Catching Up
Who: Bridget, introducing Chelsea Duquette
Where: A random bistro
When: Saturday, March 5th
While she had something of a busy schedule (especially after the release of her successful Vampire/Werewolf movie 'Carrion Comfort' last month) and generally liked it that way, Chelsea was happy to have a few days off to unwind, and happier still when she received a call from a friend from Las Vegas; so much so that she made arrangements for them to meet for brunch at her favorite bistro. The actress was currently sitting at one of the tables waiting for Bridget to arrive, her brown hair tied back in a tight ponytail, dressed in black jeans and a loose-fitting blue-gray t-shirt. Even 'dressed down' she managed to look stunning.
Bridget had made a few calls that morning after Ashleigh had departed on some scheduled business appointment, which had her running on a bit of a delay. Nevertheless she did manage to make it to the Bistro in what some people liked to refer to as being fashionably late. With her hair worn loose, Bridget entered the eatery in casual wear consisting of a pair of light washed jeans and charcoal gray tank, over which was worn a light washed denim jacket. Strolling in it didn't take Bridget long to spot the stunning looking Chelsea. If she hadn't already been involved with Ashleigh, Bridget would have made a move on the starlet. And it could very well be Chelsea staying at the house in the hills at the moment instead of Ashleigh.
"Hi." Bridget greeted with a smile when she reached Chelsea's table, and not waiting for an invite, she seated herself across from the other woman.
"Hi," Chelsea replied, smiling warmly. She'd politely refrained from ordering anything to eat while she waited for Bridget, as all she had in front of her was a cup of coffee. Luckily, she'd only had a small amount, so she wasn't likely to babble at Bridget just yet. "You look amazing." Interestingly, Chelsea didn't care if Bridget was involved or not. She would have gladly gone home with her. What said about her character she didn't want to think about.
"Thank you." Bridget smiled graciously accepting the compliment. "You look as stunning as ever." In Bridget's view, Chelsea had that natural beauty that was only magnified by the use of cosmetics. The woman could probably roll out of bed and look just as beautiful as when she was all dressed up for a night on the town.
Chelsea laughed lightly. She'd been told that she was beautiful since puberty, but 'stunning' came few and far between, sadly. "Thank you." She took a sip of her coffee. "I figured I'd wait until you got here before ordering. To be honest, I was surprised that you were in town at all." Bridget really did give off the workaholic vibe, after all.
"I had the opportunity and chose to take full advantage of it. My getting away from work for even a day is a rarity." Bridget told Chelsea just as a server appeared at their table. Ordering a cup of tea, Bridget perused one of the menus while letting Chelsea order first, if she were ready to.
Chelsea ordered herself a stack of pancakes and a glass of OJ. She'd pay for it in the gym later, she was sure... but it was a rare indulgence that she allowed herself to have to stop from going insane. She let Bridget order as well, when she was ready, and politely thanked the waiter before resuming the conversation. "Well, for whatever the reason, I'm glad you're here. It's nice to do something out of the ordinary occasionally, don't you think?"
Bridget ordered herself steak and eggs with a side order of wheat toast. When a normal breakfast tends to consist of a slice of toast and glass of orange juice, Bridget chose to go all out and have what most might consider an actual breakfast. "I absolutely agree." Bridget replied with a slight nod after their server had departed with their breakfast orders. "Everyone needs a break from the norm. Gives a person's life a little bit of pepper, so to speak."
Chelsea bobbed her head agreeably to that before picking up her coffee and taking a quiet sip. She had a healthy appreciation for coffee (unlike the Van Warren girls), so it would take her a while to get a little buzz of energy going. "I've actually been meaning to ask you something. How is it that you got into security? Given your stature most people wouldn't find you intimidating, then again, you must be doing something right to have been doing it for... however long you have."
"Actually," The woman pausing a moment to take a sip from her glass of water, "you could probably say I got into it for family reasons." The dark haired woman answered. "My father owns/runs a security business here in L.A. and it just seemed natural for me to follow in his footsteps. And my stature and gender are a help instead of a hindrance to me as people tend to underestimate me."
"That sounds handy," Chelsea replied with an impressed pout of her lips. She knew self-defense, sure... but she was human and could only handle so much. Suddenly, she felt the desire to see Bridget in action, although she didn't say that one out loud. She also tucked away that little bit of information. If she ever needed security, she'd have to look up the Bale name. "How long have you been at it, if you don't mind me asking?"
"Since I was eighteen." Bridget told her. "Started out at the bottom of my father's company and slowly worked my way up. It was how my father started in the business. Was a security guard with some company, and now he owns his own security firm. My opinion? Best way to learn a business or trade is from the bottom up." The oriental featured woman responded with a smile. Bridget felt she wouldn't be as good at her job if she hadn't started at the bottom and learned her way up.
"Couldn't agree more. I could have gotten jobs because I was a Duquette alone." She was from a famous acting family that spanned generations, after all. "I turned those ones down and built my way up. I doubt there's anything more rewarding then getting a job based on merit." She smiled.
"My sentiments exactly." Bridget said, finding herself agreeing with what Chelsea had stated. "I doubt I would be where I am today if I simply traded off on the family name. Nor do I find anything rewarding in getting what you want by going that route. Did you always know you wanted to be a famous movie star?" Bridget asked purely out of curiosity's sake.
"No," Chelsea giggled. "The famous part never interested me. The idea of being someone else for a day always appealed, though. Whether someone historical, or purely fictitious. Just... crawling into a character's skin and seeing what makes them tick. I've learned a lot by observing basic human behavior, as well. Sometimes it's the little things, small facial ticks... sometimes it's much bigger. I'm..." she giggled again, "really not sure that I'm explaining it right, but the important thing is that I enjoy it, I think."
"You dressed up a lot as a child, didn't you." Bridget said with slight amusement at just that thought. And she thought she grasped quite well what the other woman was trying to say, or at least most of it.
"Not just as a child," Chelsea lilted. Of course, she meant that in her private time, not just in her 'job'. That part didn't need to be said aloud. Chelsea leaned back in her seat when the waitress reappeared with their brunch and said a polite 'thank you' before resuming the conversation. "I'm glad that you called, if I haven't said that already. I can't remember the last time I... spent time with a friend." Despite the fact that she wanted Bridget more than that, she was willing to accept her as a friend.
"Well," Bridget paused a moment then when the waitress appeared with their breakfasts, "I had an hour or so to kill," she smiled after their server departed, "so why not fill that time in the company of a friend." And while Bridget felt the mutual attraction between them she was too committed to Ashleigh to act on any feelings she might have for Chelsea. Friendship, really, was all she could offer the other woman.
