Invited to a PARTY (Probably a first for Jamie.)
Who: Talia and Jamie
Where: The Sugar Shack
When: Wednesday, March 9
It occurred to Talia earlier that day that she didn't really go out much (apart from occasionally visiting Bette at work, of course), which prompted her to go to the Sugar Shack that afternoon, least she become a hermit. The slender blonde was currently sitting at one of tables with a large coffee set in front of her, flipping through an old Birds of Prey comic, while her laptop seemed to be doing something all on its own. She was currently dressed in blue jeans and a tight black t-shirt that had a name-tag printed over the left breast that had written on it: 'Hello, My name is: Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die'. The NERD.
Jamie had finished school for the day and, since she had the rare day off from training (Ethan had something come up that he had to attend to), she had decided to head to The Sugar Shack, get hyped up on coffee, and either try and pretend to do some homework or find someone to talk their ear off to. When she walked by Talia's table to order, she noticed the other girl's shirt. "I LOVE that movie," she said to Talia with a grin. Girl happens to love romance movies. What can you do?
Talia looked up at Jamie and smiled softly as soon as soon she recognized her (which, given Talia's memory? Took less than three seconds, admittedly). "Me too," she replied. "Looking for a coffee fix?"
Jamie nodded. "Yeah, I need it after a long day at school," she admitted. "After I get my drink, mind if I join you?" Jamie did need to make some damn friends, after all.
Talia remembered that Jamie was one of the few people that she could actually tolerate at school, so she didn't see a reason why not. "Sure. It'll stop me from being antisocial." She motioned to her comic to prove her point.
"Nothing wrong with reading. Means your smarter than at least half of our high school." Jamie was certain that half of the football team couldn't actually read at all. "I'll be right back." She went up to the counter and ordered herself a mocha frappacino and, when it was done, came back over and sat back down with Talia.
Talia watched Jamie with a curious eyebrow arch, since while they'd been on friendly terms... it wasn't like people actively went out of the way to talk to Talia. Then again, she was always reading something or gave the air of disinterest, so that might be why. She set her comic down on her laptop keyboard and sipped at her own drink. Hm. What do normal people ask in these situations? "Erm, how've you been?" Well, that was a start, at least!
Frankly, it was because of Talia's shirt that Jamie had talked to her today. Still, can't knock it. "Been doing good. Keeping busy. Trying to stay out of trouble." Trying not to accidentally kill anyone else that she knew. You know, the usual. "How've you been?"
"Keeping busy," Talia replied. The last month or so had been interesting for little Talia. She graduated a little earlier than most people... moved into her own place and was currently working on starting her own business. Blame the mun for not playing her more often. "I'm working on building an internet company at the moment, which," isn't as challenging as I'd hoped it would be, "is interesting."
"Really? What's the company gonna do?" Jamie had an email, but beyond that, she didn't really know much about the internet.
"Website building and security, mostly. You'd be surprised how many hackers are out there... and no, not the inefficient ones from that Angelina Jolie movie. ACTUAL hackers." Talia being one of them, but shh.
Jamie giggled at the Jolie reference. "Sounds like something that'll take off like crazy in a few years. Your business, that is." Lucky her, huh?
"If I don't lose interest or find something else," Talia admitted. It was hard for her to find things that truly occupied her mind. Bette had mentioned going to crime fighting and while that appealed, that also terrified the CRAP out of her. She wasn't worried about her own personal safety, but BETTE'S, mind you, but still. "What about you? Plans for college? Still writing?"
"Both, actually," Jamie said to her. "I was thinking about going to UCLA, you know, so that I can stay close to my family." And still slay in the area. It was a place that she had gotten to know, after all.
"That sounds cool," Talia replied. It was at this point that the mun realized that Talia was actually holding a conversation. Holy CRAP, when did that happen? "So, I'm guessing you're a really family orientated person, huh?"
"Yeah, I am, actually." Jamie did love her family, but she also wanted to stay around to make sure to keep LA's vampire situation held back a little bit.
"That's good. I've read that it's good to have something to keep you grounded." While she'd spent more time with her father in the last year than she had in the five previous to that, she actually thought of Bette when she said that.
"As long as you've got someone that keeps you grounded, it doesn't really matter who it is," Jamie said. "I'm just lucky with the family and the boyfriend." And the Watcher. Ethan was awesome like that.
"That's true," Talia smiled, thinking of Bette again. "Speaking of: I'm pretty sure my girlfriend wants me to throw a housewarming party. I'd like to invite you. If that's okay?"
Jamie gave Talia a huge grin. "I think that would be awesome, actually," she said to her. Wow, making friends and everything. Sweet!
"Cool." She figured a way to contact each other would be nice, so she pulled a scrap piece of paper from her pocket and a pen, scribbled her name on one half and tore it off, handing Jamie and the other half to do the same. "I'm under the impression it would be sooner than later." She meant the party, of course.
Jamie took the scrap of paper and stuck it in her pocket. After borrowing the pen from Talia, she wrote down her number on a napkin for Talia and handed it to her. "My schedule is pretty free, so just let me know when it's gonna happen." Well, she could free it easily enough...
Talia suspected that Bette planned to invite practically everyone from high school, BUT, at least know she knew at least ONE person that would be going. That was just pure awesome right there.
