Frenemies
Who: McKenna and Payton
Where: Regan High Cafeteria
When: Tuesday, January 18
"I personally think they should kick Marty Haggerty off the football team and replace him with a guy who won't be intimidated by the likes of Harley Bothwell." McKenna offered her opinion when she reached the table Payton was seated at and dropped her sack lunch and books down on the table before the blond seated herself. It had gotten all around school what had happened the previous day to Marty giving McKenna a reason now to find fault with the football player. The blond usually had no problem finding faults or wrongs with those of her peers, that was with the exception of the one or two whom she was actually friends with.
"Unfortunately, while Marty is more of a girl than I am, he's the only guy on the team that actually knows how to play," Payton replied, narrowing her eyes at McKenna. Sadly, as much as Payton wanted her as far away as possible, she also recognized that the girl was attractive... and popular enough, so she'd play nice. Until McKenna stepped out of line, at least. She brought her can of diet coke to her lips and took a sip from the straw. "What I'm more interested in is why she went after him in the first place. Unless he was being his regular douche-y self. I may have had to firmly tell him once or twice to back off, and by 'firmly' I mean 'introduced me knee to his crotch'." She smiled, almost menacingly, one might say.
"Now that is a sight I would pay dearly to see." McKenna smiled holding back a chuckle as she unpacked her lunch. Marty Haggerty might be an alright football player, but in McKenna's view the guy was an idiot, and one who allowed himself to be intimidated by the likes of one Harley Bothwell.
Payton nodded to that, trying to relax back into her seat as she picked up her ham, cheese and tomato sandwich and took a bite. The last thing that she wanted to do was let anyone thing that she was against this... intrusion. Which, yes... she was, but again, she'd play nice for now. "Give it time, McKenna, Marty is nothing if not a creature of habit," she commented lightly, looking to her fellow cheerleader's for confirmation, who were quick to nod with agreement.
McKenna acknowledged that with a nod taking a bite of her apple which she chose to chew slowly. The blond then let her eyes wander the lunchroom for any glimpse of Sandra, who she usually lunched with, and more often then not came wandering in late. "He's not smart enough to be anything but." The blond added after she swallowed down that little bit of apple looking back to Payton.
"Indeed," Payton agreed, taking another sip of her diet coke. She briefly thought about leaping across the table to strangle the other girl, but it quickly departed her mind. Luckily, she never acted on impulse. She was... always cautious and careful. "What graces us with your presence today, McKenna?"
"I need an excuse to sit with a friend?" McKenna responded coolly to the other girl. Alright so they weren't friends friends, but McKenna considered Payton to be close enough to one, especially without her usual lunch-mates around, to sit with the girl and vent her thoughts to.
"Not at all. It's just that you don't often grace us with your presence," Payton replied. Clearly, she was on her best behavior, hm? She really didn't like the girl sitting across from her... but school politics dictated that she at least tried to get along with her.
"Yeah," McKenna couldn't outright deny that statement as it was true, "guess I should change that, huh." The blond smiled all friendly like though she really had no intention of changing her normal routine just to accommodate Payton and treat her like a real friend.
