Last Hurrah
Who: Gabriel and Kayla
Where: The Hyperion, then a Ramen Shop
When: Monday, January 24
Gabriel and Kayla were currently finishing up one of their late night training sessions in the Hyperion, with them sparing and Kayla making the occasional jab at Gabriel's age. "I don't know why I enjoy doing it so much..." She admitted with a cheeky smirk as she danced out of his reach, dressed in gray sweatpants and a light blue tank-top.
Wearing a pair of blue gym shorts a a white wife-beater, he moved forward and sent a left jab her way. "I'm sure you just like beating up on me," he joked to her.
"Oh yeah, that must be it..." Kayla giggled with a roll of her eyes, dodging the jab easily enough and quickly throwing one of her own to keep him on his toes.
He managed to doge her jab, but just barely. She still had supernatural speed on him, no matter how much training he had.
"You wanna call it a night? You seem a little distracted and I don't want you to break anything," she teased lightly, admittedly in stellar mood right now, which was all too obvious by her smile.
He rolled his eyes. "I *do* think that it's time for us to call it a night," he said, heading over to the mini fridge in the room and grabbed two water bottles and tossing her one of them. "Not because of what you said, though."
"No?" She asked with an arched eyebrow as she caught the bottle easily, uncapped it and took a sip. Mm, refreshing. After a minute, she grabbed a towel and dabbed her neck dry, watching him curiously.
He took a long sip of his water then started to towel some sweat off of him as well. "I'm fine," he said to her with a slight smile. "You have someone beating your ass on a daily basis and still try to keep up the quips all the time," he joked.
"Alright, I understand," she replied teasingly. She really did enjoy the playful banter that they had going while they were at 'work'. It made it … seem less like work, honestly. "I think that I'm getting better at all of this."
He slapped her on the ass playfully as he walked by her. "You really are doing quite well now," he told her. He was quite proud of her and the progress that she was making.
"Oi!" She said playfully to the ass-slap, scowling at him cutely as he passed. "And I think that's in thanks, in most part, to you," she added.
"Maybe but you've also been putting forth a lot of the effort as well," Gabriel pointed out to her. "So, ready to get something to eat?"
"Sure," she replied with a soft smile. "Believe it or not, I've worked up an appetite." It was interesting that, little than six months ago, she didn't even have the will to eat and now she did. It was as if she'd been revived somehow. "Where'd you wanna go?"
When she asked where he wanted to go, he simply shrugged. "That would be up to you, my dear," he told her. Being with her had made him come alive as well, it seemed. Or at least made him develop a bit of personality.
Well, he was a bit of a fuddy-duddy without a personality, wasn't he? Kayla was glad that the Wizard of Oz was able to help... and okay, maybe she was in a silly mood. Shush. "I feel like ramen... or HAVING ramen," she corrected herself with a giggle. "How does that sound?"
"So, you feel limp and noodley?" he joked. What? He couldn't resist that set up. "Alright, Ramen it is. Just let me get dressed first."
She looked down at her outfit and sighed. "Suppose I should do that too, huh?" She rolled her eyes and pulled her shirt over her head, before looking through the sports bag that she'd brought with her for a suitable replacement.
"Up to you," he said simply to her, although she had already started rifling through her stuff. He pulled his sweaty shirt over his head and tossed it aside before going through his own gym bag.
She looked over to him and smirked faintly, "I can't believe that I almost forgot how good you look all sweaty and half-naked. Bad Kayla, bad."
"I'm not sure how you can forget such a thing," he teased her, reaching into his gym bag for his shirt. "You look rather delicious yourself, but I never forget that."
"You're a sweetheart," she replied, smiling genuinely as sprayed anti-perspirant across her chest, before tossing on a fresh, crisp white V-neck shirt, and changing out of her sweatpants into a pair of tight-fitting jeans, slipping into different shoes as well. "Think you can stomach sake, as well, or'm I pushing my luck?"
He laughed when she mentioned sake, finally digging out the button up shirt and jeans that he wanted. "I think I can handle that," he said to her.
"Good," she replied, just watching him now. "I think we've earned being a little silly, at least for one night. Don't you?"
"Most definitely," he said as he slipped into his clothes. "You just want to hear me talk like a cockney or something, don't you?" he asked jokingly.
"It would definitely be one of the highlights of the evening..." Kayla giggled. She found his REAL accent utterly adorable and funny as hell, honestly.
He made a face at her as he finished getting dressed and putting some deodorant on to make sure that he didn't stink up the joint. "Glad that I amuse you," he said playfully to her in a deadpan voice. "Are you ready?"
"Yupyup. Just waitin' on you," she replied, although this time she didn't tease him about being slow or frail. She thought about it, though. She smiled awkwardly and started to lead the way out.
After packing up his bag, he followed her the way out. "So, do you know of a ramen place that we can go to?" he asked. He was sure he could find one if she didn't, but it would make things much easier if she did.
She didn't bother packing up her things. ... Since she still lived in the Hyperion, she figured she'd just pick it all up before heading upstairs when she got back later. She really should find a place for herself, but for some reason, she genuinely liked staying there. "There's one a couple of blocks down. I'm sure we could walk, if you want."
He somewhat wished that she would stay with him, but understood why she needed her independence as well. "I'm fine with walking," he said to her with a slight smile. "Let's head that way then."
She smiled faintly and led the way, glancing at him every so often curiously as they walked. She wanted to say something to him, to strike up SOME kind of conversation, but worried that if she did, it would veer in a direction that she wasn't comfortable with. Sadly. So, she said something that had no real value. "I've been thinking of taking up Parkour. I think it looks interesting."
"Parkour?" he asked as they walked along. "Looking for a little adrenaline rush?" he asked simply. To his understanding, it was something that had to do with freestyle running.
"Well, I figure it'd be useful as well. With... work," she smirked faintly, figuring that he'd get that. "Plus, sometimes I have a little excess energy... at least lately, that I have trouble burning off."
He nodded. "It may actually be useful with...work sometimes," he told her. "I can help you with burning off some of your energy, with training and with...other ways." He smirked at the last part of his statement. OK, he now had something of a dirty mind, but it was her fault.
Finally at the restaurant, she walked in and found themselves a table, taking to the waitress politely and ordering them each a drink. Once she was off, Kayla continued with the conversation: "Other ways, Gabriel?" She asked with a cheeky grin. "Why, whatever do you mean?"
He chuckled when she asked what he meant. "I'm sure that you can put that together on your own. You're a smart girl," he said to her.
"I'm suddenly feeling very energetic," she told him with a cheeky little smirk. The waitress reappeared with their sake and asked to take their orders, and of course, Kayla ordered the ramen.
He laughed. "I bet," he said to her. He decided to order something similar to Kayla, since he wasn't as familiar with ramen as she seemed to be Once the waitress left, he poured them each a small shot of sake.
"The only thing that really gets to me with sake is the smell," Kayla admitted with a wrinkle of her nose before downing the shot in one quick go. As for why she knew about Japanese culture, Kayla studied the language in high school and traveled across Japan for six weeks before college.
"It doesn't bother me too much," he said to her and took his shot. Lucky for him that his sense of smell wasn't extra sensitive, at least.
"I envy that. ... Of course, I still have a better alcohol tolerance than you do," she replied, poking her pierced tongue out at him.
He chuckled. "Not all of us can have a slayer constitution," he pointed out. "Happy to at least try and keep up with you, though." Even if his liver would hate him in the morning.
She really WAS just a terrible influence, wasn't she? She grinned and poured them each another shot. "Alright. I'm gonna make you SLUR."
He laughed, picking up the glass after she poured the shot, tipping it back into his mouth. "I believe tha's a dare," he said, not realizing his natural accent was starting to already bleed through.
