Man Chat
Who: Remy and Jack
Where: Avarice
When: Friday Night, 2/18
Tonight was going to be a night where Jack enjoyed himself at Avarice. He had come back into LA a few days after accidentally walking in on Patience and Pat having sex (weird, most definitely), and, other than calling to check on Pat and hanging out with Natalie when possible, hadn't been up to too much. He loved Natalie, but occasionally he felt the need to be out on his own, if only for making sure that their relationship stayed good. People need their space, after all. So, he was at the bar, having a beer. Tonight should be a good night.
Remy had been told that Jack was a drinker... not as bad as before, mind you, but that the man still craved it occasionally, which was... one reason why the tall blonde made his way into Avarice tonight, dressed in leather pants and a black collared shirt, a few of the top buttons open and his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The other reason being that he'd hoped to find female companionship. Which would... have to wait, however, as luck would have it. He smiled faintly when he spotted Jack and flagged down one of the bartenders, ordering himself a beer before speaking. "I hope you don't mind, but I thought it was time I introduced myself."
Jack looked up at Remy and shook his head. "Don't mind at all," he said as a lazy grin crossed his face. "Jack Delany," he said, offering his hand to Remy.
"Remy Benoit," he replied, giving Jack's hand a good shake. Remy always made a point to properly introduce himself to others. His mother's influence, certainly. "How's the evening treating you?" He asked, only breaking eye-contact when CJ came into his peripheral vision.
"Evening's treating me well," Jack answered, nodding to the seat next to him as an offer to sit down with him. He knew vaguely that Remy was a former alcoholic or something, but the man wouldn't be in a bar if he couldn't control himself, right? "How are you doing?"
"I can't complain." Remy smiled faintly and took the offered seat, setting his forearms on the bar as he watched CJ get a drink for him. She was... fun to watch. "You're alone," he noticed. "That's... interesting."
"Just for tonight," Jack replied. "Natalie's busy with something or another. I think she's giving an interview." Plus, time away from each other was good. Makes the heart grow fonder or something.
"That's fair enough," Remy replied, taking a quiet sip of his drink as soon as CJ set it down in front of him. "You're a brave man," he said after a moment, a small smirk appearing briefly.
"How so?" Jack asked, taking a sip from his drink. He wasn't sure if he was a brave man for dating Natalie or for some other reason.
"For dating her," Remy chuckled. Fortunately, he was joking, although it was a fairly poor attempt at a joke, he was well aware. "I suppose I should get the obligatory 'if you hurt her, I'll make you wish you'd never been born' threat out of the way, hm?"
Jack nodded. "I understand. I've made plenty of those threats to the animals that mainly dates my daughter," he said with a chuckle, although he fully intended to follow up on that threat if anything happened. "I don't intend to hurt her in any way, though."
"No, I don't think you do," Remy replied, almost sounding sad there. Not that he necessarily wanted to beat down on Jack, but... well, nevermind. "For what it's worth, I've noticed that she's seemed happier since she started seeing you." That was the important thing to Remy – Natalie's happiness.
"Glad I make her happy then. She makes me happier than I can ever remember being." Maybe back when Louise was still alive and Mere was little. But he was a completely different person then. This is the happiest he's ever been as the person that he became after Louise left.
Remy nodded, seeming to accept that. As much as he loved Natalie (which was more than he should, admittedly), he could see that Jack was good for her, and vice versa. To save his heart, he changed the topic: "I've heard that your band has had some drama recently."
Jack simply started laughing when Remy mentioned that they had some drama. "Goddamn Pat..." he muttered under his breath. "Or I guess I should say goddamn Patience. I have *no* way of explaining what happened, though, without sounding like a lunatic. Well, the part that solved it."
"Give it a whirl. I could always chalk your explanation up to you being drunk," Remy replied with a laugh, clearly joking this time as he ordered himself a second drink, making a note to savor the taste this time.
Jack laughed again. "Patience, Pat's wife, left him because...well, I admittedly *still* don't quite get why, and Pat was moping around, even though one of the Bale women was more than willing to do whatever it took to make him happy, and then I dragged him to Vegas in a vain effort of hoping that some change of scenery would help his attitude some. Instead he found like...some alternate!Patience from a different timeline that was more than happy to be with him." He chuckled. "I actually accidentally walked in on them having sex and thought he had picked up a groupie."
Remy let that sink in for a moment. He only really had a vague knowledge for the supernatural, so forgive him for taking his time to process this. "I guess the saying 'love knows no bounds' is fairly accurate then, no?"
Jack took a sip of his drink and just laughed again. "I suppose that IS fairly accurate," he admitted after a moment. "For the two of them, 'love knows no bounds' is pretty much their motto."
Remy smiled faintly, then. Sadly. As much of a womanizer as he was, he was also incredibly lonely. Not that he let that show, mind you. He lifted his glass in a small toast, "To love. May it never find me." He joked.
"A year ago I was wishing just that," Jack admitted. Much of the love he had found was with someone who seemingly couldn't be with him. At least, with Natalie, things were a lot less complicated. "How about we just toast to happiness, however it might come?" he asked, lifting his own glass.
Remy nodded and clinked his glass against Jack's, "Cheers."
