Words of Warning
Who: Isabella, Jodi and Kayla
Where: The Hyperion
When: Wednesday, February 2nd
Kayla was training on her own today, she'd decided to give Gabriel a little bit of space for the next few days, since she'd taken Ben's advice and let him down gently... but some separation right now could only be a good thing. The Slayer was currently in one of the training rooms, trying something a little different on the balance beams that Isabella had set up in there a couple of months back. It wasn't necessarily *wrong*, but at the same time, it wasn't how she was taught.
"Parrrrdon me... Kayla?" Oh, crap. Approaching Kayla then was the young girl some of the Slayers had dubbed 'The Informer', young Jodi Hanson. She'd been brought in by Isabella to be an intern of sorts for the Watchers. Someone to watch how THEY work, to learn from them, etc. But most of the girls were SURE she'd merely brought the girl in to be a royal pain. "I believe that you're in slightly the wrong position. The handplant was supposed to be done with the LEFT hand, not the right, and you have your wrist turned slightly more than Ms. Delallo showed you."
Kayla continued what she was doing, nevertheless, frowning at the other girl's tone. "It feels more natural to do it like this," she grumbled. That, and she'd broken her wrist about six months back and was starting to think that it hadn't set right.
"I'm only pointing out that Ms. Delallo clearly felt HER way was the proper way, and since she was placed in command of you all, she must be VERY knowledgable." Wonderful. A pain-in-the-ass mini-watcher who looked up to Isabella. Fantastic.
"Yeah, well. Not all of us think that the sun shines out of the Drill Sargents ass," Kayla replied with a pout, vaulting off the beam and landing on her feet. She cracked her knuckles and then rolled her wrist, trying to loosen the joint.
Jodi 'hrmmph'ed and... oh my god. She took out a little mini notepad and wrote something down. PLEASE tell me she isn't making a list of things to complain to Isabella about?
"You've GOT to be kidding me," Kayla grumbled, shaking her head in utter disbelief. "What the Hell are you writing, anyway?" She grabbed the notepad, a little too quick for the younger girl.
"HEY!" Jodi squealed, hilariously jumping up and trying (unsuccessfully) to snatch it back from the slayer. "That's my Slayer Inconsistancy Training Log!"
The page she had it opened to is her own little hilarious notes on Kayla: "Ms. Barnes is a REALLY intimidating one. She's very very pretty but has alllll these tattoos and kinda this 'ZOMG she could kick my butt' kinda vibe. But she's acting way too distracted and is CLEARLY not listening to the form that she's being taught! Do ANY of these girls respect authority??? AHHHH!"
"You CAN'T be serious," Kayla muttered, actually clenching her jaw in frustration and taking a threatening step toward the girl.
"Kayla," a voice called from the open doorway in a stern voice, warningly. Isabella? Did NOT look amused. She crossed her arms under her breasts and raised an eyebrow at the Slayer.
"Come ON. How is HER constantly critisizing and making notes PRODUCTIVE? It's DISTRACTING." And upsetting obviously, but that didn't need to be said, clearly.
"Hey!" Jodi said with a pout, TRYYYYING to sound mature here. "I'm just taking notes, so that I can show them to you all and hopefully help you come up with better ways to motivate the girls and get them to actually LISTEN to you!"
Kayla looked ready to break something at that point. Possibly Jodi.
"Kayla," Isabella repeated, voice stern. "Give her the book back. Then do twenty laps through the building." When Kayla looked about to protest, she added: "I wouldn't want to look at this as a set-back, would you?" She all but threatened. "Apologize. She's just trying to help."
Kayla paused and clenched her jaw, but soon let out a long, stabilizing breath and nodding, handing the book back to Jodi. She looked Jodi in the eyes and genuinely said: "I'm sorry." The last thing that she wanted was to lose her temper... and for that to not only reflect bad on her, but also Gabriel. She'd been doing SO well, lately...
Jodi merely gave a little nod to Kayla, hilariously not even looking mad. She was trying SO hard to be all professional and Uber-Watcher... She wasn't TRYING to be an obnoxious tattletale... she was just trying to impress the others. "Thank you, Ms. Delallo. If it helps, I really don't think Kayla would have hit me."
Isabella barked out Kayla's name again an arched an eyebrow, to which Kayla said 'Yes, Ms. Delallo' and started off at a jog, leaving the room. "Still. I wouldn't advise getting in her way. Or any of the others. I appreciate that you take notes, but I would suggest doing it in a way that... doesn't lead to confrontations like that."
"Don't worry, ma'am." Jodi said with an ADORABLE smile, rocking on her heels a few times as she clutched her notebook. "I'm gonna go check on..." she looked at the notebook again, "Faith Lehane next. Mr. Giles' slayer? If HE'S training her, she's got to be, well... almost PERFECT! Nothing to pick at THERE!" Oh, Jodi... how little we know...
Isabella's eyes just widened then, hilariously enough. "Well, let me know how that goes, then. And do take what I said into consideration next time, hrmh? Not everyone likes to be scrutinized so closely..." Well, Jodi was likely gonna find that out soon enough, wasn't she?
