Meeting a New Colleague
Who: Isabella, introducing Caetlyn Ashwood
Where: The Hyperion
When: Saturday, April 2nd
Given that she was in something of a good mood, Isabella let Bethany duck out of training early to do what... teenagers do and made her way down to the main entrance, making sure that everything was okay and checking the exits out of habit. The brunette was dressed in tight faded blue jeans and a green collared shirt, open to expose her bosom, her hair tied back in a tight ponytail for a change. She had made an appointment with a new Watcher in town, but... it wasn't for a while yet, so she contented herself with tidying the nearby area with a small smile on her face as she thought of Rebecca.
Caet happened to arrive a bit earlier then scheduled, and while Isabella was checking and straightening things out, the Aussie Watcher walked into The Hyperion in a pair of dark blue jeans, western style shirt, tan colored duster that sweep lightly over the ground as she walked, and cowboy hat.
Well, one thing was certain. Caetlyn damn sure wasn't in Oz anymore. Straightening out, Isabella arched an eyebrow at the other woman, having not expected someone so... distinctly Australian on first glance. She smiled briefly, "Miss Ashwood, I presume?"
If someone would have mentioned that to her, Caet would have told them quite seriously that she was as far from Oz as one could get. "You must be Isabella Delallo." Caet returned in an accent that was distinctly Australian. "I hope I'm not too early and inconveniencing you." The blond Watcher added a bit apologetically to the woman.
"Not at all. You caught me at a quiet time," Isabella replied, leading Caet over to a couch so that they could sit comfortably. "I trust that your trip here wasn't entirely unpleasant," she added, knowing how long flights could be.
"To be quite truthful, my trip into the United States went quite smoothly." The blond answered following Isabella the short distance over to the couch unable to keep her gaze from dipping down and then up again as she checked the other Watcher's backside out. Definitely a fine view from behind. Caetlyn had slept a good portion of the flight in and was now was actually feeling reinvigorated.
"That's good to hear," Isabella replied, trying to keep the conversation polite and civil. Although, being with Rebecca had made her a much calmer person, and certainly more willing to listen. She crossed one jean-clad thigh over the other and turned to face Caetlyn as they spoke. "As Mr. Giles no doubt told you, we've had an abundance of Slayers the last few years, but hardly any Watchers, which is why we've asked you to join us here."
Caet sat down on the couch by Isabella and slipped her hat off to set it on the cushion of the piece of furniture to her other side. "He had, in fact, during our last phone conversation." It had taken a little bit of persuasion on the side of Rupert Giles to coax Caet out of "retirement" and leave Australian to help with the over abundance of Slayers they now found themselves with. "I just hope I'm not too rusty at the whole Slayer training thing." Caet smiled teasingly to her fellow Watcher.
Isabella chuckled and shook her head. "It's a lot like riding a bike, I assure you. It's not something that you ever really forget." It was funny how Isabella spoke to different people now, wasn't it? Watchers - she tried to keep things civil and to the point, Slayers – she was stern and mostly unreadable, but where Rebecca was concerned? She was as cute as a kitten. "Unfortunately, the girl that we've paired you with has decided to go for a run, but I'm sure you'll meet her soon enough. Do you have any questions?"
"I like to hear about her." Caet, though, did fine it curious that her appointed Slayer chose that hour to have gone for a run. The blond tucked away that thought as it really had no relevance in their conversation. Caet would rather find out all she could about her Slayer before their initial meeting.
"I could tell you what I know," Isabella replied. While she had been accepting of Melaka at first, they hadn't really had the chance to talk lately. She'd noticed that the young woman seemed to spend a lot of time with Gabriel, but wasn't going to jump to conclusions about that. "She's a time-displaced Slayer from two hundred years in the future. She tells me that she never had prophetic dreams, which makes her... unusual, but hard to read in battle, which is useful. Her name is Melaka Fray."
"A Slayer from the future." Caet commented with a slightly arched brow. Well, that should be quite interesting, and possibly a bit challenging. A thought which had Caet now quite eager to meet her Slayer. "She did have a Watcher?" With Melaka being from so far in the future one had to wonder it the Watcher/Slayer tradition had carried on that far into the future or if things had steadily changed over the years.
"From what I gather, yes, although only briefly. Apparently the Watchers in the future turned out to be a bunch of lunatics. She's only been in basic training. She's keen to learn about demonology, I've noticed, although she's hesitant to take direction where fighting is concerned. The only person that she manages to take direction well from is our intern, which is... interesting," Isabella replied. Hm, she was quite observant, wasn't she?
"Interesting? How so?" That remark had definitely caught the Aussie Watcher's attention. From what she recalled from being a Watcher in years past, there were no interns, just Watchers in training. Was it possible that the term for Watcher in training had been replaced with intern.
Apparently so. "Jodi is a new recruit. She's thirteen... and doesn't seem to rub some of the Slayers the right way." Yes, she'd heard about the incident with Faith, although was glad that to see that mentality towards the young girl was slowly changing. "But Melaka listens to her. It's quite fascinating."
"Well," Caet said after listening to that brief little bit about Jodi, "I can kind of understand that as most of the Slayers are older then your new recruit. It can be hard enough for a Watcher to get a newly assigned Slayer to listen to them. So, I'm sure it would be harder for someone younger to get one to listen to them." Though Caet once more found something Isabella said interesting, that her apparent assigned Slayer seemed to listen to an intern, and one only 13 at that.
"Yes, that does make sense," Isabella replied. She frowned lightly when she realized that Melaka was still out. Hrmh. Maybe she was a bit nervous to meet her new Watcher? Whatever the reason, she'd have to talk to the girl later (or possibly ask Gabriel to do it). "Well, it looks like Melaka might be a while yet. Would you like a coffee? I'm sure we can find something non-work related to talk about."
"I'd like that. Is there a place within walking distance to get coffee?" Caet inquired as it would be a handy thing to know when she'd want that spur of the moment coffee. And the blond, though she wouldn't be voicing it at the moment, was definitely attracted to the other Watcher. So going out for coffee would be a good way to try and get to know the woman better.
Of course, while Isabella found her attractive as well, she was completely oblivious to Caet's feelings. Ah, wonderful. That was going to make things interesting, wasn't it? "Yes, it's no more than a few blocks away." She stood up and smoothed down her pants. "I plan to tell you how much we're going to win The Ashes next year." Little did Isabella know...
"Is there someplace I can store my suitcase?" Caet asked then with a nod toward the entrance of the Hyperion where she left her luggage just inside the door and a bit to the side. "You care to wager on that, Isabella." Obviously the woman was under the foolish notion that England was going to win The Ashes. Everyone with half a sense knew that Australia would, again, bring home the crystal urn.
"Oh here. Let me take that," Isabella replied, walking over to pick up the suitcase, moving it over behind to her office. Sure, she didn't have to, but it seemed the right thing to do. Plus, at least now it wasn't like someone was going to trip over it."$20 says that England's bringing that urn home soon, no if's ands or buts about it." Isabella grinned.
"You are so on!" Caet grinned back having no doubts that Australia would take The Ashes. This was kind of refreshing to Caet. To have a friendly bit of rivalry going on there with a woman she seemed to be getting along with. It was going to be nice to have something other then Watcher stuff to talk about.
