Chatting in a Record Store
Who: Delilah and Jeremy
Where: Downtown Records
When: Monday Afternoon
"I still don't know what the hell Steve Harris was thinking..." Jeremy said, looking at a vinyl copy of Iron Maiden's 'The X-Factor'. "I mean, Blaze Bayley? Seriously? That makes Dio replacing Ozzy seem almost a GOOD idea."
"Replacing Ozzy with a syphilitic cat sounds like a good idea in comparison to that," Delilah told him with a slight grin as she sat on the sofa.
"Exactly. Bayley just sounds like a kick to the nuts given life." Jeremy sighed, setting the album back where it went, then grabbing a bootleg concert CD and heading toward the store's register. "You know, I missed this."
She was so glad that this store had the presence of mind to stick a sofa in it. She was give out after her training session with Sin today. That girl could kick some butt when she wanted to. "I've missed this, too. We definitely need to do this more often."
"We used to hang out, well... constantly. I think a few of our peers referred to us as Siamese twins, actually." He laughed, handing over the money for the CD and heading over to sit on the sofa with her. "I love these little shops..."
Those were some of the nicer terms, but who cared about that? "Well, we were in the same place all the time, though, then we were separated by a bloody ocean, remember?"
"At least we're both here now. I got a beautiful girlfriend, a great student, and now I have my best friend again, too. For once? Things are looking up." He smiled, giving her a play-punch to the shoulder.
"Things actually do look like they are looking up for you, don't they?" The man who had so much doom and gloom over his life was actually in a sunny disposition for once. Does that mean the world is ending?
"I never got to really ask you, how's your student?" He was trying not to use the proper terminology in public. "You girls getting along alright?"
"They are both getting along fine right now," Delilah said to him. "I think Buffy feels a little like a third wheel, but we both try our best to make her feel more at home with us."
"I think they're supposed to have someone here for her soon." He thought for a minute, tapping his chin with his finger. "I wonder, though... with so many 'students' running around, if it might be more prudent to have two assigned to each of us."
"I hope they do, and I hope that it's someone that she actually gets along with." Buffy was a sweet girl, so she hoped that she wouldn't get stuck with some asshole. "It might be better, but they probably believe in each girl having the undivided attention of one of us each."
"Well... at least she won't get stuck with Baxter... she's finally here, and they stuck Skylar James with her." He laughed, shaking his head. "God, she was the WORST back at the Academy. It was like having a high school hall monitor around 24/7"
Delilah snorted. "Like the high school monitor with a stick up her ass. I wish she would learn that you don't need to be a bitch to get the job done. The girl can actually like you."
"I still can't believe you never beat the shit out of her, what with that temper of yours." He smirked, remembering the one or two times he actually had to hold her back.
"God, I wanted to, but I didn't want to get kicked out, either," Delilah said, although that didn't always stop her from loosing it at the woman. "I wasn't going to get kicked out for her sake."
"You picking anything up?" He looked over to the racks of albums and CDs. "Place actually has some decent bootlegs.."
"I'm thinking about it," Delilah said. "Not sure if I have the energy to actually get up and look through them right now." Training two Slayers might be more prudent, but it was draining.
"Catherine seems very fond of Cynthia. I think she gets a kick out of knowing that their teachers are as close as they are." He smiled, taking his CD out of the bag to look at it.
"They probably do," Delilah said. "I'm glad that some of the girls are as close as they are. At least they really aren't alone in this now. No more 'one girl in all the world' nonsense."
"Well... that whole scenario is gone now, and now these girls actually have a fighting chance. Thank god." He put his CD back in the bag, and looked at her. "You want to come over for dinner tonight? You can bring Cynthia if you want. Iris said she'd make sure there was enough..."
"Sure, sounds like fun," Delilah said. "Mind if I bring Buffy along as well?" Wouldn't want her to feel left out, after all.
"I don't see why it'd be a problem." He added, feeling a little bad for the blond Slayer now, as well. "She's not adjusting very well to life in LA, is she? Catherine said she rarely sees Buffy socializing at school."
Delilah shook her head. "I'm not sure what it is. She's pretty, sweet, and smart. I don't know why she seems to be floundering a bit as far as LA is concerned."
"Hopefully, whoever gets assigned to her will help her come out of this shell a bit..." He sighed, thinking a bit. "Would it seem like... rudeness, or even being inappropriate if we asked our girls to try, I don't know... hanging out with her a bit? Maybe including her in whatever it is they do?"
"It probably wouldn't be such a bad idea," Delilah said. "I just wouldn't want her to figure out that we asked them to hang out with her more. She might take it the wrong way. Girls can be sensitive like that."
"Well, yeah... but Catherine seems to at least genuinely like her, so... it's not like we'd be forcing them..."
"No, it wouldn't exactly be forcing them to do so," Delilah said. She just didn't want to hurt Buffy's feelings or anything like that.
"Besides, it's kind of like a cool legacy thing. The watchers were great friends at that age, and now our slayers are too." He said with a chuckle, wondering if the girls would remain friends for years the way he and Delilah have.
She laughed at the thought of that. "That does sound like a good dream, for them to be friends as long as we have."
"You've been a great friend, Del. I'm just glad Iris understands, and isn't jealous. God knows, with what she's been through, I'd understand if she was." He sighed, sitting back for a minute.
"Really? She's been through a lot in that department?" Iris was sweet, so Delilah could only feel that Jeremy was very lucky to have found her.
"Yeah. Her husband, um... I dunno. I don't know the guy, but I guess he fell for a girl in another band, and, you can guess the rest."
Delilah cringed. "Damn, that's got to sting," she said with a wince. "Well, I'm glad that the two of you actually found each other, circumstances as crazy as they were."
"Yeah. Me too. For the record, he ended up with the singer of that band we went to see, Suicide Messiah." Jeremy looked at her for a moment, briefly surprised that neither of them had ever tried for more than friendship. He was glad now... but he still wondered.
"Really? The pinked haired girl?" Delilah asked. "I'd have picked Iris out of the two, but I guess that's just me."
"Well, I'm a bit biased... but..." he laughed. "I guess maybe they just had the whole musician thing in common..." He had no idea how anyone could NOT choose Iris, over pretty much anyone. But as he said. Biased.
"Maybe we're both a little biased." Delilah adored Iris because she managed to save Jeremy from his own downward fall into what would eventually be suicide by Russian Roulette. Plus she was a nice, fairly normal girl who still understood what went on in their world. Couldn't ask for much more than that. Plus she made fantastic biscuits. "Still, I don't get it."
"Well..." he laughed, shaking his head. "Part of me also thinks she was that wild side he was missing from his life. I mean, me and Iris, we're both sort of mellow types... but I think maybe McConnell needed someone with more of a wild side."
"Maybe," Delilah said with a final shrug. "Worked out well in the end though, didn't it?" Of course, it took a death to do so, but everything was fine now, wasn't it?
"It sure did. Del... at the risk of you mocking me..." He felt a true, content smile work onto his face. "I've never been so in love in my life. Not even back when..." he still couldn't get himself to talk about his old relationship.
"Well, I'm glad to hear it," Delilah said. "I don't know of anyone who deserves it more than you do."
"Well, there's always the jaded yet wonderful gal sitting by me..." he laughed, wondering silently if Delilah would lose a bit of her sharp, almost knife like edge if she ever found love.
"Eh, we'll see about that." Truthfully, Delilah had held out for a while for Jeremy back when they were younger, and still couldn't help but compare guys to him, even if she knew and accepted that that ship had long since sailed. None yet had measured up.
"So... is Stone turning out to be an alright student? Catherine seems to think highly of her, although she says the kid's a little on... the clumsy side." He said, changing the subject before she could get all broody.
"She's doing alright so far," Delilah said. "Most of her clumsiness doesn't go toward her Slayer abilities. Now, ask her to walk across the room, and you might have a few problems."
He snickered, just picturing the badly-dressed girl trying to be ferocious. "Were you and I ever really that age?"
"Sometimes I'm not so sure," Delilah said. "We certainly had much less interesting hair than our girls do now."
"You noticed that too, huh?" He laughed. "Both of our girls look more like they should be at a rave or a concert than fighting the undead."
"Maybe the shock of their looks will give them a slight edge over vampires, don't you think?" Delilah asked with a grin.
"You know... that's actually a distinct possibility." He replied, holding back a laugh. "Hell... I admit... with the hair, the tattoos, all that... I thought Catherine was going to be some bad-ass rebel."
Delilah snorted. "If only you knew that you'd get the ultra-polite partial Communist that you got," she said with a slight laugh.
"Hey. No complaints here. I pretty much hit the Slayer Jackpot." He said with a proud grin. "Catherine's the best."
"Cynthia's pretty damn good herself," Delilah said. "Not everyone can start out with a wonderful work ethic like she has."
"....is this going to turn into a 'my-slayer-can-beat-up-your-slayer' debate?" He asked playfully.
"Nah, I don't think so," Delilah said. "Let's just agree that, as far as it could have gone, we hit Slayer jackpots."
