Discussing Secrets
Who: Ben and Naomi
Where: Bale Estate
When: Saturday Afternoon, Jan. 29th
Naomi slowly walked up to Ben's home and knocked on the door. No matter how much she may have gotten used to coming up there and him (and his wife), it was still a little daunting to walk up to such a giant home and actually knock on the door. Just how much money did these damn people have, anyway? More than her family by a whole lot, that's for sure. She fidgeted slightly as she waited for someone to answer the door.
Well. When Ben answered the door himself? That usually meant he was eager to see the person. So when he opened the door, a big smile on his face, that was a bit of a surprise. "If it isn't one of two prettiest slayers I know..."
She blushed a tad. "Thanks," she said to him. Of course, other than his wife. That was still some very stiff competition. She wasn't sure if this was going to be a training session or what today, actually.
"Please, come in, Naomi. Skylar is in my office, looking up a few things on the computer. I was hoping... maybe we could actually get to know one another a little better." Aw, how about that? Ben was actually trying to be a caring guy here. "I'm your watcher, Naomi... but I want to be your friend as well."
"Um...sure," she said as she walked inside. It was actually kind of sweet of him to want to get to know her a little bit. "I'm not exactly the most interesting person in the world. What do you want to know, exactly?"
He sat down on the sofa, patting the seat beside him. Ok, so did he KNOW that basically his every movement still gave her butterflies? Yes, and he LOVED it. "Start by telling me about your interests, perhaps? Surely you like more than... just training."
"OK," she said, taking the sofa seat beside him. GOD did everything he did give her butterflies. More like giant moths that ate people or something. "Well, I like to read a lot. I'm kind of a...well, nerd honestly. Or...I was before all of this started happening."
"You seem... embarrassed." He frowned, before leaning in to whisper to her. "Want to know a secret? I'm a big reader too. The office Skylar is using right now? It's like my private library. So... consider me a 'nerd' too, then."
"Really?" While she knew better than to say it out loud, she didn't really picture Ben as a 'reading' type. "What sort of books do you read?" This she had to know.
"A bit of everything, really. Although... between us?" He grinned, trying to show her a side of him not many others have seen. "I have a weakness for anything about the things I liked as a kid. I have books about toy collecting, and these Japanese books about the original line of Transformers toys... yeah, I have my nerdy moments too."
She couldn't help but chuckle. "Sorry, it's just hard to picture the infamous Benjamin Bale as the nerdy type in any way," she admitted. "It's just...your reputation obviously precedes you." She smiled. "It's nice, though. It's cool to find out something about you that people wouldn't know from looking at you. That you like Transformer toys, you know?"
"Another secret? I have my old Optimus Prime toy from back then to this day. It's on top of my monitor in the office. But yeah... I read everything from that stuff to Shakespeare. And I love Mario Puzo. I own every novel he ever wrote." Oh. Gee. Now THERE'S a shocker.
"Really?" OK, a little less of a shocker, since the guy wrote 'The Godfather' and Ben was kind of like, the head of his own little werewolf mafia family. "So then, what's your favorite Shakespeare play?"
"The Taming of The Shrew" He replied... big fucking shock there, hrm? Seriously? "Although I'm partial to Othello as well..."
Actually, far less than shocking that he might like 'The Taming of the Shrew,' since that one totally had a pimp like guy in it. Othello, though...more shocking. "Neat," she said. "Haven't had the chance to read 'Othello' yet."
"You know..." He reached over, to stroke her cheek sweetly. "I hope that I can teach you to have true confidence in yourself. Because truly: you are a BEAUTIFUL young woman... and one day? You are going to make someone a VERY lucky man."
She lifted up her eyes to look at him. "That's if I decide on just one person," she added playfully. Obviously someone was having a little bit of an affect on her, wasn't he? "But yeah, hopefully one day I'll have confidence, right?"
"Tell me..." He said, looking into her eyes with that damned steely gaze of his. "You look like you're thinking something you aren't saying. Tell me... no fear here... what exactly are you thinking right now?"
"That...you don't necessarily have to be with just one person to have a good life...at least not right away." A lot of her friends seemed to be pairing off. Who said she had to do it right away?
"Just do what feels right. Don't EVER settle for one person unless it's what feels right to you. I spent many years looking, until I found Skylar. She... enjoys being decadent as much as I do... but if she WANTED us to be with only each other... for her I would do that in a moment.
She nodded, hoping that something like THAT didn't come up any time soon. "Wasn't planning on doing any sort of settling. I'm a Slayer. I don't have to settle for any idiot at the high school."
He caught that look, too. So he found it flattering that she so obviously was retarded for him. Shut up. "You know what? Why don't we go see what Skylar is up to, hm?"
"Sure," she said, standing back up. "Let's go see what your wife has gotten into." Was it strange that she was getting confidence from THIS? Maybe, but it seemed to work.
