that one," she said, holding up a hand full of crossed fingers playfully just for effect.
"Trust me. If they have a brain in their body, they'll be lining up." He said, laughing as he caught himself sort-of gazing into her eyes. BAD!
"Well, that's nice to hear," Buffy admitted. It was making her blush a little with all of these compliments, but she certainly wasn't going to tell him to stop!
Ok, As had to put a stop to this, before one of them did something he'd surely regret later. "Well... I need to get home, unfortunately. I promised Mr. Giles I'd take care of doing your first formal evaluation for him."
She nodded. "That'll probably take a while," she joked. "So, see you for training tomorrow?"
"Definitely." He said. He needed to talk to Lucy, ASAP, and get these thoughts out of his head.
