Maybe Third Time's a Charm?
Who: Abbi and Joshua
Where: Avarice
When: Saturday Night, 1/15
Oh. My. GOD. Abbi sat there, at the bar at Avarice, wondering who decided it would be funny to break out the hair metal, as of all groups, STRYPER started blaring out. Oh god... like hair rock wasn't bad enough... but... RELIGIOUS hair rock? Gawd. Abbi just snickered, realizing this had to be Baily being funny. "To Hell With The Devil. Jeez Christ, Baily..." She mumbled to herself, wearing a black miniskirt, with red pumps and a black cami, red and black ribbon tied through her hair, which she wore down and draped over her shoulders.
Of course, Baily might be in the mood to torture everyone, considering a call from Vegas she got recently...but that wasn't what this scene was about. This scene was about the deliciously hunky man who walked through the door and sat down at the bar. The day for Joshua had been a pretty good, even one. He sat down and ordered a drink, then realized what was playing. "Wow...either the DJ has a sick sense of humor or she's ready to inflict pain," he said over the musical taste.
"My guess? A liiiiiittle bit of both." Yeah, Abbi was aware of the goings-on as well. She wouldn't be half-surprised if Baily hated HER now, just by proxy. Abbi started to give a slightly nervous laugh about that, before turning and seeing just WHO had said that. Holy crap. "I... um... hi. Having, um... having a good night?" Oh, Jesus, Abbi... your brain went THAT empty?
Baily didn't even hate Pat. She was just angry in general. But whatever. When Abbi asked if Joshua was having a good night, he gave her a slight grin. "Hopefully this doesn't sound like a line, but it just got a little better for sure."
"Yeah... I... I kinda know what you mean." The stunning blonde gave an entirely too-innocent blush, which was just adorable. "I'm Abbi."
Well, unlike SOME people, Joshua at least respected innocence, not saw it as a challenge. "I'm Joshua," he said, offering her his hand to shake. "Pleasure to meet you."
She gave him her hand, giving that dazzling smile that pretty much made every boy at school total mush. "Suddenly I'm sort of glad I came here tonight. I almost just stayed home and studied..."
"Well, I'm glad you came out tonight, too," he told her. "Although you probably should study, just during the day when it doesn't interfere with your going out time." He groaned. "And now I sound like my old man."
"Nah. At least I'm almost done. I'll be graduating in the spring from Reagan High." Ut-oh... now the question he HAD to be asking: was the girl even legal?
It was in the back of his mind, but this was just innocent flirting at the moment. If he wanted to actually ask her out, then he'd bring up the age deal. "Well, congratulations are in order," he said to her.
"Thank you. It's... been a rough year for me. It's hard to believe I've even been able to CONCENTRATE on my schooolwork. Luckily it's almost over." She really WAS mature for her age, and polite to a fault.
"Well, I'm sorry that it's been such a bad year for you, but now it's a new one. New year, new starts, right?" Plus, the school year was almost over, so she would be basically starting a new life.
"Exactly! I'm not gonna let anything keep me down. Life's too short, you know?" See... sometimes? Abbi was so positive her own MUN wanted to smack her.
Joshua was a pretty positive person as well, so she wasn't in bad company to be that way. "You shouldn't let anything keep you down, Abbi," he said to her. "You're way too nice and pretty for that."
"Thank you." She knew damn well she was pretty, so she wasn't going to argue it... but she was too polite to want to sound cocky by agreeing. So she just thanked him. "Trust me when I say... you're not exactly hard on the eyes either."
"Thanks," he said right back to her. Of course, with how his dating life seemed to peter our more often than not lately (usually getting left for girls, it seemed),it was easy to forget that.
"You, um... here with anyone?" She asked, not exactly a master of the fine art of flirting.
He shook his head, realizing what she was asking. "I *was* with someone, but I think she got more interested in a coworker or something." Man, he really *did* have bad luck with women lately. "Can I ask how old you are, since you're still in high school?"
"18. And if you don't mind me saying so? Any woman who could lose interest in YOU must be a bit insane. Seriously." And she clearly meant it, as honestly? She'd barely GLANCED at anything other than him since he spoke to her.
"Well...I keep getting left for other girls...," he admitted with a slight blush. "So...while it's kinda me...it's really about something that I can't quite be." He shrugged. "They both broke it off before it got *too* serious, which is probably a good thing, though."
"My friend Cynthia joked about that in school. She said we need to co-author a children's book called "Everybody's Gay But Me"." Abbi giggled, shaking her head.
He couldn't help but laugh at that. "Well...it IS LA, so it's not too shocking...I just keep picking the ones who are." It really didn't bother him too bad, but he wished to have better luck the third time around.
"Just so you know... I don't like girls. At all." She grinned, blushing a little. "Just, you know... a little tidbit about me. Not trying to insinuate anything..."
He grinned. OK, he wasn't dense. He could tell what was going on. "Would you like to meet for dinner some night?" he asked her. "You know, on a night that you don't have to study or anything?" he teased lightly.
"Oh, hush you." She giggled, blushing again. "I'd love to. Really... I'm really a very boring person, but I'd love to go out."
"I get the feeling that you're being humble when you say that," he said to her playfully. "What night is good for you next week then?"
"Friday would be best..." She said with a sigh. "I have school and practice all week, plus homework and games."
"Practice? You into sports as well?" he asked her. Dating an athlete was kind of hot, actually. Well, starting to date, anyway.
"Well, I'm a cheerleader. So... I consider myself an athlete, but that's about it." She actually took her cheerleading seriously. Like... hilariously so.
Well, this definitely just got hot. Awesome. "Cheerleaders are athletes, and I'm not saying that just because I want to date you," Joshua said. "My little sister is a cheerleader in Georgia, too."
"Really?" Abbi asked, a little excited there. "Is she good? I'd be glad to give her tips sometime..."
"She was good when I went and saw her competition last year," Joshua said. "She could do all the flips and stuff, anyway." He wasn't terribly sure how to judge it, he had to admit.
"That's great... If she ever needs any advice, or anything, you can always have her call me." And then, because yes, THAT was when it hit her, she wrote her number on a napkin... sigh... and dotted the 'i' in her name with a heart.
He nodded, taking the napkin from her and folding it up, slipping it into his pocket. "I'll make sure to let her know, actually," he said to her with a grin.
"So.... Friday, then? Before I start getting my hopes up?" Hey... he was honest with HER, right? "I... haven't had much luck either."
"Yes, Friday," he said to her. "Where can I pick you up at?"
"Well..." She blushed, furiously there. "I don't... really HAVE a 'place' right now. I'm kinda staying at the Marriot a few streets away from here for right now." Thank GOD Pat was willing to give her the money to stay there as long as she needed.
He nodded. He wasn't sure WHY she'd be staying in a hotel, but didn't figure it was his place to ask. Maybe once he got to know her better. "Then I'll pick you up at the Marriot at seven?" he asked.
"Yes. Definitely." She grinned, excitedly. "In fact... I'm looking VERY forward to it."
