They Can't Possibly BE Any Cuter
Who: Gunn and Maddie
Where: Fred and Maddie's place
When: Thursday Afternoon, 3/10
Maddie was currently sitting on her sofa after a long afternoon at school/work, dressed in jeans and a plain black tee, her dark hair tied back in a haphazard ponytail. Fred had gone out with her girlfriend, leaving Maddie sadly alone. While they hadn't gotten along at first, Maddie had come to consider Fred a friend – even if she was too sweet to function. She leaned forward and plucked her beer from the table, taking a long swig. Hey, she'd had a long day. Don't judge!
Gunn knocked on the door with a rather squirmy present in his hands. While that may sound gross, what he was actually holding was a kitten he and his friends had 'rescued' from a bunch of vampires and demons playing kitty poker, which was as disgusting as it sounded. Most of the cats had been claimed, but Gunn had managed to snag one for Maddie. He figured she would find this one adorable.
Maddie frowned lightly, not expecting any visitors. "Just a sec!" She set her beer down and picked herself up, opening the door curiously. Her eyes brightened when she saw Gunn and her lip wibbled when she saw the kitten. "D'aw! Kitty!" She chuckled. "Accompanied by Mocha Love!" She grinned and smooched his cheek. "Who's THIS little guy?"
He smirked at her as she kissed him on the cheek. "This little guy is all yours, for the price of one beer," he said playfully. "Actually, my friends and I rescued him, and I thought you could use a pet." Gunn personally loved animals, and had always kept something around, if only because cats kept mice away. He actually completely melted with puppies. The cuter and less manly, the more he adored them, sadly. "You want?"
"ZOMG, yes please!" She hopped about happily, quickly ushering him inside. Well. Looks like they had another thing in common, eh? As bitchy as she could be, she totally melted around small animals. "You saved him?" That was the part she loved, and she beamed proudly. "Can I?" She made grabby hands.
"Yep. Rescued him and his siblings from a vampire game of kitty poker. Everyone got a claim on the rest of the litter, but I got him for you." With a smile, he handed the kitten to Maddie. "So, whacha gonna name him?"
"Tee hee," she giggled and took the furry bundle. She tried to pet him a few times but he seemed intent on capturing her fingers and gnawing on them, so she let him do that instead. "You're SO sweet and are gonna get SO much attention later." Who knew that kittens immediately equal nookie? "NO idea about the name. I've always wanted to call a cat 'Schrödinger', but I think that's also a poor physics joke. Maybe you could help me name him?"
"I...can't even pronounce that..." Gunn admitted with a laugh. "A bit too big of a name for a kitten. I'm sure we'll come up with something." And YAY for kitties equaling nookie!
"Maybe a comic book character?" She pondered, but let it go for now. "I'm sure he'll let us know his name once we get to know him." She carried said kitty over to the fridge and popped the fridge open, grabbing Gunn a beer and handing it to him. Hey, she shouldn't be the only one drinking! She set the kitten down to let him explore, thinking that she'd have to get him food and whatnot soon. "How're you, anyway, babe?"
"Sounds like an awesome plan, actually," he said about the cat's name. He took the beer and popped it open, sitting down on her couch. "I've got food and stuff for him in the truck. Just wanted to surprise you with him first." Food, a bed, a scratching post...all the usual cat crap that Gunn had...'found.' Yeah, found. Right Gunn. "I'm doing good. You know. Going out, saving people from vamps who wanna make them snacks. What about you?"
"Oh, great. I was just wondering about that," Maddie replied, wrinkling her nose as she plopped down on the couch beside him. She was in an awfully cheery mood today, wasn't she? "Thank you." She nuzzled him lightly. "I'm... actually pretty good, surprisingly. Nothing's really made me pouty for a while."
"Well, that's good," Gunn said. "A pouty Maddie makes for a sad Gunn," he said with a smirk. He wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close to him.
She kissed the underside of his jaw, as always, just loving it when they got their snuggle on. Sure, the fighting was hot, but the 'come home to' snuggle was what she looked forward to more often than not. "And neither of us want that," she grinned.
He shook his head. "Not at all," he said. He watched as the kitten climbed up onto the sofa and curled up in Maddie's lap, starting to play with her fingers again. "I think someone likes you," he said with a grin.
"I think he does too," Maddie chuckled as she wiggled her fingers, giggling. Oh yeah. A complete bad ass here, eh? "Thank you for my present."
"You're very welcome," he said, pulling her close for a second and kissing her on top of her head.
