Getting to Know People Better
Who: Brandie, Judas, and Julian
Where: Julian's Home
When: Monday Afternoon, 1/31
Brandie walked up to Julian's home a little while after school on Monday. She always felt weird going anywhere in her family's limo, so today she'd had the driver drop her off about a block away and walked the rest of the way to Julian's home. When she got up there, she knocked on the door.
After a few moments, Julian's father, Judas, opened the door, looking down at the girl with his usual menacing glare. However... this time? He actually forced a smile for her. Was he warming up to her? Well... as much as he could. He was trying, ok? He'd been looking at a large photo album when the knock came, and set it aside to get the door. "Hello, Brandie... you're here to see Julian, I assume?"
Honestly, he was kind of terrifying when he smiled. Still, she appreciated the effort behind it. "Yes, sir," she said, smiling up at him. "Is he home?" Not that she was sure where else he'd go or anything like that.
"He's in his room. Brandie..." He sighed, lowering his voice a little. "Before you go... do you mind if I have speak with you? For... just a few moments?"
"Sure," she said, walking inside. "Is everything OK?" she asked him. He had never really talked to her, after all, so this was kind of strange.
"It is..." He replied, sitting down on the recliner and motioning toward the couch for her to sit. "I just... wanted to make sure there are no misunderstandings here." He said as he reached for that photo album, looking at it longingly for a moment before closing it and looking back to Brandie.
Brandie sat down on the sofa that he indicated. "Misunderstandings?" she asked him. She wasn't quite sure what he was talking about, after all.
"I know it can appear as if... I don't want you to be with my son." He admitted, sighing. "That's not the case at all. I had fears of what could happen to him. Fears I know he's shared with you. And I didn't want to see YOU get hurt. Or anyone he allowed himself to grow close to." This, funny enough, was probably the most talking the man had done in years. "I know how much losing someone you care about can... destroy you. And I don't wish that pain on you OR my son."
"It did kind of appear that way at first," Brandie admitted. Might as well be honest, right? "He did tell me about...everything. While kinda strange, it's actually almost...well, not normal, but not the craziest thing I've ever heard, either." This was a girl who time traveled, after all. "And that sounds completely ridiculous when I say it out loud. I just know that I wouldn't do anything to hurt Julian. I swear that on everything that I am."
"I know you wouldn't Brandie. That's why I'm talking to you like this." He sighed, looking at that album again, in his hands. "I just... I wonder sometimes if it's better to never get attached, than to feel the pain of being inevitably separated."
"Personally, I don't think so," Brandie admitted to him. "Losing people can be painful." She couldn't help but think of the original version of her parents when thinking about that. "It's kind of cliche, but it's better to have loved and lost than never loved at all? I'd rather know that I can experience the feelings that I'm having for Julian and possibly lose him than never experience them at all."
"You're a wise girl, Brandie. Possibly... a far more wise person than I." Because he truthfully wished that he could do anything to rid himself of the pain he still felt. "Now... Julian's waiting for you. So... go to him. With my blessing."
"Thanks," she said to him with a smile. "Guess I'll head upstairs now," she told him, standing up and heading toward the stairs, walking up them and knocking on Julian's door when she got to it.
Meanwhile, Julian had no idea Brandie had even arrived. The boy had finished his homework, and was now actually watching TV. Again... in terms of being surprising? He was watching... ESPN? Seriously? Anyway, he turned back toward the door, figuring it was Judas. "C'mon in, Dad..."
Well wasn't that amusing? Brandie opened the door and peeked inside. "Not exactly your dad here," she said to him with a smile. "Can I come in?"
"Brandie!" He blinked, scrambling to get to his feet, to properly greet her. He took her into his arms, sweetly hugging the younger girl. "How are you, sweetheart?"
She gave him a hug back. "Doing good, actually." Actually doing great since her talk with his father, but she wasn't sure if she would mention that or not, at least not right away. "How are you doing?"
"I'm ok. Just... trying to relax, and not worry about stuff. How about you?" He asked, feeling his mood improving greatly just having her there.
"Doing good, actually," she said to him, walking over and sitting down on his bed. "Um...your dad and I had a little talk downstairs. And he smiled at me, which was kind of weird."
"He's trying." Julian said, smiling sadly. "That's... what I've been worried about, really. He's been having a rough time the last few weeks. And I'm afraid he's gonna fall apart one day."
"What's been going on in the past few weeks?" she asked. She noticed that he had been flipping through a photo album downstairs. Maybe someone special had been in it?
"He's... he's been really lonely. Missing my mom. He holds it all in, and I get scared he's gonna make himself sick or something." Julian never told this stuff to anyone... but hell, if he couldn't tell Brandie, who COULD he tell?
She nodded. She figured that maybe his mother may have died around this time of year. "I'm sure he'll be OK," she said, reaching over and taking his hand, giving it a squeeze. "You just gotta have faith."
Well, while his mun would likely make a joke about how badly he wanted to 'have' Faith, we'll let that go for now. "Thanks, honey. I... barely even remember my mom. But... Dad's just so lonely, all he does is sit down there and look at her pictures. I wish I could get him to go out, to try to meet people... but I guess he doesn't exactly seem like the kind of guy you could picture being... social."
Brandie made a slight face and shook her head. "Not really the type to go to a club or a mixer of any kind," she said with a shake of her head. "Still, there's got to be some way that he can meet someone." Some way or another.
"I'm SO in love with you, Brandie... I'm glad he's finally accepting this. Because..." He closed his eyes, gulping a little. "My life was so empty, so... dark... before you came into it."
She nodded, scooting closer to him on the bed. "I'm glad that he's accepting us, too," she said. "Your life doesn't have to be empty anymore," she told him. "I'm here now."
"I just hope your dad comes around eventually too." He smirked, "And by 'comes around', I mean, 'I hope he gets to where I don't have to worry about being killed'. Because I still feel like he wants me dead."
She sighed and rolled her eyes. "He wouldn't ACTUALLY do that," she said to him. "I mean, he might threaten or whatever, but he's just being a big dork." If only she had met one of his enforcers, right? "Don't worry about him. Really."
"I know... and your mom insists he'll come around, that he just worries about you..." He smiled brightly then, "And seriously? Your mom is the COOLEST."
Brandie laughed. "Yeah, that's what she tells me, too," she said to him. "I think she also finds it funny that he's getting all paternal and stuff." Which, he had grown into anyway, but it seemed that he had it in him even now. "My mom is pretty cool, actually." And so...liberal with her children.
"You know..." He blushed a little, TRYING to be all smooth. "I'm all done with my homework, so... I don't really have anything I NEED to be doing..."
She couldn't help but giggle a little when he said that. "Well, if you're not busy, I can hang out for a little while more," she teased.
"I'm thinking maybe we could get some studying in. Maybe...." he grinned, those dark eyes making him look more sexual than he was probably going for, "we could do some work for Sex Ed?"
They actually really did, but Brandie loved it. "I think we can get that in," she said, scooting closer to him and tilting her head up, kissing him softly.
