New Client
Who: Roni and Judas
Where: Roni's Office
When: February 16, Late Afternoon/Early Evening
This was actually Roni's last appointment for the day. Normally, she wasn't here so late, but the person coming in had requested it. It wasn't quite night, so she wasn't expecting a vampire, but it was still kind of late for her. She didn't really mind, though. Sydney was very capable of taking care of herself for a few hours. Well, at long as no one pissed her off. Hopefully, the girl went straight home. It seemed like she had made a friend, thankfully, if the girl that she had seen her hanging with while waiting to be picked up the last couple of days was any indication (thank HEAVENS), so maybe things were getting better. She flipped through a newspaper while waiting for her last appointment to arrive.
Finally, there was a light, almost hesitant knock at the open door, as Julian's father, Judas Lasher, stood there, looking slightly embarrassed to even be here, running a hand through his newly short hair. He knew he needed someone to talk to, if for nothing else for his SON'S sake... but this was still suddenly seeming like a bad idea.
Roni looked up at the knock and stood up when Judas walked inside. "Mr. Lasher? Please, go ahead and make yourself comfortable. I'm Dr. Smyth," she said, walking over and offering her hand to him.
He walked in, sitting as he took her hand, his cold, steely eyes meeting hers for a moment, not showing even a hint of weakness or vulnerability. "Thank you, Dr. Smyth."
Considering some of the clients that she'd had (plus her own family), it naturally took a lot to intimidate this woman. So, she simply met his gaze when he glanced at her. "So, in a first appointment, I usually just suggest that a patient tells me what brought them to actually make an appointment with me. Why don't we start with that?"
Well? Judas was NEVER one to mince words, or to honestly care how anything sounded. "...I was an evil warlock who nearly allowed his only son to become a vessel for the Antichrist? Also because the only woman who ever loved me is dead, and it's partially my fault?"
"Well, now I'm fairly certain I have heard everything," she admitted, writing down what he said. "The first part, at least." Not to knock his pain, but pain over a spouse was a little more common than creating a vessel for the Antichrist. "Why do you think it's partially your fault?"
"Because she died giving birth to my son. Because of the dark powers within him. Powers he had because of the spells I had cast while he was in the womb." Well... he certainly wasn't casting unwarranted blame, hm?
Not really. "Why didn't you end up going through with making your child the Antichrist?" she asked. "Seems like you sacrificed a lot in order for it to happen."
"When she... died... I couldnt give up the last piece of her I had left. I couldn't just... give up the thing she gave her life to give ME." Even while saying this, his voice was so cold, so... dead.
She nodded. He seemed like the type to repress. The fact that he was here was fairly amazing at all. "I understand the sentiment," she said simply to him. "Were you a part of a group or doing this alone?"
"It was a cult. One that I'm still... hiding from to this day. Not for my own safety. I gave up caring about what happens to me years ago. I'm hiding because if they found my son, and saw the power he possessed... I don't want to think of the depths they'd go to in order to have him."
She nodded. "If you're in so much hiding, I have to ask, why are you willing to talk to me?" It seemed like he would need to be a secretive individual, for his son's own safety. "And what sort of powers does he posses?"
"Because I've taken.... precautions to keep him protected now. Even if something happens to ME... at least he's safe now." Hmmmm... now what could THAT mean? "As for him... he's got unbelievable amounts of black magic within him. It runs through his veins like it were BLOOD."
God only knew what that meant. "I see," she said simply. "What's your son like?" she asked him. She didn't want to be blunt, but she couldn't help but be curious to see if he was dark like him.
"For someone with so much darkness within him... he tries his best to be in the light. He embraces what happiness he can find." He sighed, unable to look her in the eyes now.
Roni nodded. "Maybe you should try to follow his example," she said to him. "It might help you out. I'm sure that you're wife would have wanted you you be better off than you are now."
"I know... I just... truly don't KNOW how to be happy anymore. Haven't done it in almost seventeen years." Truly, he'd forgotten how to even SMILE and really mean it.
"It may take some getting out and getting to know people for something to happen for you," Roni said to him. "I wouldn't advise the club scene or anything like that, but even going out to a coffee shop and being around people would be a good start."
"Perhaps I'll consider it." He sighed, unable to even picture himself sitting there in some coffee shop trying to strike up conversations with total strangers.
She nodded. "I know that it may seem like something stupid to do, but if you ever want to be happy again, you going to have to get out more."
"Like I said... I will try. I... just cannot even fathom the thought of sitting there. In one of those places. Trying to... mingle." He said, it, comically, as though he were in PAIN.
She nodded. "I do understand. It's all about baby steps. Just try sitting in one a few times before doing talking, if that helps." She gave him a slight smile. "It might help you ease into it a bit."
"Fine. Tomorrow night, I shall... stop into Eden. That place is the closest thing to a place I would go." He couldn't even IMAGINE himself in the Sugar Shack. "And then I'll come back here, and tell you how futile it was"
She had to bite back a smile and chuckle. He was almost hilarious in his...darkness, even if it was completely understandable where it came from. "Well, hopefully it won't be as futile as you're expecting," she said simply.
"We shall see." He said, fidgeting a little in his seat. Clearly, he wasn't at all comfortable opening up to people.
Roni smiled at him and nodded. She understood that not everyone was completely willing to do lots of talking when they first came in. She just hoped that he eventually opened up.
"Tell me, Doctor... do you have children?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I've never had any children of my own," Roni told him. "However, I recently adopted a teenager who has a few...behavioral problems." That was a complete understatement in describing Sydney, but she wasn't sure how much she should reveal at this time.
"Just be good to her. Show her that while none of us are infallible.. that a little love can go a long way." Well... are we seeing here why Julian turned out so well-adjusted?
She couldn't help but smile at him when she nodded. Even though he was guarded, she could see that he obviously loved his son. It actually made him endearing despite his semi-frightening stance. "I'll make sure to," she said.
Offering his hand, he forced a.... somewhat friendly smile. "Thank you for your time, Doctor. I'll be back next week."
