Trying to Make Some Amends
Who: Faith and Jodi
Where: The Hyperion
When: March 23rd, A few days after this scene
Relaxing a little (as she'd JUST come in from a rather... rough day at school), young Jodi Hanson sat in the library of The Hyperion, researching various sorts of fighting styles and battle forms. Wearing beige slacks, and a dark blue sweater open over a tight light blue t-shirt, she sighed as she gingerly sat down on the floor beside a pile of books with a little wince on her face.
Faith had overslept today, having been out WAY too late the night before with her girlfriend, basically raising hell like they tended to do. She had barely had time to get dressed and get her ass over the Hyperion before Giles would start bitching her out for being late. Yeah, she actually had times to show up, believe it or not. When she saw Jodi on the floor making pained faces, she paused and looked her over. "Everything alright, kid?" she asked.
"I'll be fine." Jodi said curtly, trying to hide the pain she was obviously in. "Fell down." Yeah. Right. "Don't worry... I'm not gonna be bothering you today."
"You and I both know I way overreacted when that happened," Faith said, unable to basically say 'I hit you' at this point. "So fuck that attitude. Now stop bullshitting me and tell me what really happened to ya."
"Fine. You want something to go laugh with the other slayers about?" Jodi asked, sounding, well... her age as tears welled a little in her eyes. "One of the jerks at school tripped me and made me fall down the front stairs."
"Shit..." Faith muttered under her breath. "I'm really, REALLY sorry for what happened that day, OK? Saying that doesn't make it OK what I did or anything, but there it is." She sighed and sat down on the floor with the girl. "No one' here's gonna laugh at something like that. We're just...a contentious bunch, I guess."
"Look. I might seem like a bossy, know-it-all little tattletale, but you know what? I'm determined to make you all BETTER. And while I'm at it? Prove that I can be a watcher, no matter HOW young I am." Jodi sniffled, pulling her knees to her chest. "And if to be good at my job, AND help keep you all alive, it means you all hate me? I can live with that. I'm used to it anyway."
"Kid, I got no doubt you can be a Watcher at some point. Besides, even though you're young, it's not like a couple of people here aren't young as well." People like Andrew and Hope were college kids, after all. "And I *highly* doubt anyone actually hates you. Hate's like...a lot of effort."
"At least Buffy and Melaka like me. And I think I don't TOTALLY get on Hope's nerves. It's a start." The funny part? It wasn't far from the truth. Even some of the other watchers seemed to resent her presence a little.
"Well, for what it's worth, I don't hate you, either," Faith admitted. "I'm just kind of a bitch is all." Sad but true. If anything, Faith was always going to tell the truth. Sometimes she literally acted like she didn't know HOW to do things like tell 'little white lies.'
"And for what it's worth? If you could get past my pushiness and try LISTENING to me, I think you'd see that I actually MIGHT know what I'm talking about." She sniffed, trying her best not to let the slayer see her cry.
Faith had to grit her teeth to keep herself from saying 'If you weren't so damn pushy, people would be more willing to listen to you.' Arguing wasn't going to fucking help anything right now. Instead, she simply fished in her backpack for a second before pulling out a tissue, handing it to the other girl.
"Ms. Lehane?" Hilariously, she still wasn't calling her by her first name because she saved that for the girls she seemed to genuinely get along with. "Promise me Ms. Harrington won't decapitate me and plant my skull in Mr. Giles' garden like she told me she would?"
"God, PLEASE call me Faith. Ms. Lehane sounds like my mother." Faith shuddered, and it wasn't even a comical shudder, either. Faith HATED her mother. "And Candi doesn't follow through with her creative threats. I'll keep an eye on her just in case, though."
"Thank you." Jodi sighed hilariously. "I really don't want to die so young. I mean, I just got my first girlfriend and everything."
Faith chuckled. "Candi's actually nice when you get to know her," she told Jodi. "I promise she's not quite as crazy as she comes off. Crazy, sure, but not THAT crazy."
"Ok. Good." Jodi rolled to the side a little, rubbing the side of her ass. "Damn it. Falling on your tailbone REALLY FREAKIN' HURTS."
"Hey, at least it's something that you don't have to go to the hospital for," Faith pointed out. "And apparently your school is completely full of dicks."
"It's... survival of the fittest. And I'm just me. Not very fit." Aww. She really DID have zero self esteem, eh?
"Jodi, do you want some self defense training or anything?" Faith asked. Not only would it help her defend herself against assholes...it might give her some self confidence.
"I don't... I mean... I appreciate it, but really, if I fought a wet paper bag? The bag would at least get a few good hits in." Jodi admitted with a laugh.
Faith shook her head. "Come on. It's not like it'll hurt you to learn how to throw a punch, right? If nothing else, I can teach you how to roll well enough with hits so that you won't get hurt." She'd RATHER teach her how to beat the hell out of these jerks, though.
"Ok, ok.... fine. Next time I'm here that... I'm not in pain, I'll let you try to teach me a few things. BUT. You gotta promise to let ME show you some of the notes I've taken on you and actually try to use them to help yourself." Aww... poor thing really DID want respect.
Faith nodded. "Sure. Who knows. Maybe I'll even learn something. Just no more ragging on a person for taking a breather, OK?"
"Deal." Jodi said with a grin forced through obvious pain. "Now... I'm gonna get going... I promised Melaka I'd help her out."
Faith pushed herself up off the ground, then offered her hand to Jodi to help her up. "Wicked. Hit me up when you're feeling a little bit better and we'll get started."
