Despite the Worst, Trying to Stay Optimistic
Who: Giles/Delilah
Where: Delilah's Apartment
When: 1/14, Friday Evening
Delilah had let Tara and Bastian go home a little early tonight. Business was slow (cold air seemed to utterly terrify Californians and caused them to stay in), so she figured that she could take care of any clients who might have come in for the next and last hour of business for the day. Only two people showed at all, but one put in a large and expensive order, so she was happy with the days take. After closing up, she called Giles and asked him to meet her over at her home. They usually met up at Ashes to Ashes, but Delilah figured that tonight he should spend time with her in her home. Besides, she got all the paperwork taken care of already, so why stay? When she got home, she started to boil some water for tea and waited for him to arrive.
Let's be real honest. Giles? Didn't exactly have a sparkling social life. So when the woman he was semi(?)dating invited him over? Yeah, he was there like Oprah at an all you can eat buffet. Knocking at her door, he adjusted his tie, not, you know... looking at ALL ridiculous in his typical tweed suit.
Delilah was relieved when she heard a knock at the door. Turning the kettle down so that it didn't boil over, she ran to the door and, after checking through the peep hole, opened the door for him. She smiled up at him as she stepped aside for him to enter. "Hello," she said.
Still... getting the hang of this again, he leaned in quickly, placing a little kiss on her lips before entering, smiling as he smelled the familiar scent of the tea they frequently drank together. "You do know how to make me feel welcome here, I must say..."
She chuckled slightly when he said that she knew how to make him feel welcome. "I try," she said with a hint of a smile on her face. She headed back to the kitchen to have a seat. "Make yourself at home," she said to him.
"Thank you, dear..." He said, taking a look around as he sat. "I'm going to guess your training is going well... I heard Faith saying she hasn't seen Cynthia trip on her own feet more than twice in the last two weeks."
She laughed from the kitchen, coming out a few moments later with tea and accessories. "Well, she hasn't nearly impaled me with a sword in about a month, so I'd say that things are going well. How are you and Faith doing?" She meant that on a personal level as well as a training one. She knew things had been tense for a good long while between them.
"I think things are finally... back where they should be." He said, meaning that in both ways. "She's still a little more aggressive than I'd like, and a tad reckless... but she's still learning quite well. As for the other things..." He sighed. "Having Candice around still concerns me, as the girl seems a bit... mad still. But she appears to be genuinely trying, and so far, Hope has had nothing but good things to say about her progress."
She nodded. "As long as Candi is trying, it counts for a lot. Maybe she should see some sort of shrink?" she suggested. She poured them both a cup of tea.
"Yes. I've... suggested that to Faith. The suggestion went over about as well as asking her if she would mind dressing a bit more conservatively." Well now. Was that Giles cracking wise? Really?
"Hmm...maybe have Hope bring it up to Candi directly then?" Delilah was about to say 'couldn't hurt' but that was a lie if Candi took the suggestion too badly. "There's something that's come up recently that...I'm not terribly sure how to handle." God, on a date and these two talk shop. Ugh.
"I'm... not entirely sure I like the sound of that." Giles muttered, brows raising a little as he removed his glasses, turning to give her his full attention.
"A girl came into the shop a few days ago. She was complaining of some dreams and wanted to see if someone had put a hex on her. I did a spell to see if anyone had done so, and they hadn't, but I got something else." Delilah frowned. "I think this girl may have been a vampire in a past life. A vampire who passed somewhat recently, if who else I saw in it was any indication."
"So..." Giles blinked a little, processing this. "We're dealing with a human girl, who may have been a vampire in a past life... how... how would this even WORK?"
"Well, if my theory is correct..." Uh oh. Going into full lecture mode now. "I think she may have originally inherited the girl's soul when she was turned. When the vampire passed, though...it may have passed something to her as well. Some connection or life force or something. I'm not terribly sure." She paused. "This vampire was killed by Ashton Kowalski, Rupert. And not by a simple stake, either. What I saw was...brutal." She shuddered.
"....oh dear." He replied simply, blinking, as he knew that Ash.... walked a fine line to BEGIN with. "Tell me anything you know, Delilah... we must determined if this is something we can intervene in. Because if Ash finds out about this... it could be bad."
"The girl is younger than him and his girlfriend, plus, I get the feeling if this girl ever saw Ash, he might be the least of our worries." Delilah got up and pulled a book off her bookshelf that she had set aside. It was a watcher's diary from the seventeen hundreds. "There's a bigger issue as well." She opened the book to a page where a Watcher had sketched his Slayer in 1750s France. "The girl and the vampire? Could be twins for this girl." An inscription under the drawing read 'Michele Odette D'Estang, age 16' in French. "His slayer disappeared not long after she was called. I think she may be the vampire in question."
"Call Wesley in Vegas... have him go through HIS records while we do ours, see if he can find any info on this girl OR the vampire. I feel we... might need to be thoroughly prepared.
She nodded, leaning against him and setting the book aside for the time being. "If it's not one thing, it's another," she said with a slight sigh.
"Well." He said, trying to at least lighten things a little. "Nobody ever said trying to date me would be boring or uneventful..."
She snorted. "I'm the one who can electrocute someone if I have a bad day, remember? I think you're the one who should be worried, unless you're into getting struck by lightening."
Oh god... right then? Giles... GILES!... decided to throw in one of the lines he'd heard Faith and the others use... "I... probably shouldn't find that nearly as hot as I do, hm?"
Delilah just started laughing. "Something tells me you've been hanging around Faith a tad too much," she said, looking up at him and smiling.
"That... is a very real possibility." He admitted, chuckling as he shook his head.
