Making More Friends
Who: Jaycen and Naomi
Where: Bale Estate, then Chloe's Sugar Shack
When: Feb. 7th, Afternoon
Even though Ben had ran her through the hoops today, Naomi was still feeling a little wound up as she left the Bale estate through the front door. She knew why, but it wasn't something that she could do a whole heck of a lot about. Well, not until she got home, anyway. After using his shower and making herself smell half decent (being a Slayer did *not* kill the ability to sweat, unfortunately), she started to head out the door.
Jaycen had just been spending most of the day... well... that would potentially kill the suspense of a future storyline. So nevermind where he's been, thanks. Anyway, in a black leather jacket and dark blue jeans with black hiking boots and an old Overkill t-shirt (yes, the mun's been enjoying shitty 80s-90s speed metal again. STFU), the teen was walking up to the door, JUST as Naomi was walking out. He blinked, recognizing her from school. "...Bettingfield? What're YOU doing here?"
"I know Ben. What are you doing here?" Naomi asked him just as bluntly. It's not like she couldn't be just as blunt, after all. She was picking up more than one habit of Ben's.
"My sister and I... um... well, for now, we kinda live here." He said sheepishly, the embarrassed grin he gave there far more charming than he intended as he scratched the back of his head. "I know, it seems weird. But... we were in a lot of trouble, and Ben and his wife really helped us out."
"They do that a lot, don't they?" Naomi asked with a slightly odd smile on her face before shaking her head. Of course, she could just tell Jaycen what was going on in her life with the Slayer stuff, but she didn't know if he knew about that stuff. "Long term arrangement to live here?"
"NO idea. While I certainly like it here... I don't wanna be some scrub mooching off people, you know?" He asked, kinda trying not to stare. So... maybe it was how she made herself blend in at school, but he'd never noticed how CUTE she was.
It was only in the last few months when she'd started to have any real interest in being noticed by anyone. Now she just flat out 'didn't give a fuck' as some would put it. "I can understand," she said, giving him a slight smile. Then, knowing that Ben didn't exactly have a monopoly on her, she figured she'd go out on a small limb. "You busy right now?"
He shrugged, looking at his watch. Sure, he had a, ok, a 'date' of sorts to talk to "Sally" online in a few hours... but other than that? "No, can't say I am right now..."
"You want to go and grab some coffee or something with me? I was about to head to Chloe's Sugar Shack." She was going to head there anyway, and he *IS* cute. So, why the heck not?
"Sure. I could use some caffeine anyway. Been a lonnnng day." He smiled, turning to walk alongside the girl, smiling softly.
She had actually borrowed her parent's car to come over here today, since it just felt *odd* to her being carried around in Ben's limo. "Want to ride with me?" she asked, gesturing to her car.
"Yeah, that'd be great." He replied with a shy smile, kind of surprised at how different she seemed when she WASN'T in school.
If only he knew WHY she was so different, huh? Unlocking her car, she hopped into the driver's seat and leaned over and opened the passenger door for him. "Hop in," she said to him with a slight smile.
"Yes, ma'am..." He teased, nodding and climbing into the car, setting the seat back a little to stretch his legs out.
She laughed when he called her ma'am. Once he was in and comfortable, she put the car into drive and circled around so that she could head out of the gate of the Bale Estate. "God these people have way too much driveway," she said playfully as she finally reached the gate.
Soon enough they were at the Shack, Naomi walking in and ordering herself a Sugar Fairy Shooter. She still couldn't quite handle the Diabetic Nightmare or whatever they called it. The amount of sugar made her gag. Once she had her drink, she picked out a table and sat down.
Luckily, Jaycen had merely ordered a regular coffee, sipping at it quietly, before finally getting the urge to ask something he'd been wondering. "So... how exactly DO you know Ben? No offense, but it seems weird... a shy quiet teenager hanging out with a rich, married club owner? I mean... if you were hanging with BRANDIE or something it'd be more... expected, I guess."
"If I told you that I was kind of a superhero who fought vampires and tried to keep the streets safe for regular people and Ben was my trainer, would you believe me?" Naomi asked Jaycen playfully. Hey, if he believed her, awesome.
Without missing a beat, he just rolled his eyes and snorted. "Only if you'll believe that my sister is a werewolf that's been being hunted, and THAT'S why the Bales are protecting us..."
"Well, since Ben and most of his family are werewolves, too, then sure," Naomi said without missing a beat. So...when did they cross the line to admitting their lives to one another?
"I'da never pegged you for one of those slayer girls, you know..." He admitted, sitting back a little in his seat. "I've only seen a few of them... but you seemed too... sweet."
She gave him a slight smirk. "But you don't know me very well, do you?" she asked him playfully. "But the slayerness kind of picks us, not the other way around."
"A valid point, I admit..." He said with a wry grin, before thinking of something ELSE he had to ask. "So... when I was talking to Brandie about some of the girls here, she said you and your friend Phoebe are both pretty solitary... how does that HAPPEN? Seriously! You're both cute as hell!"
She shrugged. "Phoebe's more social than I am," she said to him. "Plus, I'm working on coming out of it, finally. Being a Slayer kind of helps with the confidence." She still couldn't help but blush a little when he pointed out how cute she was.
"See... I don't get it. You, Phoebe, even Brandie... you're all cute and NICE girls, and other than that kinda weird kid B's seeing, guys tend to ignore you. Meanwhile jackasses like McKenna and Sandra and Danni have guys falling all over them. It doesn't make sense." Hey... he DID have a point...
"Brandie's boyfriend is actually really sweet. Plus, most of the jocks want the girls who they think will be an easy lay or can't challenge them intellectually or something." Of course, turns out Naomi kind of WAS an easy lay, but no need to advertise, right? "Girls like Sandra, Danni, and McKenna....dime a dozen, but still inexplicably popular.
"Well... Danni is just a dumb-ass, and Sandra and McKenna... damn. They got brains, but they're just pure EVIL." Think he hated the 'popular people'? "Anyway... we should totally hang out more. Seeing as how you kinda hang out at my 'home' a lot... me and Janna both could stand to have more pals..."
"Preaching to the choir," Naomi pointed out. She grinned when she said that they should hang out more. "I agree, we definitely should," she said to him. "Janna's your sister, right?"
"Yeah. She's a good girl. A liiiiittle mouthy at times, but you just gotta learn to let that go." He said with a slight laugh. "We've... had to learn to put up a LOT of walls, you know?"
"Who isn't a little mouthy these days?" LA had a serious supersaturation of people with that as a defense mechanism, huh? "And I can only imagine."
"I gotta say, Bettingfield... you're a damn sight cooler than I ever thought. And now I'm kinda of curious to see what this training of yours is like..." He smirked, crossing his arms.
She snorted. If only he knew. "I bet I can whip your butt," she said to him playfully. She was learning to do that and a whole lot more.
"I would think so!" He laughed, sipping his coffee. "Janna's the strong one, I'm just a normal-ass high school boy..."
She took a sip of her drink. "Yeah, but you still have boy strength. It's when you don't know is when I can really scare the heck out of you." Oh, doing that to jocks who pick on kids at school was just *funny.*
"Sadly, strong girls kind of make me all kinds of giddy. Not sure WHY yet though..." He admitted with a blushy laugh.
"Well, you grew up around it. Obviously you have respect for strong women." That might actually be a half decent reason, come to think of it. "Or you're just weird," she added with a laugh. "Doesn't bother me either way."
"Yeah, I tend to lean toward 'weird'." He admitted. "My own SISTER thinks I'm lame right now, sadly."
"Really? Why's that?" Naomi couldn't resist asking. Of course, most siblings think each other are lame. It was probably nothing.
"How friendless am I? Closest thing to a real friend I have is a girl I've been chatting with almost every night online for weeks now. We're supposed to talk again tonight, actually." And was he harboring a crush on this faceless, nameless girl he'd never met? Shut up.
Naomi giggled. "I think that's kind of cute," she said to him. "OK, little sad, but definitely cute." Well, unless he was jacking it to her as well or something. Not bringing that up, though! "Well, now you at least have one real life friend, too, so your sister won't think you're quite as lame."
"So... you don't seem nearly as strange as Brandie said. No offense, of course. But she said you were acting really weird around her and Julian, like you were on drugs or something." Of course, he was just looking for something to say, to stop himself from just STARING. Which.. yeah. not exactly working.
Naomi rolled her eyes. "OK, totally going to admit this here: Ben wanted me to find a way to break them up. Not gonna happen, apparently. My seduction techniques suck ass." She wasn't weird, just easily bossed around by her Watcher.
"Ben... he's a good guy and all, but he kinda scares me, too. Like... if he was on your bad side? You wouldn't live long enough to realize it." He laughed then, realizing what she'd said. "Looking like you do, I don't see how you'd NEED techniques. I'd think any guy lucky enough to have you want him would pretty much fall at your feet."
"Well, Julian didn't," Naomi said with a shrug. "Well, not mentally. The other stuff is just a pure physical reaction without thought." Not much could stop that. "Ben can be scary, but I'm not afraid of him."
"Well, if you ever get the urge to seduce ME? I doubt you'll find me as resistant as Julian. Jussssst sayin'." He smirked, finding a LITTLE bit of confidence here.
Naomi smirked. "That easy, huh?" she asked, running her foot gently against his ankle. "Guess not everyone's such a jerk then, hmm?"
"Nah... I'm not a jerk at all." He said, confidently. Hey... he was sure about SOME things, ok? Including him being a decent guy. "See... I have to admit... sometimes? Like this? Making a new friend can be pretty AWESOME."
