Messiah Finally Has Some Competition...
Who: Lilly and Paige
Where: Eden
When: Tuesday Night
Paige Bennett was sitting on the stage at Eden, staring out at the currently empty floor. She knew that in a few hours, the place would be packed, and she and her band would be onstage, bringing the proverbial house down. The sexy, slender, tattooed brunette wore low-riding jeans, torn on each knee, and a red baby tee emblazoned with her band, Coma White's logo on it as she tuned her guitar.
Lilly Maymin walked out from the backstage area to see Paige sitting on the stage, turning her guitar. She had already set up her drums for the night and, until sound checks, she couldn't really do anything with her stuff. She flopped down beside Paige instead and said, "Hey."
"Sup girlie?" Paige drawled, absently playing a few chords of an old Black Sabbath song as they talked. "How's it going, kiddo?"
"Going fine," Lilly said to her. She started pulling at her shoelaces. Something to keep her hands busy. She liked to keep her hands busy. She tended to fidget or drum her fingers when she was at rest. "Going fine. How are you?"
"Enjoying the quiet. In a little while, I'll be having to act like I'm flattered that every dickhead male in the club is picturing me naked. Ah well... as long as we get their money..." She shrugged, giving that devious smile of hers.
She cringed a little at the thought of every man picturing her naked. It wasn't that she didn't like guys...it was just that she wasn't interested in anything that would frequent clubs like this sexually. Kind of strange, really. "I'm just glad that they don't go for the drummers as easily as the rest of you guys."
"Mostly because you're hidden behind the drum kit. Well... also because I usually wear things that they fantasize about during their messiest moments." She gave a noncommittal shrug. "We gotta use this time to really establish ourself. Now that Suicide Messiah is done, what with the bitch that sings for them getting ready to have a kid... we got no real competition. The other bands out here are completely beneath us."
"I hear that they're preparing to reform, though," Lilly pointed out. "New name, a few new players, or old players, if rumors are true. That rhythm guitarist still scares the hell out of me." She gave bad vibes.
"She's a vamp. Has to be." Paige said it as casually as if she'd suggested Meredith was white. "And that drummer. WHAT IS WITH HER?" Paige laughed. "Silly bitch.. I'd like to slap her upside the head."
"Probably," was all that Lilly said about her being a vampire. No big deal, really. Just gave a bad vibe. "I think crack, personally," Lilly said about the drummer.
"I know Ginny doesn't mind them, but the girl's way too nice for her own good." The statuesque brunette stood, slinging her guitar behind her old-school style. "And I heard they have like... a little kid playing for them now. Lame."
"I think that's one of the new ones," Lilly said. "Really new, not old new." She stood up as well, brushing off her tattered jeans. She was just wearing a tank top and a pair of sneakers with it. Something comfy for her, which was another reason probably why she didn't attract so much attention in clubs.
"If I find out Delany ISN'T a vampire?" Paige grinned and made a punching motion. "I am SO gonna whip her flightly little ass."
"Good luck with that," she said. "Of course, if you whip her ass, you'll probably piss off every music person in town because of who her dad is, so actually, I'd recommend against it."
"Shit. I forgot about that." Paige then grinned, as if a light bulb had gone off above her head. "Of course... I bet it'd just irritate the HELL out of her if I got with dear old dad..."
Lilly grinned. "But then she might eat you, you know, if she is a vampire and all." Or at least kick the crap out of her. Still, sounded hilarious.
"...you are the worst fucking buzzkill alive, woman." Paige huffed, grabbing the small bottle of Jack Daniels she had sitting next to her.
Lilly just shrugged. "I didn't say you shouldn't do it. Just warning you of the consequences. Sounds funny, actually."
"Just... you know... sharpen one of your drumsticks to a point first." Paige laughed coldly, shaking her head. "Ever wonder if we're the only two normal human beings in Los Angeles?"
"I'm starting to think we are," Lilly said to her. "LA does attract all of the freaks and weirdos, you know? And to think, I just came here to play music. Almost sounds quaint."
"I think Ginny's bringing some new song she write for us to run through during warm-ups." Paige pulled a cigarette from her pocket and lit up with the natural grace of someone who'd been doing it for FAR too long. "Still can't believe that shy little thing turns into such a wild woman on stage."
"It's the shy ones that you've got to watch out for," Lilly reminded her. "Who knows what she's up to when we're not around her."
Paige's face grew dark there. She clearly adored Ginny... she just wasn't the type who admitted things like that often. "That's what worries me. Sometimes I think we're the only thing keeping her here."
Lilly arched an eyebrow. "What do you mean by that?"
"Just remember what I told you..." She arched a fine eyebrow. "About four months before we put the band together, she slit her own wrists. Since then... I've gotten her to put her agony into song instead of self-destruction."
"That's healthier, to put it into something else," she said. "Is she seeing a shrink or anything like that?"
"No... but I think the music is a good therapist for her." Paige said with a shrug. "Gives her some self-esteem."
"Then she'll be fine," Lilly assured her. "We've just got to keep playing, and I know I have every intention to do so."
"Hell... you girls are awesome musicians. I think we match up well with those other bitches, actually." She said with a vicious laugh. The girl was... brutally honest at times. "You might not be a goddamn virtuoso like Van Warren, but you're still one of the best young drummers I've heard out here. And Lori might not be quite as good as Delany... but again, she's awesome. We're gonna wipe them off the MAP."
"I think it's much more interesting when you actually have to try and still be good than just pull it out of your ass like she does, anyway," Lilly said with a slight eye roll to her.
"I wouldn't know." Paige said with a wink. Whether she was teasing or being a conceited bitch, was often hard to tell. "Want some?" she asked, holding out the bottle of booze. Sure, Lilly was only 19, but who gave a fuck, really?
Lilly never cared about teasing. It always just rolled off her back. She took the bottle and took a sip before passing it back. She started to fiddle with her laces again. "So, what should we do until Ginny arrives, anyway?"
Paige thought about it, then shrugged. "Want to help me set up the merch table? Be a lot easier with two of us..."
"Sure," she said, standing up. "Let's go ahead and get to that then."
