Holy Mother of Hell
Who: Skylar and Ami
Where: Skylar and Pat's House
When: Monday Evening
Oh dear sweet goddess. What the ever loving hell had just happened? One moment, Skylar was reading a book on her bed. Then, her cat Artemis walked into the room and meowed at her. Suddenly everything slammed into her brain. All of her memories of Gwen. Gwen, who purchased her the kitten as a wedding present. Their entire wedding, watching Wesley blushing as he walked Gwen down the isle to some rap song. Once she was able to sort things out, she collapsed on her bed, and started sobbing.
Ami stood outside the front door to the house she'd stayed in for a brief few weeks. It felt so much like a strange, hostile place now... it actually scared her. With a hesitant pause, she finally mustered up the courage to ring the doorbell.
Skylar managed to finally drag herself off of the bed after she heard the doorbell ring for the third time. She wasn't sure who it would be right now, of all the godforsaken times, but something told her to answer it. She opened the front door.
Ami was standing there, a look of horror on her face as she saw the redness, the tears, in Skylar's face. "ohmygawd... SkyMom..." She just stepped in, wrapping the shorter girl in a tight hug.
Another click: Ami. Daughter from the future. Daughter she was no pregnant with, heavily pregnant with. Skylar just started sobbing again, wrapping her arms around Ami. "What happened?"
"It's... a long, long story." She felt her heart breaking... Skylar could barely speak. "Can I come in?"
Skylar stepped back from the door. Some instincts just don't go away. "I think I'm up for listening to a long story, Ami," she said.
"Well... ok. When I came back..." she walked in, just letting herself collapse onto the sofa. "I think... I accidentally changed TOO much. And somehow made the time stream kinda fold in on itself. The world was ending, SkyM... Skylar... and it was all MY fault. And Gwen gave herself to the... the Powers That Be, I guess... to save all of us. To hold all the pieces together. And as far as I can tell... before she did, she made them promise to erase her from everyone's memories, to save you all the pain."
Skylar sighed. "Gwen would do something stupid like that," she said with a slight smile. The girl had been as hardheaded as they come, after all. Always doing what she thought would save the world at the expense of herself. "Then why do I remember her now?"
"That... umm.... yeah." Ami gave a wince and bit her bottom lip. "That'd kinda be my fault too. I begged the Powers to bring her back, because without her here, Wesley and Andrew seemed to be falling apart. And instead of bringing her back, I guess all they did was restore our memories of her."
"Stupid PTB," Skylar said with another sigh. "They never were good at actually doing something right. If they were doing things right, this wouldn't be necessary at all. Wesley and Andrew would be fine."
"....you gonna be ok?" She asked, knowing full well that while Skylar was always good at hiding her pain, she had to be breaking into a million pieces inside.
"I don't know, maybe?" Skylar answered honestly. She reached down and stroked Artemis, who had followed her downstairs. "It's hard to tell."
"Is there anything I can do to help?" She asked, feeling pretty horrible.
Skylar shrugged. "If there's a way to bring Gwen back, I'd like to hear it, but I'm not sure there is one."
"If there was... I think they would have done it, when I practically begged." Ami sighed again, closing her eyes. "I'm so sorry... I... I took her from you."
"You didn't take her, Ami," Skylar said, trying to soothe her. "If anything, they took her. It wasn't really even a matter of taking. She went to save us all."
"We'll get through this... together." Ami was holding back tears herself at this point. "I just got you back... I'm not gonna lose you again."
Skylar wrapped her arms around Ami again. "I'm not going to lose you, either."
