Trading Secrets
Who: Jaycen & McKenna
Where: Avarice
When: Monday night
While it had been about two weeks since Jaycen Crosby had realized that his longtime online crush was actually McKenna Dawson, the girl who was practically his daily nemesis at school... the two of them had been keeping the attraction between them on the down-low. Not that they were embarrassed... but neither had really decided how to let others know yet. For tonight? Monday night was perfect for them to chill at Avarice, since the majority of their schoolmates were at home doing schoolwork.
Wearing dark blue jeans and a Marilyn Manson hoodie, Jaycen sat at their table, just.... sort of looking at her.
"You know... I still find it hard to believe someone as freakin' GORGEOUS as you had nothing better to do than sit at home chatting with me on a computer..."
While it was true that most of their peers used the first night of the school week to get their homework done, McKenna still had reservations about joining Jaycen at Avarice. Anyone could walk into the club at any moment and spot the pair together. It was probably why McKenna had chosen to wear a gray, pullover hoodie with a pair of black jeans. The hood was pulled up over her head to conceal most of her blond hair.
"You're making me sound pathetic there, Jaycen." McKenna responded with a smile. "Anyway, chatting with you via the internet was more interesting then hanging out with my so called 'friends'." Of course that excluded Sandra. McKenna had actually accepted the girl as a friend ever since Sandra and her family had moved to L.A.
"Please. Like anything ABOUT you is pathetic. Every girl in school wants to BE you, and almost every guy wants to HAVE you. You're popular, gorgeous, and witty as hell. I just never knew a genuinely NICE girl was in there behind all the shitty comments. Gotta say I'm loving it though..." He admitted, giving her that 'melt you like a hot knife through butter' smile.
"Yeah, well most people just see what's on the surface. They're too superficial to even want to try and look deeper." Which had been why McKenna acts the way she does. Her little built up barrier keeps them at arms distance with no chance of learning the truth about her.
"So the real question is..." He smiled, even though he wasn't as confident as he seemed, "What now? I mean... are you really willing to potentially lose all your friends over ME?"
"The real question here is will you stick around when you find out about the real me." McKenna smiled faintly as she started getting an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach. She was sure Jaycen would reconsider the whole "them" thing once he learned what she really was.
"Um... McKenna?" Jaycen asked, looking at her like she'd grown a second head. "I managed to find you attractive even when you were being a royal bitch and treating me like a piece of garbage. I really don't think there's anything else you could say or do to scare me off at this point." Well. He MAY have had a point there.
"What I've managed to keep a secret from most everyone might surprise you. And I wouldn't blame you if you chose never to speak to me again. I know you probably think I'm talking crazy here, but I just want you to know what you're getting with me."
"Trust me, babe... I have a lot of abnormal shit in MY life too. So... unless you're gonna tell me that like... you're really a MAN..." he winked there, "which I now know for FACT isn't true... you literally cannot scare me away."
"Can we go someplace. Private." What McKenna verged on telling Jaycen she wasn't wanting anyone else to hear. Her confession was for his ears and his ears only.
"Private? I can do private..." He said, raising a brow as he led her out to his car. OK, so it was WAY nicer than anyone thought he'd be driving. Funny how since his sister started working for Ben, suddenly Ben was giving things like bad-ass cars and expensive clothing out, hm? He opened the door for McKenna, and gestured for her to get in. "This is about as private as private gets."
McKenna simply nodded too nervous to actually say anything as she climbed into Jaycen's car. The blond waited looking out the car window for Jaycen to get in.
When he got in on the driver's side, he turned to her, taking one of her hands in both of his, looking into her eyes. "Come on. Talk to me... I swear to you, anything you say, I'll accept."
McKenna sighed softly when Jaycen got in and took one of her hands within his. She wanted to look away. Let her eyes focus on anything but him, but the blond just couldn't force herself to do that. Inhaling deeply, McKenna finally let the words tumble out. "I'm not human, well not completely anyway." Slowly she eased her hand from his and let her gaze lower to it as she rested her hand on her lap. The last thing she was wanting to see was the expression on his face after hearing her revelation. In her mind McKenna was still expecting Jaycen to turn on her.
At this revelation, he simply raised an eyebrow, and sighed. "You'd be surprised how many people in my life right now that applies to. So.... tell me more. And just... know that I believe you. And I'm not running."
"I'm what people like to label a Dhampir. Not fully a human, and yet not fully a vampire. Guess you could say I'm part both." McKenna said unsure of how much she would have to tell Jaycen as she wasn't sure just how much he knew about the supernatural.
"Wow." He said, letting it all process. Well... may as well make her feel a little better, right? "If it helps? We moved here because my sister is a werewolf. We've been on the run from some hunters that have been after her. There's actually another like you... in our school." He smiled softly, draping an arm over her shoulders. "You aren't alone. And again? You might notice me not running."
"I was sure you'd bail once you found out what I am." McKenna said with slight relief that Jaycen didn't seem to have changed his view of her after that revelation. Leaning against hin then, McKeena rested her head on his shoulder. "How is it that your sister is a werewolf and you're not."
"You know? I guess I'm just the lame one." He said with a playful tone, trying to make her smile. "And you know Stephanie Whitmore? She's in that band with Mrs. Bale? She's the one that's like you."
That did get a bit of a smile out of McKenna. "You can't tell anyone what I shared with you." the blond told him. While she felt he had a right to know, even though she had been nervous and hesitant about telling Jaycen, McKenna didn't want that to become public knowledge.
"Look. I won't tell a SOUL. Not even Janna or the Bales. Nobody." He pulled her close, placing a comforting kiss upon her forehead. "I mean, obviously, the same goes on THIS end... Janna would kill me if she knew I told anyone about this..."
"I promise I won't say a word to anyone." McKenna said giving her word to Jaycen. "I'd hate for your sister to kill you. It'd mean I'd have to start from scratch searching online for another cyber buddy." She adding teasingly.
"True. And we've only been to like... I think it's considered second base?... with you, and I'd hate to die without getting the whole package deal..." Oh, god, how he was trying to keep a straight face there...
"You know you have a one track mind, Jaycen Crosby." McKenna stated as the edges of her mouth curved slowly into a light grin.
"Um... duh? I'm a teenage boy. In a car with probably the sexiest chick I KNOW. What do you expect me to think about, baseball?" He asked, kind of loving that their playfully teasing banter had somehow survived their online talks and made it into real life. "You know.... this IS a big car... "
"It's not THAT big." McKenna countered. The blond wasn't a car sex type of girl, never had been. And while she liked Jaycen Crosby big time, had ever since they had started an online relationship, she wasn't about to lower her standards for him. Which translated into no sex in a car no matter how big and roomy a vehicle it was.
He took the hint... luckily he'd been teasing anyway. Well... about doing it in the CAR at least. "So. Back to the Bale Estate for us?" He asked, wagging his eyebrows at her. Oh, come on. While he was the only one really... SHOWING it, he knew damn well the almost MAGNETIC attraction there was completely mutual.
"Can't exactly go to my place." McKenna pointed out. Her family's house wasn't an option, and never would be as long as her step-monster lived there. She was a major reason why McKenna rarely brought any of her so called friends home, unless she was guaranteed that the woman her father had married wasn't anywhere on the premises.
"Your enthusiasm to make out with me ASTOUNDS me, McKenna. Kudos. Seriously." Heh. These two, huh? The casual observer would likely think they STILL couldn't stand each other. "Come on.. let's go do things people write dirty stories about."
"Just drive, Crosby." McKenna smirked as she straightened up in the passenger seat. While she might have seemed a bit to casual about it, McKenna was as attracted to Jaycen as he was to her.
"Yes'm!" He said in a mockingly subservient voice. "And if anyone asks? You just couldn't resist the rugged, manly charms of moi." Oh, but he had such self-mocking to his tone there...
