Appealing to Her Sense of Decency
Who: Faith and TJ
Where: Avarice
When: Friday, March 18th
Ever since the incident with Ariana last month, TJ had been skittish about going out to the clubs at night (with good reason) and it was only now that she dared to go out. The pale teenager was in Avarice tonight with her friends (well, the ones that smoke, drank and did various other things), dressed in high heeled brown boots, a dark blue mid-thigh high dress that flared out at her waistline while the top part of said dress was corset-y and so tight she was practically spilling out of the thing, along with a faux-aviator jacket and a small, silver crucifix necklace that Jodi had given her. In a word? She looked delicious. She made a mental note to see if she could try to sneak into Jodi's room later, since, more than anything, she loved to tease the poor girl. As it was, however, she was out on the dance floor at the moment, just cutting loose.
Faith herself was doing something similar, out on the dance floor, enjoying herself a good bit and just wanting to have a good time for the night. It was one of Candi's nights to be out on patrol, so Faith was having to entertain herself while she waited for her girlfriend to get done and show up. When she spotted the hottie in the skirt, though, Faith gave the girl a grin and a wink. Hey, flirting's always fun!
Flirting was always fun. TJ was the first to admit. Let's just hope that she doesn't get too carried away with it, hm? "Hey," TJ grinned right back, still dancing, she said: "how you doin'?" And yes, she did sound like a feminine version of Joey Tribbiani there.
"Doin' good," Faith said with a grin still on her face. Unlike some, Faith was also perfectly happy to JUST flirt instead of pushing herself onto other people. Hell, she had plenty of sex waiting for her at home. Why fight someone for it? "You?"
"Can't complain, honestly," TJ replied with a husky chuckle. Which was actually true. Life before Jodi had been hectic at best, TJ could never seem to sit still. Obviously she was out tonight, but the point was that she didn't feel the need to go out as often anymore. Anyway... "Good life, great girlfriend. What's not to love?"
"Sounds a lot like my life, actually," Faith admitted, still grinning. She liked her life and girlfriend, so she definitely couldn't bitch much about her life either.
TJ chuckled again. It was always nice to meet new people, wasn't it? Plus! Someone she had something in common with! Yay! "What's her name?"
"Candi," Faith said. "Want to grab a drink with me? Dancing's great, but it doesn't lead to talking very well, you know?"
Hm. Why did that name sound vaguely familiar? TJ couldn't quite place her finger on it. She shrugged it off, however, and nodded agreeably: "That'd be great. My feet are starting to kill me," she joked.
"Awesome," Faith said, heading over to the bar and ordering herself a beer. "Get whatever you want. It's on me."
"Thanks," TJ smiled, ordering a coke from Mia with a wink. "So, I'm gonna take a wild stab and say that you're from Boston." Oh yeah, because it was that hard to guess. "How long've you been here for?"
Faith laughed. "I'm easy to peg, huh?" she asked playfully. "Yep. Been here for a few years now, actually. Ended up coming here during kind of a long trek from Boston, really." Which meant that she had run away and eventually hitchhiked her way here. Whatever.
"Just a little," TJ replied with a smirk, leaning against the bar slightly. "That's pretty impressive, though. Getting out on your own so young, I mean." TJ figured Faith couldn't be more than a few years older than her. "Have you ever read that Kerouac book 'On the Road'?"
"OK, gotta admit, not really much of a reader, at least on my own." She may pick up a book if someone recommended it to her. "Is it any good?"
TJ nodded, since not everyone read books. She was sure one of her brothers only read the 'articles' in Playboy, come to think of it... "It is. It's very ... steam of consciousness. It's basically about Kerouac and all of these random road trips that he went on with his friends. I'll lend you my copy, if you wanna give it a go. Hell, you'll probably read two pages and say 'what the hell is this shit?'" She giggled.
"I'd be cool with that," Faith said with a grin. She took a sip of her beer when it came over. "Besides, who knows? Maybe I'll prefer the 'stream of consciousness' over regular books."
"You never know," TJ agreed. "It was clearly written in the 40's and 50's, so it takes a little adjusting, but I think it's great. Obviously that came to mind since you mentioned trekking over here," she added with a faint blush. Yep. She was a bit of a nerd, wasn't she? "So, I know your girlfriend's name. What's yours?"
"I'll prep myself before hand before reading it then." Which actually meant maybe asking Giles a few questions while she was reading it if something confused her. His mind might explode while she was reading a book, though. She was pretty sure she had never done so in front of him unless it was Slayer related. "And I'm Faith," she said with a nod. "What's your name?"
TJ chuckled huskily. Coming from a rather... laid back and hippie-like family, she was used to open discussions about books and music (the occasional movie, also), so when it came to offering a book for someone to read, it was almost second nature to her. "TJ," she replied, clicking her tongue thoughtfully. "You wouldn't happen to be the same Faith that hangs around The Hyperion, would you?" If not, no foul - if so... well, we'll just have to wait and see, won't we?
"Um...yeah, actually. Do we know each other?" If they had fucked and she had forgotten the girl, she was going to kick herself. Now, the REAL reason behind this? Faith was definitely going to be kicking herself anyway.
"In a ... 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon' kind of way, yeah." TJ paused briefly. She'd liked what she'd seen of Faith so far, but that protective urge when it came to Jodi always came first. "You know my girlfriend, actually. Jodi."
When TJ said that that Jodi was her girlfriend, Faith sighed. "Shit...," she muttered. "Look, I'm kind of a act first, think later kind of chick. Always have been. Not trying to excuse what I did, but it is what it is. For what it's worth, sorry for what happened. I definitely should have handled my shit better than I did." And Faith wouldn't blame the girl for picking up and walking away right now.
TJ nodded slowly. "Look, I understand not being able to control impulses. It's still something that I struggle with myself. But she isn't like you. She can't fight back. She gets bullied SO much at school that when someone pushes her around or HITS her... she immediately thinks that she deserved it. And that's not right. As much as I'd like to hurt you for what you did, I know that I couldn't hold a candle to you physically... so what I'm going to do is appeal to your sense of decency. If she gets on your nerves again," she'd seen it with Kayla, after all, "walk away."
"...I didn't know she was bullied at school, too." What most people didn't know about Faith was that, when she was a little kid, she was picked on for being the 'poor kid' in school. It was kind of what made her bitchy and angry toward life in the first place, along with the beatings from her mother. "Let me promise to you that it'll never happen again...from ANY of us."
"I hope so," TJ replied with a nod. "I know that she can get overbearing with this job, I've seen it, but it comes from a good place and she is SUCH a sweet girl. I HATE seeing her with bruises. I HATE that being bullied is an every day thing for her." TJ took in a breath and let it out slowly. "I don't know what she'd say to me telling you that, but you need to understand."
"I won't tell her what you told me," Faith said to her. "I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that she doesn't get any more bruises from any of us."
"Then it's a start," TJ replied, trying to calm down a little. "I'll see if I can drop by one day next week, see how she's doing. I'll leave that book for you at the front desk if I don't see you around." Which was clearly an act of extending the olive branch.
Faith nodded. "Thanks," she said to TJ. She had every intention of fulfilling her promise as well.
