Goddamn Snow
Who: Faith and Mel
Where: Hotel, Nome, AL
When: Saturday Morning, March 5th
While Mel had went out, Faith had woken up. Assuming that she had headed off to get herself (and hopefully Faith) some sort of coffee or breakfast, Faith decided to head outside for a smoke. Damn hotel rooms wouldn't allow smoking inside, and Faith didn't want Giles charged extra because she had smoked up the place. Sitting outside her room in her parka and stuff, she shivered slightly as she puffed through her cigarette. "I'm gonna die from pneumonia before these things have a chance to give me cancer," she said to herself for gritted teeth as she tried to finish it off as quickly as she could.
While she had left Cyd at the diner in something of a huff, Mel at least had the presence of mind to go to the second nearest coffee house to the hotel to get her and Faith two take-away coffees, which was what she held in her hands as she approached the other Slayer. "Wasn't sure how you take it. I've got cream and sugar in my pockets, if you need 'em," she said, her voice completely void of emotion. Eep. Someone wasn't in a good mood.
Faith's ears perked up when she heard Mel coming up, but she REALLY perked up when she noticed the funny sound in her voice. Faith was actually a lot more perceptive than most people gave her credit for. "Thanks," she said, taking the coffee with loads of cream and sugar. "Everything OK?"
Mel sat down next to Faith and poured cream and sugar in her coffee as well. She generally took coffee black, but sweeteners were nice to come by. "Yeah. Just had a run in with our friend, is all. Kinda ticked me off."
Faith made a slight face when Mel mentioned that she had ran into Cyd. "K, I just don't get her," she admitted. "I can't figure out how you can honestly reject a life like this. What all did she say, anyway?" Faith had a feeling the girl had said something.
"She knows what it's like. Blah, blah, blah. Not a normal life. Blah." Well, SOMEone was a little snippy, hm? "She basically said that being a Slayer isn"t a life at all"
"Then shows what she actually knows about being a Slayer, huh?" Faith asked, taking a sip of her coffee after she finished dumping her cream and sugar into her. "Sounds like she had a shitty experience while she was active, though. Doesn't speak for what WE go through or anything. Apparently hers just sucked."
"Yeah, I guess," Mel replied with a shrug. She hadn't really thought of it like that. She watched the steam escape from her coffee for a moment before taking a sip. "I just found it offensive."
"I find it kind of offensive, too. I'm not exactly dying to get the girl to come back to LA if that's how she's feeling, you know?" Faith asked her. "It's her business if she wants to come or not. I'm not gonna drag her down if she's that against it." Besides, who wants a Slayer down that hates it that bad? "Let her ass stay up here and freeze."
Mel couldn't help it but chuckle at that. "That's kinda what I was thinking as well. I pretty much just said if she wanted to have a dull and useless life, she should stay here." She grinned slightly. "That part was fun."
Faith laughed. "Sounds about right. I'd have said the same thing." She nodded. "Besides, I *like* my life. My girlfriend's a Slayer. We bang after a good fight with a vamp or six, I got a kick ass Watcher. I really couldn't ask for more."
"That actually sounds kinda perfect," Mel replied. Too bad *she* didn't have a Watcher or a girlfriend... but she'd probably get either eventually, surely. She needed more things like that to keep her grounded, after all.
"I'd definitely like to think so," Faith said with a smirk. "Have they found you a Watcher yet?" If not, it was really only a matter of time before they did.
"Nah, not yet." Mel shrugged. "The last one... well, unofficial one, liked to throw girders at my head, so... you know. I can wait." Yes. Actual GIRDERS. "He pinged me a few times with the damn thing, as well. Hurts like a MOTHERFUCKER."
Faith arched an eyebrow. "Damn...and I thought Sargent Delallo was a badass," she said with a low whistle. "Well, I think I can safely say that no one is going to throw girders at your head."
"Yeah. She's a pussycat compared to Urkonn," Mel replied with a brief chuckle. Brief in that it died quickly as soon as she remembered that he'd killed her best friend. She didn't want to go into that, however, and instead changed the subject, tilting her head to one side and arching an eyebrow: "Cold enough for ya?"
Faith could tell that Mel had hit upon something that she didn't like. "Yeah, definitely cold enough," Faith said. "Want to head inside? We can still watch the snow from a window."
Mel chuckled, clearly not as bothered by the cold as Faith was. Then again, heat tended to bother her more. She stood up and opened the door, walking back into the room. "Dibs on the shower," she said with a smirk.
"Fine by me," Faith said as she walked inside. She might be from Boston, but that didn't mean that she liked the snow at all. At least it was full snow, unlike what you usually got in the city. People salted the roads and stuff before you could get a good look at it. Now that she had seen full on SNOW...they could fucking keep it. "Can I join you?" she added playfully.
"Maybe next time," Mel replied with a smirk while she fetched herself a towel. Well, that wasn't a flat out 'no', was it? Interesting. Anyway. Moving on. "Soon as we're on the road, think you'll be up to teaching me to drive?"
Faith laughed. "Sure, I'll teach you how to drive." If Giles was here, he'd be pinching his nose right about now. He HATED Faith's driving skills. He said that she drove too fast and too recklessly. Not everyone can drive like a damn grandma.
While Mel would learn the road laws eventually, it wasn't like she was going to rigorously stick to them herself. ... Wow. Suddenly putting these two on a road trip doesn't seem like the smartest idea, huh? "Rocketship," Mel grinned. "I'll be a few."
"Wicked," Faith said, sitting down on the bed after yanking off her jacket. God it was awesome being out of that thing. She hated that parka-thing.
