A Quiet New Years Who: Mac and Henry Where: The Beach House When: New Years Eve
Mac was glad neither Brayden nor Meredith had tried to be overly persuasive in trying to get her to go out with them for a bit that New Years Eve as big parties weren't exactly her scene. She'd rather remain at the beach house and ring the new year in a little more quietly, and was glad Henry wasn't the out going type her house-mates were. Having a boyfriend was nice. Having one with a similar personality to her own was even better in Mac's eyes as it tended to have them on the same page more often then not. Celebrating the incoming year a bit more sedately then most people intended to just seemed to suit the two teens quite well. The evening had started off nicely with Henry arriving around 8:30 and the two teens then enjoying a movie with popcorn and soda. When it started nearing the end of the year the two mutually decided to take a walk on the beach to hopefully catch the fireworks that would light up the nights sky once it hit midnight.
Henry was admittedly a little nervous about spending time alone with Mac at her own home. His parents had been fine with it (and 'highly encouraged' that he was spending time with a girl, as desperately sad as that sounded), but he was the one feeling antsy about it. While Mac was every bit as shy as he was, he didn't know if 'stuff' was expected from him or not. So far, things had been normal between them like they usually were. They had spent most of the evening watching a movie. Now they were walking along the beach, which was so romantic that it had been in many a movie. He wanted to at least try and kiss her tonight, because...well, he wanted to, but he hoped and prayed he didn't screw that up. He paused for a second and looked out at the ocean. "It's beautiful out here," he said to her with a slight smile.
"One of the reasons I like living here." Mac said pausing in step when Henry did to give a brief glance out into the ocean. "I could stand out here on the beach and look out into the endless ocean for hours." Mac reflected pulling her gaze away from the water to look over at her boyfriend with a soft smile.
His own smile got a bit bigger when she looked back at him. He couldn't help it. She always made him smile. "So...are the fireworks going to start at midnight, or before?" he asked.
"I think at the stroke of midnight they're suppose to be set off." Mac told him. At least that had been what she had heard. This was the first time in three years that she'd be celebrating the arrival of the new year with someone, and Mac was glad it was Henry, which had the girl smiling a little bit softer and her eyes seeming to shine as her gaze lingered a bit on the boy. Her world had turned around dramatically, and for the better, since Mac escaped from the clutches of Wolf, Ram and Hart, and she was quite looking forward to the upcoming year.
He nodded when she said that they were supposed to go off at midnight. "Sounds like that would make sense," he said with a slight laugh, looking back out at the ocean again. He couldn't imagine seeing that view when he woke up every single day. It had to be awe inspiring to wake up to. "You're not cold or anything, are you?" he asked. The night was a little bit chilly.
She glanced over to the boy, then, with a soft smile. "Maybe just a little." Mac really hadn't thought about the slight chill in the air until Henry brought it up, and her instinctive reaction was to respond verbally to the boy while rubbing her hands along her arms to throw off the chill they now felt.
Henry pulled off his jacket and slid it onto her shoulder, leaving it to her if she wanted to put her arms through the sleeves or not. "Any better?" he asked her with a hopeful smile.
"Better." Mac replied with a soft smile given to the boy as she tugged the jacket a little bit tighter around her to keep the chill at bay. It warmed her just enough fitted around her shoulders that Mac didn't attempt to slide her arms in through the sleeves. "Thank you." She added a bit shyly letting her gaze wander out toward the water once more.
"You're welcome," he said back to her. He was glad that he had thought to wear long sleeves underneath his jacket. He could feel the slight chill in the air now, but it didn't really bother him. Besides, he was out walking on a beach with his girlfriend. Something as silly as weather wasn't going to bother him right now. He looked up as the first firework went off over the ocean, being set off from a small boat out there.
"Happy New Year." Mac smiling when she glanced back to Henry after sighting the first of the fireworks being set off over the water to signify the start of the new year. This was definitely the better way to celebrate in the new year. Here with just her boyfriend on the beach watching the display of fireworks rather then in some loud club overcrowded with people, most of which would probably have had too much to drink by now.
"Happy New Year," Henry said back to her with a smile. After taking a deep breath, he decided to try and be brave, he leaned forward and gently brushed his lips against hers, in an effort to share a New Year's kiss.
Though it was a bit unexpected, the kiss wasn't unwelcome. Mac felt her eyes flutter closed when Henry's lips brushed gently against her own, and though she didn't move a step, Mac reciprocated the kiss with her lips moving slightly against her boyfriend's. It was a nice feeling to be kissed by someone she liked, and Mac was glad Henry was the person she was experiencing her first kiss with.
When she didn't pull away, Henry couldn't help but grin. He was relieved that she didn't jerk away and slap him or anything. After a short kiss, he pulled away, still smiling.
When he drew back, Mac smiled shyly with her eyes dipping to the sand at her feet. "That was nice." The teen found herself whispering out as she dared to look back up at Henry with the same shyness she had looked away with. And though she really didn't have anything to compare it to, Mac was finding their first shared kiss more than just nice.
"It was," Henry agreed. He wasn't sure how to phrase it, really, without sounding like a goof, but it was much more than nice. He gave her a smile as well before looking out at the ocean again.
Mac took a step to stand beside the boy and gazed out at the ocean once more. After the passing of a couple seconds Mac's hand slowly found it's way into Henry's. It felt nice there and had the girl smiling softly as she continued to watch the waves roll onto the sand and then pull back into the ocean.
When she took his hand, he gave hers a squeeze as they two of them continued to look out at the ocean.
